my name is ACE.
Boy.
hey, thanks! // ace & croc.
Raising an eyebrow, Crocodile scans him up and down, as if trying to find a visible ulterior motive. “Uh… huh.”
Nonetheless, he accepts the gift, his giant, ring-adorned hand dwarfing the box. “Sweets?” he grumbles, his voice colored with a tinge of sleepiness. He looks down at Ace with eyes that speak of derision, but in his stomach was a mixture of confusion and, somewhere in there, cautious happiness at the foreign gesture.
He didn’t often receive holiday gifts, having no real family or friends, other than subordinates. If asked, he’d almost certainly say he preferred it that way, and it wasn’t exactly a /lie/, but the loneliness did pull at him sometimes, especially during this season of generosity or whatever. For the most part, he regarded it as sentimental nonsense, some cultural obligation to pretend to not be selfish for a month or so. Every creature on this planet only lives to benefit themselves, get themselves ahead. The smartest and most merciless are the ones that thrive, and attempting to hide that fact was pointless to him. But he couldn’t help but feel something warm when he held the box in his hand, and he resented it with every fiber of his being.
“Are you going to leave now.”
Embarrassment and shame makes itself known, but he doesn’t let on at all. He just nods at the question.
“I figured everyone needs to eat, and even if you’re grumpy and soulless there’s no way you don’t like blondies.”
He wasn’t sure what to expect after actually handing off the box, come to think of it. What would be the common thing to do, just send him away as Crocodile is ( though he’s doing it rudely ) or invite him in? Ace chews on his lip some and nods.
“Seems like you don’t want me here, so good night, Sir.” he tells him, “I hope your holidays are nice if I don’t see you before then.”
He shoots him another smile and turns to leave.
"Wait." Crocodile commands gruffly, grabbing the collar of Ace's sweater with his hook. "Making dinner. It's cold. Come have a drink." He lets go of the collar, not bothering to hold the door for Ace. The gift seemed to have sparked something in him, though he wouldn't admit it even to himself and tried with all he had to stomp it out. Call it a ghost of who he used to be, back when he was Ace's age, some bond he'd never dare voice. He justified it with the fact that even at his stature and age, he still didn't know how much pasta to cook for just one person.
