I’ve just been really busy with life and classes and unfortunately have been exhausted the last couple of days when I finally do get home. I really do want to write more on here, I’m just a bit slammed right now. I’ll try to get on and write out replies tonight. No promises though.

Beth

“Oh my fucking–” Beth let the ‘dead’ body of her brother flump to the floor. “You absolute fucking… asswipe.”

He got her, he really did. Kudos, bro.

She got to her feet, trying not to smile, or look like she was about to cry. She sucked in a breath.

“Wow. Honestly.” Shaking her head, she stepped over the ‘fresh corpse’ (his tongue was sticking out,  Jesus Effing Christ). “Bye-bye, jerkoff–shit!”

Something touched her leg.

Letting himself slump to the floor, Josh did all he could to not burst out laughing at his little sister. His well thought out prank worked and worked well. All was going well, he was even hamming it up obnoxiously just to rub it in a little, until Beth shouted. 

His eyes jolting open, Josh readies himself to catch Beth if she fell or roll over quickly to deal with whatever it was. He was also well aware that this could very well potentially be a trick. Still, that was not a risk he was willing to take.

“Beth? What happened?”

FIND AN ESCAPE ROUTE

The beast Sniffed. This close one could see the way it differed from others of its kind, ones made through human error. Its skin was smooth and looked velvety, mottled with white speckles. Less like a rotted corpse and more like a deformed, malnourished stag.

“friend? eat? eat friend? whisper, whisper, whisper?” It looked with pale, reflective eyes directly at the boy. It knew he was there.

‘Well fuck. It sees me... And it’s looking directly at me.’

“U-uh...” Josh’s words stumbled out of his mouth in the slight panic. “Don’t eat friend. Friend not taste good.” He took a small step back from the beast; he’d have to make a run for it if the monster tried to attack him. “J-just keep talking to friend... Ok, buddy?”

Beth

Beth stopped once she felt the tug, turning back as she looked at her brother and listened to every word he spoke. ‘’Josh – they know it wasn’t you. Chris knows that. We have to go back, we have no where else to go, who knows if there is rescue is coming. Their our friends. They’ll have to forgive you somehow.’’

Josh had to fight to compose himself at this point. Not only was Beth still alive and very much there with him, she wanted him to go with her to go meet up with the others; the very people who tied him up in the first place and made all of this happen. “How do they know that Beth? How do we even know that it wasn’t me? I could...” He swallows hard as he starts to feel the panic welling up in his chest. “I could have done it and not even remember that I did. How do you think they could possibly even think about forgiving me? I don’t know if I could even forgive myself.”

Ash

“We’re monsters not biological.”  Ashley muttered.  “Rely on each other how?  I don’t need to eat you again and you don’t need to eat me.”  Aside from being taught to control herself she didn’t see how she’d be replying on Joshua.  Ashley thought for a moment when he asked on who to mess with.  “A few people, but wouldn’t they need to turn if we ‘take a little sip’?”

Something about what Ashley said to him didn’t sit well with Josh. The tone she snapped back at him with set something primal off in his mind. Snarling, he lunges forward and grabs her roughly by the shoulder. His fangs prominent, Josh keeps his tone at a growl as he addresses Ashley. “Look Ash. You may not think so, but you do have to rely on me. Do you know how to hunt? No. Do you know how to survive yet in this very human and now very harmful world? No. Do you have any idea how to properly feed upon someone? No. I can help you with all of that. I can make it seem as if nothing’s changed about you... But I can also choose not to and let you suffer like I did!” 

Realizing he may have divulged a bit too much information, Josh takes a step back from Ashley and shakes his head. “Sorry Ash. I didn’t mean to snap at you like that...”

{ ♚ } – “Really?” She asked, raised brows and a amused smile in place. “I don’t know Josh, looks to me like Chris is more of the sensitive type.” She paused for a moment, smile turning sly, “Tell you what,” she pointed her pen to the sleeping figure at the table, “let’s make a bet then. I bet he’ll throw at least one punch your way. Loser has to buy the other lunch for the rest of the week.”

Her eyes trailed from Josh to Ashley walking down one of the aisles, the girl about to arrive to the group in any second. She gave Josh one last glance, a competitive air surrounding her, “So? You down or do you have doubts about your best bud never snapping at you?”

A bet? Josh wasn’t really one for gambling, but when it came to bets on peoples’ behaviors he was always game. It being one about whether or not Chris would try to fight him made his confidence sky rocket even higher. There’s no way he’d raise a fist to Josh, even if he helped to embarrass him in front of his crush. 

“You got it Em...” He puts his hand out for her to shake, but not obviously so that Ashley could catch on, and seal the bet. “But you can’t egg him on. That would be cheating and no one likes a cheater.”
