And the reason she can jump is that she knows the Doctor will catch her. Her absolute trust that he will be there, he will catch her when she falls, is what enables her to prove there’s always a way out.
We’ve seen far too many fictional women made weaker by their relationships. Not River. Not ever. She gains strength from her unconditional love and trust.

"Yeah, sorry…" she muttered, watching Amy throw away the pot. She coughed a bit as the smell she’d been blocking out finally reached her. "I was… Well, I was trying to make fudge. ‘S my friend Sara’s birthday this weekend and she just loves chocolate so I thought I’d make some." She smiled sheepishly. "Which I realize now was a dreadful idea."
"Its alright, its just a pot, not like we can't get another." she added with a bot of a shrug of her shoulders. Going back to the sink to wash her hands. "Fudge, isn't it easier to get some at the shop? Or maybe a nice cake would have been best." Amy looked around, surveying the damage a moment before grabbing a couple of sponges and tossing on back to Sammy. "Why don't you get that mark over there and I'll dredge up a ladder to get the marks on the roof, which I will assume were placed there by accident."
"Hello, Mother." she smile relief filling her mind.
"I just wanted to see you, can you tell me when you last saw me?"
Amy kept her smile, actually a little taken a back by her daughter's reaction. Her daughter... sometimes it was a little much to fathom that fact that River Song was her and Rory's daughter, though in her current incarnation she did resemble her father greatly, which actually soothed her to no end. "Christmas, I believe... it hasn't been that long. Why are you staring, you look like you've seen a ghost." she quipped, actually letting out a small chuckle right after.

Sam was trying desperately to put out the fire created by her disastrous attempt at making fudge. She’d been trying to surprise one of her friends with it, and had insisted on doing it on her own, without her parents’ help. Which turned out to be a terrible plan. As her mother came down the stairs, she doubled her efforts by putting the scalded pot in the sink and dousing it with cold water. This only gave birth to a fresh bout of blazing steam that she narrowly avoided. “Probably would have been, yeah,” she called through the haze. “But I just couldn’t bear to do it, you know.”
"That really does smell awful." she said, shaking her head as she spotted the pot in the sink. A pot she now knew was ruined beyond measure. Amy put her hand over her face, trying to stop the slight bought of coughing that came up as she reached the pot and once she doused it in more water, picked it op and tossed it in the trash. "Your father can get rid of that when he gets home. What exactly were you doing anyway?" she asked, trying not to laugh at Sammy's quick reply. Her obvious wit not being missed by the copper haired woman that stood before her younger daughter.

Amy walked along the upper floor of her home, the smell of burn chocolate in the air as she arched a brow, making her way downstairs towards the kitchen. It was then she saw it, smoke leaving through the window and a slight scorch mark on the roof of her formerly perfect kitchen. "It would have been kinder to burn the house down, eh." she said, trying to find the culprit so she could help them clean up this disaster.
