Today. Legs. Feel fine now but tomorrow's long run is going to be a bitch.
Yesterday. Arms and chest. Getting back to it. Going lighter to concentrate on form. Kick to the ego though...
Cardio Sunday. Just can't bring myself to run at the moment. Enjoying doing a two-hour indoor cycle instead, sipping a protein smoothie and watching cooking shows. Lazy.
Forgot to post this up yesterday. Had a disastrous Friday workout, cut short after just 25 mins of cyling and 5 x 5 70kg squats. Anyway, this was a better Saturday at least. No cardio because I have a big cardio session on Sunday.
Owwwwww, my ARSE!
Well, needless to say I was very ambitious and full of it yesterday, declaring that I would be going on my long run today... By midnight last might my frickin' arse was on fire (well, my glutes...) from the jumping squats plus heavy squats. By this morning I was shuffling around like an old dear.
However, I still needed to clock in a big cardio session (not least because I want to land face first in a roast dinner tonight) so I did just over two hours on the sit down bike. Frenzied activity, it was not. I took a fucking book! But, armed with some dark chocolate dipped pumpkin seeds and a protein smoothie, plus my book, I had a really relaxing time and still got a sweat on. Better than nothing.
Had a really good paleo lunch and having a paleo-ish roast dinner tonight.
I *may* need to sleep with my bum elevated tonight though...
I wasn't joking about the sit down bikes. My arse wrecks after yesterday!
I plan on trying this next week.
80kg, loves! #squats #ow #pride #beforeafall? #hopenot
Reeaaallly happy with this. Mainly a 5x5 session (super happy with 80kg squats!) with some abs, back and added fat burning/bum burning jumping squats. Had two other exercises I wanted to do (shoulder press and incline bench) but my left arm stopped the former (I tried...) and a bench hog stopped the latter (I glared...). Tomorrow is long run day and I hope to be buckled by the end of it... Ordered the food for next week and husband is going weekday paleo with me, which will help no end. Back on it!
Happy that I pushed up to 100kg on the leg press, wish my left arm wasn't still wrecked as I'd like to bench a lot heavier than this. Figure staying on point will be easier if I share my progress again. Food was better today - almost paleo - although I did have a third of a pumpkin muffin... Switching back from wine to G&(slimline)T. Determined!
Yeah...
Pah
I've really fallen off the wagon. Since completing the half marathon and finishing the 12 week weight training programme, I've really drifted. Done more cycling than running, played with 5x5, eaten like a dirty pig. So, enough. Going to have a healthy weekend (not paleo but moving towards it), add in 25 minutes of cardio every time and switch to a more intense 5x5 programme. And I need to increase my dog walking - which has dipped since we moved. So, new plans and goals: - get under 25 minute 5k - squat 80kg ( currently on 75kg) - bench 50kg (currently on 37.5kg) - no drinking during the week, cut down at weekends - paleo except for one cheat meal (and tea, because I'm not there yet...)
One week today... (Oh f***)
Well, after the rash of injuries, I then had to shelve training because my husband had to work abroad for two weeks so I couldn't get out to run. Full blown disasters! But I'd done a ten miler before he left, thank goodness, managed to get one gym session in (thanks to hastily booked childcare) and got my exercise bike so I could at least keep up my cardiovascular fitness... Threw in a couple of kettlebell sessions and lots of walking and hoped for the best! Did three miles yesterday, increasing to 7.5mph in the last leg. Then a weights session (whole body) but took it easy on the squats (50kg, 3 x 10). Today, went out with my running club for the first time in forever (about 4 weeks, anyway) and we did seven verrrryyy hilly miles. Which was great, tough, but great. I've been helped with loads of advice from seasoned halfers (for which I'm super grateful) and I'm now tapering... The plan is a heavy weights session tomorrow, with hill walking to recover from today. Tuesday, my last run before the race - a fast three. And a good weights session. Wednesday, I'm thinking about swimming... Then that's it until Sunday... I'll be dog walking but nothing else. It's going to feel very weird to be chomping down pasta and not working out. Weird but awesome!
Taking it a little steady after a long run on Saturday and a big cycle on Sunday.
Half marathon in 5 weeks so it's all about the running, hence the light weights. Aiming for a 10 miler tomorrow - eek!
Training... Argh
Half-marathon on 8 September, 13 whole miles and a bit. When I signed up, many months ago, I had lofty ambitions of doing it in under 2 hours. Then this happened: 1. Severe tendinitis - requiring weeks of rest and no running. Cock and balls. Was doing weightlifting anyway but kept cardio fitness through cycling. Sort of. 2. My foot healed, just about. I picked up the running and hadn't lost too much pace. I increased interval training and hill running. Meanwhile I was moving my weightlifting into high weight, low reps. So I was doing standing calf raises with my body weight plus my body weight again on the bar. Consequently my foot snapped again. Weeks without proper training. 3. Started picking up longer runs, bit of hill running. Still had a couple of months until the race. Then I had bad chest pains. I know, right, you take that shit seriously. I ignored it. I ignored it for three weeks until I was Googling "coronary heart disease symptoms" and freaking out every night... I wasn't able to run longer than five or six miles without the pain getting too much. Then I went to see the doctor. I had an ECG, full blood tests and a talking to. I had to rest until the results came. I'm fine, it's cool but I'm massively behind. And I've put on about half a stone. WAH! So now we're under a month out. I ran eight miles yesterday on the treadmill (although I did stop for a wee) and kept to a solid 6mph. It's way slower than my previous pace but I'm trying to be philosophical about it. So next weekend I need to do 10 miles, weekend after 12. I may not be able to run the whole time, well okay. And then the weekend after it'll be a fast six. In between the long runs, I'll be doing a mixture of three/four mile jogs and intervals. I've eased off the weights until the race, doing some but mostly those that support running. And we'll see. We'll see.
Half marathon in 5 weeks so it's all about the running, hence the light weights. Aiming for a 10 miler tomorrow - eek!
