Stumbled across a white supremacist’s account, which, as a Mexican, disturbed me a little. But, surprisingly, what made me the most sad was the person themselves. She is literally my age and we both called ourselves Catholic, but she is filled with hate. She admires school shooters and might have an eating disorder of sorts. It just made me so sad that someone my age has been rotten to the point of being a terrible person, either from her support system, the internet or both

11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

Hank is probably the most unpopular character I like. Outside of Walt, I think he has the most interesting character progression in Breaking Bad, which makes sense since his arc is designed in opposition to Walt’s. His struggle with PTSD, then disability, and the way it challenges his identity is just so perfectly paced. I also like how he becomes a more curious and competent detective as he shrugs off the macho persona that he was so desperate to keep at the start of the show—again, the opposite of Walt who adopts s1 Hank’s traits. Additionally Hank is such an entertaining presence in the show. Whether he’s a protagonist or an antagonist, I’m never bored when he’s on screen.

I understand the fandom’s misgivings towards Hank: ACAB sentiments combined with an effort to compensate for the other parts of the fandom who wrongly treat him like a hero. However, I think it’s a mistake to overly demonize him, just like it’s a mistake to overly demonize Walt. There is not a single main player in Breaking Bad who doesn’t have humanizing qualities. And some of Hank’s flaws, in my opinion, are justified: one criticism that particularly bothers me is when people accuse him of being « abusive » towards Marie during his recovery. The reason why this bothers me is that it makes me wonder how those people would react to real patients who, after a lifetime of being able-bodied, find themselves paralyzed, dependant on caretakers for even the most basic tasks and deprived of privacy. It’s hard to be perfect in that situation. And in Breaking Bad, with the way they support each other, I’m tempted to say that Hank and Marie are the healthiest couple in both shows.

Anyway. To circle back to the question, I also love Hector a lot but people don’t really hate him tbh. No one hates a character that is fully evil. They hate characters that are similar real people, and real people are never fully evil.

15. Unpopular opinion about the show?

In a similar vein, a take I’ve seen that I disagree with is that Walt « was always like this », pointing to his resentment at the start of the show, or the fact that his wife is younger than him, or whatever. This completely misses the point of the show. The best way I can explain why is through Marie. Marie’s personality is very similar to Walt’s: prideful, envious, feels undervalued in her career, even has criminal tendencies. Yet she’s missing the circumstances (the expectations of masculinity and the threat of cancer) that make Walt cross the line. So she’s able to keep those flaws mostly in check and live a regular life, just like Walt at the start of the show. The story isn’t about a fundamentally evil man finally deciding to act on that evilness. It’s the story of how, given the right incentives, anyone could break bad.

One thing I like about breaking bad is that Walt never once tries his own product. Not even to decompress or to cope with his family issues, never. I got spoiled while I was watching the show so I knew Walt died at the end, and I was hoping that he would purposely overdose on his own product so he can die on what he worked so hard for. But he didn’t, and even after I watched it I was still disappointed a little bit. But his end is perfect. He died by his own gun, just like how he killed his old self by his actions.

In the end, the one most addicted to meth was the man that never tried it. And just like any meth head, ruined his life and ruined his family.

Before I watched BB/BCS, my sister told me Saul’s name was supposed to sound like “Saw a good man.” When I finally finished both shows I told her she was wrong and it was actually supposed to be “S’all good man.” She denied that she ever told me it was “Saw a good man.” But I swear that’s what she said! I wonder which one of us got confused 😂

Can They Cook?? Last Part

Juror 11:

He’s good at baking, but not really good at cooking actual food. His specialty is making poppy seed rolls, it’s an Eastern European dessert, so he learned it when he was still living back home. He hasn’t had any bad experiences with making meals, it’s mainly his lack of trying that makes him incapable. The most he’s made is a tomato sandwich.

Juror 12:

He can also grill pretty good! But he can make some good salads too, not really salads, just 1950s jello salads 😅 He’s tried making normal vegetable salad but he hates it and puts too much dressing on it.

The Defendant:

Surprisingly, I think he can cook pretty decently. I know he’s a teenager living in a time where men were discouraged from cooking, but him and his father haven’t lived with a woman in almost a decade, so I believe they had to learn to some extent. I doubt his abusive father will regularly cook meals for him, so he had to step up. He can make food from wherever he’s from, but he’s also good at making more American food. Mac and Cheese is easy, so that will be his lazy meal. Severely over boils the noddles tho

Can They Cook?? Part 2.

Juror 6:

Absolute worst at cooking. He’ll somehow manage to burn water. He’s burned food completely black and it always stick to the pan cuz he forgets to add any nonstick products. If his wife doesn’t cook for him, he’ll pop a TV dinner in the microwave and be happy with it.

Juror 7:

He loves grilling like Juror 1, but he’s terrible at it. He either overcooks the food or undercooks it, no in between. He views any other cooking and inherently feminine and refuses to do it. HOWEVER, he used to work at a restaurant and it taught him to make really good mashed potatoes. He adds a shit ton of butter too and bacon pieces if he’s feeling fancy. But he only makes it for special occasions.

Juror 8:

Kinda. But it’s the most bland food ever. Stereotypical “white people food.” I’m talking no seasoning, salt and pepper if he’s feeling fancy. But wherever he tries to season he just overseasons everything. He loves boiled vegetables, and it’s the only thing he can make that taste okay.

Juror 9:

He can! Cooking is his love language. However, he doesn’t really cook that much nowadays since he’s getting old. But when he was young he was swinging it in that kitchen. His breakfast is the best and very extravagant when he has the energy.

Juror 10:

He can make some crazy fried chicken! A secret recipe for the breading and dipping sauce too. Also some spicy as fuck hot honey to go along with it. One bite and you can’t remember your name and address. He’s even specific about the kind of oil he uses to fry. He treats that recipe like government secrets 🤫Outside of that, he can’t cook for 💩.

Can They Cook?? Part 1.(This will be 3 parts)

Juror 1:

His wife takes care of the everyday cooking, but he owns that grill! He finds any excuse to grill up burgers and hotdogs and goes CRAZY on the Fourth of July. The most he can make on a regular day is a fried egg, but he adds way too much oil to the pan.

Juror 2:

He can’t cook much either, but he can boil pasta and add shredded cheese and that’s pretty much it. 0 sauce on those noodles tho. Just plain pasta with cold cheese sprinkled on top. He mainly makes it for young kids. He’s tried grilling but he ruined the cookout with his undercooked patties.

Juror 3:

He can make decent eggs and bacon, only eggs and bacon tho! But only for himself when he’s home alone, he refuses to cook for his wife and (especially) his son. Self proclaimed “carnivore.”

Juror 4:

He’s a health nut, so his wife to makes healthy meals for him. He can only really make yogurt bowls, and even then he only eats them for breakfast. I’ll hardly consider yogurt bowls “cooking” but if you’ll ask him he’ll insist: preparing food = cooking. But yeah, his kitchen skills stop at yogurt bowls, and maybe cutting up an apple to decorate it too. Of course, after each healthy meal he washes it down with half a pack of cigarettes.

Juror 5:

Gordon Ramsey of struggle meals😎He ate them growing up and it had allowed him to perfect the craft of making something out of nothing. He can’t make anything beyond that though, so an actual meal? No. However, he’s content with his struggle meals and doesn’t see the point of learning to make more. He eats purely for survival

I’ve always though the defendant was Hispanic, but the fourth meme is if he is Italian. We don’t know anything about his actor, but his name is listed as John Savoca, which is an Italian name. So chances are he is actually Italian lol
