it happens all the fucking time. ill see artists or artist friends that say "my art doesnt get as much attention on tumblr" which it partly makes sense. twitter is focused on algorithma and also is the most widely used social media site ever. But then i go on their blog and it's just their art posted once a week

like, that's not how art or communities work. Artists don't just post their art apropros of nothing and magically generate fans and supporters.

Also, i've seen other similar twitter artists complain about how they genuinely feel like they NEED to create art based around seo and what's "hot" right now for algorithms. Obviously putting aside "capitalistic hellscape where artists have to pander to generate a livelihood" - art is about community and engagement. We are all artists together, and while making art for yourself is totally valid and fulfilling, if your goal is to expand your fanbase, you need to engage with the community.
