★ Peter finds ways to slip in Terran references despite knowing that most company he's around won't get it, because it's a way to keep the culture of his home world alive inside his head. He's afraid that if he didn't bring it up every chance he got, he'd forget it altogether so he overcompensates. Big time.

★ Peter primarily sings backup when he belts out his music. He'll switch between lead and backup, but mostly he'll sing the backup lines because they feel more raw and emotional instead of flat and rehearsed to him. Of course, after years and years of the same song, everything is a bit rehearsed...

LOVE

Peter made a mistake of hooking up with this woman more than once; a few more times than once. He didn't even realize how much of a mistake he'd made until she let the words 'god I garking love you' slip one night in the midst of some pretty stellar lovin'. Needless to say, it kind of ruined the mood for him. There are only three things Peter will openly admit to loving, even to himself, and that's his mom, the music she gave him, and the Guardians. Anything else makes him run for the hills. Ironic, because he's actually a huge sap. But then, maybe that fault can be given to the tone of the lyrics he's always listening to on repeat...thanks, mom.

ACCENT

Growing up, Peter never paid much attention to how people spoke. He lived in a small town. There wasn't all that much diversity to take notice of. Then, discerning one accent from another became a matter of survival later on. Sure, he had the translator chip implanted in his neck, but understanding what words a person was telling you and actually understanding the person are different things altogether. Each race had its own rules, its own little hiccups that could land him in a world of hurt if he said the wrong thing and 'soiled their honor' or whatever. There's a lot of blue-skinned people, for example, but not all of 'em are Kree.

Peter's grown fond of doing impressions of tv personalities in front of Drax. The humor that ensues really needs no explaining.

The Guardians had been under stress for too krutarcking long; cramped on the Milano and at each other's throats over trivial things. It happened. And yeah, okay, maybe thinking going to the bar with Rocket wouldn't end in a scene being made that ended with Rocket storming off in a stream of obscenities (half of which, Peter was pretty sure he'd made up) had been stupidly optimistic. Peter would have to fix it before they took off again. Later. He'd let Rocket cool off for a while first.

"Forward?" Peter repeated with an amused scoff, "Buddy, if this is your idea of forward..." He paused like he hadn't know where he was going with that as he was saying it and was now scrambling for a punchline. "What the flark are you doing on Knowhere?!" Peter looked him over for a second, trying to decide if the guy was serious or if there was some catch Peter was missing. "Did you lose a bet? Get really bad directions?"

"...'s not a bad offer though," he admitted, scratching at the back of his neck. "I could use the company." A smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth, "But fair warning? If we're gonna be friends, there's at least a forty percent chance somebody starts shooting at us before the night's over."

The Milano had been docked for the past few days. The first couple, he wouldn't stay on the ship for more than was absolutely necessary. He needed to stretch out his legs, metaphorically, and explore a bit. But today he's holed himself up in the lower deck, cleaning his gear and toying with odds and ends of the Milano. His company of choice being the music pouring from the wall-docked cassette player up in the cockpit. 

     "Oh, sugar, oh, honey, honey, You are my candy girl, And you got me wanting you, Oh, honey, oh, sugar, sugar, You are my candy girl, And you got me wanting yoouu—"

He stopped — mid-elaborate-twirl, blaster in hand because it had been acting as a stand-in for a mic — to stare at the intruder. That wasn't creepy or anything....

     "Oh—hey—uh, what...are...you...looking at me like that for?"

The exhaustion Darcy felt could not be contained to a single eye roll and had to worm it's way through her entire skeletal system so violently that it might have frightened someone less used to dramatic emotional expulsions.

Her head tilted back, foot stomped, shoulders swayed back and forth, and she groaned LOUDLY. Darcy held her hands up as if to clutch at something but it was just thin air and her frustration.

"Ugh you're soooo!!!! UGH!!!"

She yanked it back and held out her hand for the earbuds to be returned as well.

"Then fine, you don't have to use it. Jesus christ on a pogo stick, you're worse than my boomer-ass dad, and that's almost impossible, bro."

Alright, so maybe Darcy was being a little mean. Maybe patience was not her strongest virtue and MAYBE she was getting hangry because if the loud gurgle that sounded off wasn't her stomach then where did that noise even come from??

It almost surprised her with how loud it was, "oh, god, that was totally my stomach... didn't eat breakfast."

There was a pause, a beat of silence where she appeared to be chewing on a thought real hard. It wasn't that she disliked him, it was more that she hardly knew him and somehow the duty of catching him up to speed on certain things was suddenly HER duty. He probably didn't ask for it and she didn't suggest it, but everyone and their freaking moms seemed to think they would get along like a house on fire.

Whatever the fuck that meant.

"...well fuck it, wanna go eat?"

Peter snorted a cut-off laugh at her reaction. He couldn't help it! He wasn't used to someone outdoing him in the theatric reactions department. The woman seemed pissed. Which could have easily escalated his own annoyance and blown everything up. But instead, he decided it was amusing. Maybe he just had a thing for pissing people off. With his track record? That seemed to be a pretty likely explanation for his lopsided grin as he returned the stupid, inferior earbuds to her and held his hands up in a placating surrender.

"Okay, rude! Calling me old because I know cassettes sound better than that thing is so uncalled for and—" He stopped whatever witticism he'd been about to say when Darcy's stomach gurgled. He snickered and gave her a knowing, almost impressed look.

Peter opened his mouth to counter with a quip before the suggestion really sank in. He was already salivating at the idea of good ole Earth food. He'd missed cheese soo bad!

"I could eat." He admitted agreeably, before turning very serious as he folded his arms over his chest and added, "—Unless you're gonna break my heart and tell me food 's changed too. 'Cause I don't think I can handle that." He was only kind of joking. Peter was sharp enough to know some things had inevitably changed. That was the natural order. Though, it would have been way cooler if Earth had stayed a time capsule for him. Oh well. He probably should have had hang-ups himself about blindly following someone he barely knew. But Peter was the blind trust sort. The jump now, come up with a contingency plan if the need arises, kinda guy.

1. What they smell like: Nitric oxide (that smell that lingers after a thunderstorm), metal, leather, and a faint hint of fuel usually. He's not big on cologne.  2. How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc.): Unless there is something on his mind that won't let him sleep, Peter zonks out in record time and nothing short of a ballistic blast will wake him up before he's ready. He falls asleep on his back or stomach. 3. How much time they spend getting ready every morning: Around ten minutes. The first nine of which are importantly spent belting out power ballads. After that it takes him all of one minute to throw on clothes, maybe brush his hair, and grab his gear. 4. Their favourite thing to collect: Scars. Anything Terran he happens upon. Mostly he gets odd things off of junkers. 5. Religion (if any): Christian, if anything. Although everything he's seen makes him feel like no one really has it right. The universe is just too expansive for any one culture to have it figured out, right? He still likes to believe that there is a Heaven and that his mom is there though. Even if his father is far from the angel his mom claimed he was. 6. Favourite sport: Orloni racing. 7. Favourite touristy thing to do when traveling: Sampling local culture...through one-night stands. What else would you expect? 8. Favourite kind of weather: Rain. Weather in space is a lot different from Terran weather. And for the most part when it rains out there it's more like skin-melting acid...he really misses Terran rainstorms. 9. A weird/obscure fear they have: That he'll wake up one morning covered in Orloni while they try to eat him alive in an act of revenge....it's fairly irrational. Right?!

Peter grew up with a huge family down on Earth. Well, it wasn't even huge. It just felt that way because most members of his extended family lived in the same town. He had several cousins and that meant he was very familiar with the joys and horrors that brought. His cousins loved tormenting one another, but Peter never did feel the need to jump into their prank wars. Until someone painted his bike pink. Let’s just say his cousin Susan came home to find all the heads of her Barbie dolls missing mysteriously.

Peter never expected the name ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ to stick. He could hardly get people to call him Star-lord, why would people actually call them Guardians? They weren’t cut out to be guardians. The thing on Xandar had just been a fluke, an extreme situation that had forced them to rise above their bad habits and work to, ya know, stop the galaxy from imploding in on itself. He considered coming up with other names for their little team, if you could call them that, something that’d suit their personalities better, but people really took to the name Ronan had mockingly given them. In the end, he was kinda glad they had. It gave them something to live up to. Maybe with a bit of pressure they could be the type of people who did stuff like guard planets and save the galaxy on a semi-regular basis.

Peter pulled a face, "I don't know if that's comforting or not. What's your metric for bad? Because..." He trailed off to whistle, rocking back on the heels of his worn boots, "I know my metric for bad mistakes. And, yeah, it's pretty high up there..." He sounded like he was bragging. He was. "Like, you wouldn't believe some the stories I got bad! So, if I said that, it wouldn't be very comforting. At. All."

"I know scud all about this kind of mystical stuff — so, uhh, how bad is it? Scale of one to ten. One being totally chill, no big deal and ten being galaxy-exploding-badness?"
