Happy Valentines Day Washington!!
Today, President Obama raised the minimum wage for federal contract workers to $10.10/hour.
Reblog this if you agree itâs time to do the same for all Americans.
Washington State's Death Penalty Moratorium
I applaud Governor Inslee today for his choice to put a moratorium on executions in this state. We have certainly seen evidence that the death penalty has been applied unevenly over the years in many cases of race and social justice. As DNA evidence and other advances have been made in technology, more than 140 death row inmates have been exonerated in this country since 1973. Governor Insleeâs bold move today is the first step to righting this uneven system.â
In case you need convincing, this is one of many reasons why unemployment insurance should be renewed.
Foes of abortion have opposed most every single public policy that contributes to lowering the abortion rate in America.
- âThank the Pill for the Abortion Rate Drop,â by Sally Kohn
A new study shows that the abortion rate among American women is at its lowest level since 1973âthanks, in large part, to affordable, accessible birth control. So why are politicians attacking that, too?

Earlier today the Reproductive Parity Act (RPA), which would protect access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare in Washington by requiring that insurance companies that cover maternity...
On Wednesday the State House passed the Reproductive Parity Act which will help ensure that all women get the health coverage they need. Now it just needs to pass through the Senate!
It is a common myth that very low-wage workersâworkers who would see a raise if the minimum wage were increasedâare mostly teenagers. The reality is that raising the federal minimum wage to $10.10 per hour would primarily benefit older workers. 88 percent of workers who would be affected by raising the minimum wage are at least 20 years old, and a third of them are at least 40 years old.
"If you could change one thing about adults, what would it be?" "Iâd give them more money." "More money?" "Yeah. Some of them donât even have money to buy food."
This girl has the right idea. You know what we could do to give adults more money? Raise the minimum wage!
The Affordable Care Actâs preventive care benefit guarantees no-cost birth control in every plan. Hereâs how you can get it. (via Cosmo)
SEAHAWKS WON THE SUPERBOWL!
When Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-5) delivered the GOP response to the State of the Union speech, she spun a nice story. But this is what we think Rep. McMorris Rodgers and her party are really saying.
This is crazy.
Did you catch it? In the GOPâs official response to President Obamaâs State of the Union address, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers said her party âtrusts people to make their own decisionsââjust hours after that same party passed a bill that interferes in the private health decisions of millions of Americans. Weâve said it before, and weâll say it again: These politicians can say all they want, but weâre paying more attention to what they do.

Itâs no secret that the attacks on womenâs health have dramatically increased over the past few years, but that doesnât make seeing the lineup any less breathtaking.
But thereâs a solution: The Womenâs Health Protection Act will stop these outrageous laws that are undermining womenâs health and rights in state after state. In todayâs political climate, Roe isnât enoughâand weâre not done fighting for womenâs health and rights. Tell Congress to support the Womenâs Health Protection Act now.
Women who use birth control do not have an âoveractive libido.â We are not looking for a handout from âUncle Sugarâ to score a contraceptive fix. We are not sluts. This is not the reality for women â it never has been and never will be.
Sandra Fluke has a memo for former Governor Mike Huckabee and the politicians trying to take away womenâs access to affordable birth control: Itâs not about libido. Itâs basic preventive health care. (via ppaction)
