DIANA CARRIES HER SECRETS in the depths of her eyes. Perhaps that is why they only stay secrets for such a small amount of time. This secret, though, she is positively bursting with. Her body is swollen to the degree where her armor feels constrictive; her stomach is churning from breakfast. If she smells like bile, it’s because she has spent the last half hour losing the contents of her stomach by vomiting into porcelain. Half of the League has already figured out what Diana is too startled to admit. She’s still muttering those unspeakable words. The ones that feel so unintelligible. You’re pregnant. I’m pregnant. She worries, truly, that if she were to say them out loud then the spell would be broken and her womb would revert to being empty.

The League didn’t even need to dismiss her, before Diana was flying home, laughing at how the motion made her feel woozy. Her palm cradled her armored belly, as though she could wish into existence the swell that would take a couple more months to become visible. Now, she’s home and the smile hasn’t faltered.

❛ I’m having a baby. ❜ She repeats to herself again and again. Not realizing that Steve has already arrived home and is standing behind her. For the record, the happy dance that ensues from Diana would have occurred whether she knew she was being watched or not.

I’M HAVING A BABY.

those few words flew right over his head. he wasn’t destined to be a father... he knew that the moment he stepped in that plane a century ago. even then, he never thought about having a baby with diana... it never crossed his mind. they were given another chance to be together... in a world he doesn’t seem to understand, but that didn’t matter to him. of course it didn’t matter. the only thing that matters to him right now is diana --- it’s ALWAYS been diana.

he grew up idolizing his father. although the older man was never around, steve knew that he wanted to grow up with values that were close to his dad’s. he wasn’t the best man in the world... nobody was during a time where people were dying on the streets, seeking help through jobs that didn’t pay enough. nobody will ever be PERFECT, but steve thrives to be perfect for his baby... the baby he’ll be having with diana.

“ ... you’re having a baby? my baby? ” steve asked, turning the woman he loves more than anything around. he wanted to look in her eyes... how uncanny this all felt to him. time didn’t seem to pass when he wrapped his arms around her, kissing her lips ever so passionately --- this felt good. this felt right. he was home... FINALLY. “ we’re having a baby. ”
