and nothing was burning, nothing but I,
Denise Levertov, from Poems: 1960 - 1967; “Caedmon,” (via violentwavesofemotion)
I am very tired of my own brain,
Gustave Flaubert, from a letter to Maxime Du Camp c. April 1854 (via violentwavesofemotion)
She is both, hell fire and holy water. And the flavor you taste depends on how you treat her.
Sneha Pal (via asking-jude)
أعوذ بالله من حزنٍ يأكل القلب بصمت
I seek refuge in God from sorrows that rip me apart in silence
– Nikita Gill
There are distances and darknesses inside me that no one can handle. This is why I love myself.
Nikita Gill (via meanwhilepoetry)
Honestly the best piece of advice I can give to younger girls trying to figure life out is to completely ignore men. I’m not being quirky or cute when I say that, I mean it seriously. Ignore men’s judgments of you, ignore their insincere compliments, ignore their half-assed romance. Focus on developing yourself. Practice your art, play sports, do theater, volunteer, spend time with your friends, but do not put substantial effort into pleasing men. They’ll be there for you to pursue when the time comes and if you want to. But nothing will waste your youth more than fighting for male acceptance.
Lock up your libraries if you like; but there is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind.
Virginia Woolf, born January 25, 1882 (via bearingwater)
It’s strange how your childhood sort of feels like forever. Then suddenly you’re sixteen and the world becomes an hourglass and you’re watching the sand pile up at the wrong end. And you’re thinking of how when you were just a kid, your heartbeat was like a kick drum at a rock show, and now it’s just a time bomb ticking out. And it’s sad. And you want to forget about dying. But mostly you just want to forget about saying goodbye.
Beau Taplin (via hplyrikz)

I got told by pretty much everyone I knew that, if I’m going to be out in L.A., working, you need a car. So I was thinking, I’m going to try and not get a car, just because I’m a contrarian that way.
