A little late night blogging
I've really been thinking about the blessings I often take for granted, and one of them being the fact that I found what I end up wanting to do in life. I found out that I really do want to be a speech pathologist, and I'm so lucky to find something I'm not just forcing myself to like, or something I only THINK I want to do as a career. Something to settle on. NO. Being a Speech Pathologist is something I KNOW I want to do. Everyday, I learn something about this field that makes me fall in love with it more. This is something I'm so thankful for, but I often forget about. I get so worried and sad for those people who are just forced to a major or to a career because they don't know what else to do. I see and meet those people everyday. I find peace and relief that I found something I want to do and I would love to do, and I'm so thankful for it.
Another thing I'm thankful for is my friendships. I may not have "a lot of friends," but the ones I do have, are the most genuin ones in the world. I know people I dont talk to for weeks, and then text them and suddenly feel that sense of home and security and self. I'm proud to say I have friends who I can truly be myself around, and talk to about anything and everything. People I can just text even if its only once in a while, and yet I can have a full on and meaningful conversation with them.
Recently, I just haven't been counting my blessings but wishing for more instead, and its not good. So I've decided to find the good things in my life, and focus on that. By doing so, I've found so many great things that I should be happy about. There are people out there with worse problems who would kill to have some of what I have. I think we all should think about these things once in a while. We should all see what we take for granted, and cherish and appreciate it. Life can be shitty at times, but for the most part, life is good.
I have so much to be thankful for
Since I've been having such a rough transition from home to university, I always call my parents and they always tell me I have so much to be thankful for. And they're totally right! I realized as long as I focus more on what I dont have, I miss out on appreciating the blessings I do have.
I have such a great family. My mom and dad are the most amazing parents, I can talk to them about anything and everything and when I'm on a pickle, I can always count on them to help make me feel better. They've also done so many things for my brother and I, and they've sacrificed so much to give us a bright and successful future. My brother and I have the best sibling relationship, he's probably the funniest kid I know and I truly consider him one of my best friends. And my grandmother is always here to give me words of wisdom. She does a lot to pick up for my mom and dad when they're tired from work, and we all appreciate all of what she does for us. I have such a great family and such a fantastic support system from home and unfortunately I know not all people have that. But I am so thankful that I do.
I go to one of the worlds best universities. I think most people that go here take that for granted. Moving here from a community college, I've realized how many opportunities this university offers. My professors are one of the best, I have theh opportunity to get involved in research and I have a fantastic hands on volunteering opportunity at the Austin Speech Labs. I work with stroke victims and help them with speech and cognitive therapy. Through this volunteer work, I realize I'm definitely in the right field, and that is one of the best feelings in the world. To feel how much passion, interest and love I have for this career is so rewarding and such a big relief. This university has given me so much academically, and I am so thankful for that.
I have found such a true friendship. I met my now best friend Sharlie from work about 2 years ago. We started working at American Eagle and we've ended up as best friends. Unfortunately, she lives in Michigan. But even if she is states away, I'm so glad we maintain such a good friendship. She helps me when I'm down, she understands my weirdness and my goofiness. I can be COMPLETELY myself when I'm around her. We're two totally different people, but the same person at the same time. Its incredible to have her as a friend. She brings out the best in my personality. She is also one of the kindest, nicest and friendliest people I've met. I am so blessed to have a friend like her.
We finally got our greencard! As immigrants, my family and I have been waiting YEARS to get our greencard. Finally, we got it! This is about to make our lives so much easier. We dont have to pay lawyers thousands of dollars each month, and we can finally get financial aid for my brother and I for college. My parents and I have been praying for this, and finally its here. Its such a relief for my parents, and we are all so thankful for this blessing.
I'm sure I have a lot more to be thankful for, but these are the big ones. I'm thankful I have such great room mates, I'm thankful for my health and safety. I'm thankful I just got an incredible job for the university. I have so much to be thankful for, and I should be focusing on all these blessings instead of the things I dont have. There are a couple more things missing in my life, but I'm sure I will be blessed with them eventually, I just need to be patient and faithful.
A revelation
I'm tired of being taken for granted. I'm tired of feeling used and abused. I'm tired of always getting the short stick. I'm tired of only being needed when someone is lonely or drunk. I'm tired of waiting. I'm tired of the same bull shit. I'm tired of this cycle. I'm tired of convenience. I'm just so damn tired.
I need to stand up for myself. I need to pursue my happiness wether you're in it or not. If you want to, then stay. If not, then leave. I need to let go.
YUP, NEW TUMBLR
I've been an avid user and fan of Tumblr since, I dunno, I was a freshman? sophomore? in high school and I am now a junior in college. I'm currently at the communications building in my university, waiting the clock to hit 4pm since I have a job interview across the street then. I should be studying, but I'm not... typical.
This is my first semester at a big university (I went to a community college my first two years of college) and so far I've had the most exciting experiences in life and its only been 6 weeks since I've moved out of good ole' Tomball, Texas. Since moving to Austin, Texas, I've had the most interesting experiences. Its been good and bad. Maybe not bad, but just a reality check. I'm 20, six months away from being 21 and 48 credits away from a Bachelors degree. The world and its reality is feeling heavier and heavier in my head and on my shoulders. This is why I wanted to start a new blog/Tumblr. I want to write about experiences, I want to document the bad things, and the good things. The shitty days and the awesome days. I want to grow and I want to learn more about myself and this is what this is for. I dont know if anyone else will read this, and if not, I dont really care. If you do, welcome! Welcome to my life, and you will also probably recognize your life here too.
Today, the weather is perfect, its a solid 80 degrees outside with a nice but annoying breeze. I just got an A+ on a quiz and as I said earlier, I have a job interview in a couple of minutes. I have so much to be thankful for. I feel good. In fact, I feel great.
