The Blades finished second in the league last season, with 26 points on a 24-game season. This is quite a bit behind league leader Montreal, who finished with 42 in 23 games. Toronto won the Clarkson Cup last season as an upset– before the tournament, Elena and I had it pretty firmly down to either Boston or Montreal, as both teams had been pretty dominant all season. We were both proven wrong– the Toronto Furies won their first Clarkson Cup in a 1-0 final over the Boston Blades.

Female enrollment in @USAHockey is going up

Recently, USA Hockey released their enrollment numbers for 2013. There was significant growth of women’s hockey, with registrations by female players up 2.33% from last year. (Overall growth fell in some states, such as the economically troubled Michigan.)

Both the Toronto Furies and the Boston Blades started out tentative.
