*Any minor upset in my life*
Me: I could really go for a cigarette
Fighting for my life over here.
(not being the first to break no contact)

Anna Akhmatova, from a poem titled "White Flock," featured in An Anthology of Contemporary Russian Women Poets
Lavender Farm, Oregon
And you're 9 years old again
Tears staining your face under the covers late at night
And you wonder if this pain lasts forever
But you're 29 now
And you know it never goes away
Tears run down your face again
Neither the alcohol or superficial distractions could keep at bay
The endless ache of a single longing
To feel loved
We come from the same earth as the wildflowers and the sparrows
And tonight when I was sobbing in the bathroom mirror, towel around my breasts and tears dripping down onto my chest I asked myself the age old question
What's the point?
But tonight I looked into my own swollen eyes in the mirror and replied
I am
I'm the fucking point.
People will leave and lie and treat you like a second option
Second best
But I'm not second to anyone
Not when I've worked this fucking hard
To be better
To be present
To be here
I am here
Even if you are not here for me, I am here for myself
I wanted to give up over and over
You told me you were here
I had you
Until now
Until you gave up on me
And I was reminded what my place was in everyone else's life but my own
How could I let myself be fooled again
I was never your first choice
And you never should have been mine
