This year, I didn’t wish my mother a happy Mother’s Day.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen her last, and there’s been no effort to reach out or be part of my life. I was the only sibling who still reached out on holidays. The others have gone no contact.

We’ve never had a typical mother-daughter relationship. At this point, she is more of a stranger than a parent. I’ve already processed that reality over time.

Mother’s Day has always been a mix of emotions. Seeing others celebrate highlights what wasn’t there, but also serves as a reminder that love like that does exist.

For anyone else who finds today difficult due to an absent parent. You are not alone.
