Had Woodhull been as great as I, the great Bucephalus, he would have not betrayed his wife. And then be caught by a soldier. And then shot that soldier.Â
Had Woodhull been a horse, Ensign Baker would still be alive.
//A new level of salt is reached when you realize Ensign Baker is the one who escorts Mary and a sick baby Thomas to White Hall because Abe wonât even make the trip due to his feud with Richard.Â
Itâs like âDudeâŠAbeâŠ.why is the guy crashing in your spare room doing the jobs a HUSBAND should be doing? Seems a little bit weird thereâŠ.just sayingâŠ..âÂ
Also just realized that when Ensign Baker gets back from doing Abeâs job and just wants to crash, he gets to find Abe making out with Anna and is like ââŠâŠreally man? REALLY? Guess I need to be the moral center here because you, Mr. Woodhull, clearly are not.âÂ
Moses stared out of the window of the small car, he sighed as he watched all the cars pulling in to the parking lot of the cathedral. He thought to himself about staying there, he never was very religious but his mother and father definitely were, maybe this wouldnât be so bad after allâŠ
They finally pull in, the tires screeching as the car was put to a stop. He grabbed his bag and opened the door, closing it with a slam and saying goodbye to his parents, who were clearly excited to see him leave, he looked up at the large, weathered sign that says âwelcome to The Cathedral of Joseph, Home to the Faithful Christian Youth campâ huh, it must need some repairs because the words are all faded.. He walked to a man dressed in a priest gown, assuming this is where you check in, He felt very, very out of place, everyone around him seemed as though they werenât forced, as if they wanted to go by their own free will, His thoughts where cut off when a man spoke âMoses Walker, I believe..?â A deep voice spoke, almost bone chilling, he looks up to see the pastor, hovering over him like a predator examining its prey. The pastor was an older man, white hair, slight mutton chops and a thick mustache, his eyes well sunken into his face. âOh! Yup. Hah.. thats me..â Moses mumbles, his voice clearly nervous, he feels his palms sweat. This was going to be a long, miserable summer.
After what felt like hours standing in the sun, the pastor finally gathers everyone into the cathedral, it is a medium size group of kids, some older than him, some younger. A pastor steps onto a stage and taps the microphone, sending a loud high pitched buzzing sound throughout the crowd, people wince and cover their ears, âHello, My children of god! Welcome, to the 1st annual hosting of The Faithful Youth camp, My name is Father Peter and today we will mainly just get to know each other and meet our roommates for the next two months.â Moses sighed under his breath, adjusting his glasses, he really hated social interaction, but after all, these are the people he is going to have to live with.
Priests start to walk around the crowd, people already chatting with each other about their drive here and what they want to learn about God. A priest appears in front of Moses, âhello! Need some help finding your roommateâŠ?â He asked, his voice slightly softer and quieter than the pastorâs⊠âUh..yeah I dont really know what Iâm doing here?â Moses blurted awkwardly, stuttering with his own words, hopping the priest wouldnât pay attention to it. âOf course son, that happens! Its normal to feel out of place in a new environment, especially with no one you know. Câmon, letâs go find your roommate!â He put a hand onto Mosesâ back, coaxing him to walk with him.
After wandering around the cathedralâs long, dim hallways, He finally find Mosesâ roommate, a man around his age, long, shaggy blonde hair and piercing brown eyes, he is standing awkwardly off in a corner, staring at his hands as he fidgets with them, he jolts at the sound of the priestâs voice âHello! You are⊠Cole Summit, correct..?â The man looks up at the priest, his voice soft but deep âyeah⊠why.?â His gaze flickers from the priest to the young man who is starring at him sheepishly. âIâd like to introduce you to your roommate! He is a little shy so dont be mean.â The priest insisted, pushing Moses a little closer to his new roommate, Moses gave him an awkward smile, looking up at him, the priest nods and shuffled off to the large crowd.
âso, uh.. were you forced to go here too?â He asked, silently praying to whoever that he didnât mess up, would Cole be super religious? Was he gonna yell at him or something!?- âyeah, I was.â Coleâs deep, sharp voice interrupted Mosesâ anxious thoughts, he looks down at the small, awkward man, taking in his appearance of short brown hair and round glasses, soft freckles on his olive skin. âAnd here I thought i was gonna be awkward aloneâ Cole smiles, nudging Moses with his shoulder, Moses chuckled, holding his shoulder Cole just nudged, âhey!â
A priest walks the boys to their room, as they walk up the long, spiral stone stairs, the smell of dust rises, it seems no one has been in the cathedral for quite some time. They finally get to their room, the priest opens the door for them, nods, and leaves. The room is a quiet place, an old queen sized bed, a wardrobe, vines growing in the cracks of the stone, wrapping around the wood support of a stain glass window. âWoah.â Moses muttered as he set his bag on the ground next to the door, admiring the old aesthetic of the room. Cole shakes his head and sneezed âugh, damn dust..â he scoffed, Moses giggled as he threw himself onto the bed, lying on his back, starring at the ceiling. âWhats so funny?!â Cole snapped, wiping his nose off, âyou sneeze like a kitty!â Moses giggled, his face a lot more joyous than how it was when they met an hour ago, he seems to be getting comfortable, well, comfortable with Cole at the most.
They lie on their backs on the bed as the talk, giggling and snorting, telling stories about how they got here and how their lives were before this. Suddenly, a loud bell rings, the sound of the bell echoing through the entire cathedral. âThat must be the call for dinner.â Cole said, Moses seemed almost engulfed in the sound, eyes wide as he listened to the beautiful chimes of the bells. âY-yeah, we better get going..â Moses mumbled, propping himself up onto his elbows and pushing himself off the bed, slipping into his shoes âCome on, slow-poke!â Moses said as he held the door open for Cole, âIâm going, Iâm goingâ he mumbled under his breath, stepping out of the door and into the stone stairwell.
They finally make their way down to the cafeteria, its a large, open room with a kitchen to the side, people are already lined up with trays. They grab their trays and wait in line, the staff seemed tired, grumpy even, the food looked like it was macaroni and cheese, Moses couldnât really tell since it was in such a large portion, the cook gave both boys a glop of mac and cheese on their plates and sent them off. âOkay boys! So, either you could sit here in the cafeteria, or outside, your choiceâ a nun said, Moses glanced around the room, the cafeteria absolutely packed, âWeâll sit outside, thank youâ Cole replied to the nun, noticing the look in Mosesâ eyes.
Moses and Cole sit on the back steps of the cathedral, staring into the distance of mountains covered in dry, dead grass, the sun slowly setting over the mountain, the sky fading into warm shades of orange, red, pink and yellow. Moses is picking at his mac and cheese on his tray when Cole blurts âyou know, this is a lot nicer than I thought it would be.â He turned to face Moses, his brown eyes shimmering in the glow of the sunset, Moses smiled, âyeahâŠâit really is..â they sit in a comfortable silence as they watched the sun disappear behind the mountain. Moses takes a small digital camera out of his pocket, âsmile!â He says as he held the camera up, squishing himself against Cole to fit in the picture, Cole lets out a surprised laugh, the camera shuttered as he took the picture. He lowered it and looked at the picture, he chuckled, Cole actually smiled.
They continued to eat their dinner on the back steps. As Moses was staring off into the sunset, Cole couldnât help but feel a sense of comfort and safety, which he definitely wasnât expecting, especially here, in a place formed around a religion he had no part in. But it was a good feeling, it made him feel like he wouldnât be alone here. He felt happy. His thoughts were cut off when a priest called them back in, âCâmon kiddos! Dinners up, light off at nineâ Moses nodded to Cole, signaling to him that he was going back to the room. Moses stood up and offered Cole his hand, Cole was hesitant, but took it gently, standing up. âuhâ âyou dont have to thank me.â Moses interrupted, smiling a gentle, sweet smile as return their trays and walk back up the stairwell.
