An exciting new announcement from the official Disney Parks blog just went live on their site, and I had to share it here! Official concept art and renderings are viewable above.
Here’s what Shannon Swanson (PR manager for the Disneyland Resort) had to say: "In a surprise move sure to please fans of Disneyland and our beloved animated feature Frozen, I can now officially confirm that Walt Disney Imagineering is set to premiere a brand-new upgrade to a attraction that’s been thrilling guests for generations: the Matterhorn Bobsleds will officially be converted to the new, thrilling, family-friendly experience Frozen: Ice Mountain this coming Winter at Disneyland Park!
In the attraction’s plot, Elsa, Queen of Arendelle, has once more set out to find a new icy domain to her liking - settling on the gorgeous, remote Matterhorn! Watch closely as you careen through the alpine glaciers and snowy caverns, as some of Elsa’s friends have tagged along: you might see Olaf, the jolly snowman, make an surprise appearance, and Kristoff and Sven will doubtless be on hand to ‘shower’ Guests with a accidental spray of cold water when Sven plops into the glacial waterfall-fed lake. It will be fun for the whole family to see Elsa and her younger sister Anna reunited and singing together deep in the mountain, but watch out for the dastardly Hans, who might be lurking when you least expect him!
In addition to new audio-animatronics figures and special effects, our Guests can look forward to a state of the art audio system in each bobsled, to pipe in the award winning music from the film, newly arranged for the attraction. I am told by project head Gregorlie Steveburgson III that the attraction will ‘truly improve and pay homage to the Matterhorn Bobsleds we all love so much’, and that he is sure ‘Walt would have loved our ideas for Ice Mountain, since they make it relevant and fresh again for a whole new group of our Guests.’
Longtime Disneyland Guests have made clear their enjoyment of recent upgrades to classic attractions such as the whimsical Disney animated character dolls added to It’s A Small World, that infamous rogue Captain Jack Sparrow taking up residence with the Pirates of The Caribbean, the loveable Winnie The Pooh replacing the Country Bear Jamboree, and the annual Halloween/Christmas takeover of Haunted Mansion by Jack Skellington and his ghoulish friends. We know this permanent overlay to the Matterhorn will delight and pleases our Guests for years to come (particularly the younger pirates and princesses!), at the same time as we enhance a classic attraction that Walt Disney himself dreamed up and lived to see and enjoy.
