@blasterdarks: “happy birthday, leooooon-kun!~” ren wrapped his arms around leon, leaning in to kiss him once, twice, three times before pulling away. “i missed you!” of course he knew leon had to be away so they could prepare for the party, but it didn’t stop him from missing his boyfriend. “i was so lonely! i was surrounded by couples all day, i swear they were mocking me!” he whined, the same as always. but after a moment, his pout became a big grin. “come see your cake!” he practically dragged leon over to the table where the cake was. “do you like it? kai let me do the frosting! and writing too!” the writing on the cake was simply ‘you’re old :)’ (even though ren was older than him.) “oh and your present!!” he grabbed his gift and handed it to leon, “open it, open it!” inside was a silver chained necklace with a blue gemstone in the shape of a heart, surrounded by diamonds. “it made me think of you when i saw it!”

                                      leon returned the hug, letting ren kiss him. he would’ve kissed back, but he was too embarrassed to do so in public. he was already blushing ear to ear just from that. leon rolled his eyes at ren’s whining; that was enough to make the blush fade from his face. “ poor ren couldn’t see his boyfriend because he was doing something nice for him instead, how cruel. ” there was no bite to his remark as he let himself be dragged over to the cake aichi had mentioned. he’d heard kai toshiki was a great cook, so it should taste fine, but--

                                                        --of course ren had to add his own flair to it. leon sighed. commenting on it would give him even more satisfaction, so he was forced into silence. not that he could be annoyed for long; the fact that ren had gone to the effort of frosting a cake for him and now getting a present for him on his birthday ... leon couldn’t even pretend to be the least bit inconvenienced. 

                                                         “ ah ... ” a gust of wind blew through the necklace as he held it up to the light. it sparkled more as it moved at will of the brief blustering. he felt his face heat up again, not only because of the gift, but because of his now obvious reaction. “ it’s gorgeous. i can see into the depths of the ocean. ” he whispered, admiring the blue gemstone for a moment. then he turned around, unhooking the chain, before holding the two parts at the back of his neck. “ would you do the honors, ren? ”

@blasterblades: “leon-kun, happy birthday!” aichi said once more as he approached leon, a bright smile on his face. “i hope it’s alright we did this, i thought you would like it…!” he had suggested the idea of a surprise party to jillian and sharlene and they loved it. a big party like this was nice. q4, fukuhara, try3, and others had all come to celebrate. “toshiki-kun and i made the cake for you. ren-san frosted it and wrote on it. then, i hope you’ll like it!” he grabbed a present he set aside and held it out. “and i hope you’ll like this, too!” inside were newly released aqua force sleeves with new art of tetradrive on them.

                                    everyone worked hard for his sake, for just one day, even though it would all be thrown out in the end. knowing that, everyone pitched in just for this moment, so that leon would feel the love his friends and family felt for him.

                                   “ the wind is quite warm today, sendou. ” looking around the room, seeing all the smiles around him, a gentle breeze enveloped leon. he was sure jillian and sharlene felt it, too. it was a force, soft as it was, that warmed his heart, tugging a smile onto his own lips. 

                                   “ ah, you didn’t have to... ” the protest died in his mouth upon opening the gift, seeing the design on the sleeves. aqua force had gone from an almost extinct clan to a clan that was spreading across the world, earning enough fame for merchandise like this. “ ... tetradrive ... ” one of his avatars, which helped him fight against adversity, to rage an even fiercer wind when he was pushed against the wall. “ ... yes, a comforting breeze has enveloped this moment. ”

@blasterblades: a party had been planned in leon’s honor, set on the island that leon was renting. jillian and sharlene took care of keeping him occupied for the day, taking him out shopping. they had leon try on many outfits and when they noticed he liked a particular one, they bought it for him. “it’s your birthday, so let us spoil you for once, leon-sama!” was what jillian said when leon tried to object. they wanted to show how much he meant to them. he was like their big brother, he had always been watching over them. “try this one on too, leon-sama!” sharlene smiled and shoved yet another dress into leon’s hands.

after some time had passed, they headed back. aichi had texted jillian and let him know everything was ready. sharlene was excited for the party, but tried not to seem too excited (though it was hard to hide it). she just hoped leon didn’t pick up on it. when they made it back, sharlene practically rushed leon to open the door. when the door opened, a loud “happy birthday!” was heard from the many people inside, along with the popping of party poppers. “happy birthday, leon-sama! it’s time for your real birthday celebration!” jillian grinned and nudged him inside.

                                  leon always felt modest on his birthday -- he didn’t want people to go out of their way for him, especially not now when he was in the position to spoil himself ( not that he would ). on the other hand, jillian and sharlene always did whatever they could to celebrate leon’s birthday. they always worried about not doing enough, but the fact that they even remembered was more than enough for leon. still, he let them take him out shopping, let them treat him, knowing that they could afford it. he wouldn’t act spoiled, though; he’d just enjoy himself without asking for anything. window shopping was fun on its own, even though jillian and sharlene saw right through him and bought him things regardless. being the center of attention for something other than vanguard or the souryuu foundation was a nice change. 

                                                  he didn’t have a clue about a surprise party until he watched sharlene’s face grow more and more excited and she tried to hide her nervous energy. leon didn’t say anything for her and jillian’s sakes. leon opened the door at sharlene’s insistence, and even though he shouldn’t have been surprised at a surprise party he figured was happening, he found himself feeling giddy. “ ... thank you, all of you. ”

                               despite leon reciprocating his feelings, ren’s stomach was in knots. leon’s words made his heart race, but also felt like it was being stabbed. while ren had expected something like this to happen–leon saying they can’t be together–he hadn’t thought it would be like this. the fact that leon felt the same just made this hurt all the more. 

                                but he didn’t want things to end like this. he couldn’t let things end like this. “don’t…don’t say that–!” he dared to step closer to leon, closing the distance between them and pulling him into a hug. “if that were true, i wouldn’t be here. i wouldn’t keep coming here.” he had seen the real leon time and time again. leon let his guard down around ren, let himself be vulnerable. 

                                “i fell in love with you, souryu leon.” he pulls away from the hug so he can look at leon face-to-face. “and i don’t want to lose you. i can’t stand that thought.” simply rejecting him would hurt less than this. “i want to be with you. i want to be by your side.” he had been afraid to speak up before, afraid of ruining whatever this was between them.

                                  he leaned in and pressed a short, soft kiss to leon’s lips. “if you really don’t want to be with me, that’s fine. i’ll leave you alone. i’ll never bother you again if that’s what you want. you can push me away, and you’ll never hear from me again. i promise.” he forced the words out, trying to will back tears. “but if you want me to stay, i will. because i want to be here. with you. there’s nowhere i’d rather be.”

                                      the hug came so suddenly that leon couldn’t react for a moment. slowly, he wrapped his arms around ren, not daring to hold onto him too tightly. it was so easy for ren to say all of this. ren was good at saying all the right things. and even though ren had seen leon’s walls beginning to crack, he had only seen glimpses of his true self. the one who was burdened-- who burdened himself-- with the justice of his clan, his family. with spreading that justice throughout the world, no matter what-- no matter who-- the cost. 

                                                      even your clan, i did to it what was done to mine without a second thought. leon was dangerous. he had to be dangerous, for the sake of protecting what he was fated-- what he chose to protect. he chose to protect aqua force. he chose to protect the souryu name, and all those who bore it. jillian and sharlene most of all, and all others who were looking to him as a role model, a savior. 

                                                      souryu leon was a force. he was the eye of the storm that took down those who threatened his justice. he was a living, raging typhoon that took all his enemies to their graves. someone who proudly carried that existence and carried those burdens didn’t have the right to be called a ‘ human. ’ even now, with such a simple feeling, leon could only pull ren further and further until he drowned. 

                                                       “ how can you say that, ” leon whispered, swallowing a lump in his throat that formed a biting breeze against him, slowly growing stronger as he spoke each word. “ why would you want to stay? why would you commit yourself to me? i ... i’m -- ”

                                                        ( undeserving, selfish, unrelenting, dangerous, inhuman, terrifying, terri -- )

                                                        he bit his lip as realization hit, the wind stopping abruptly before picking up in a gust around them, blowing papers through the room. the wind, being a part of himself, was the only thing keeping him standing upright.

                                                        “ -- terrified. ”

                                  when leon spoke, ren opened his mouth to answer, but stopped himself. he shouldn’t interrupt him. as much as he wanted to interject, leon deserved to speak his mind. it seemed he had been holding this back for quite some time after all. it hurt to hear leon say these things, hurt that he made leon feel this way when it wasn’t his intention. he constantly pushed boundaries, he was never one for personal space after all, but he was even more careless with leon. he liked leon, and let himself be more affectionate with him. he thought it was fine.

                                     he liked to tease leon too, but he never meant it as a way to hurt him. he just never knew how to say his feelings. leon had so much responsibility. he had so much he had to do, so a relationship was probably urealistic. instead he pushed his luck with all of this until it boiled over. that was all his fault. 

                                       when he saw leon’s face, his heart ached even more. it really was horrible of him to act this way. he wanted to reach out and wipe his tears away, but he stood still. he didn’t want to make anything worse. “i do like you.” his voice is soft. “i don’t do this with other people…and i know you’re not a plaything.” but he had made leon feel as much. “you’re important to me. someone i don’t want to lose. i didn’t realize how you felt…” 

                                        after he says his piece, he should leave leon alone. he didn’t want to hurt him anymore. “i…i like you a lot. i have for awhile.” sometime during the time when he was getting over kai, he started to fall for leon too. then, he only had feelings for leon. “i’m sorry, i was insensitive and didn’t think about what i was doing. or how you must feel…” he never should have let this happen. “i’m sorry, leon-kun.” 

                                        leon tensed more the longer ren spoke. he felt his heartbeat pick up tremendously. why was ren doing this to him? saying all the things leon wanted to hear. validating leon’s own feelings that he’d come dangerously close to admitting. unless this was a ploy, too. but ren’s face was completely serious. remorseful, even. did ren actually mean what he was saying? leon didn’t know. he was too distrustful, too self-conscious. no one could truly like him in such a way, and he couldn’t trust anyone that much when he had his clan to look after ( he was too young to be so cynical ). 

                                                      “ ... thank you, ren ... but it’s not like i’ve been innocent, either. ” he forced out. ren hadn’t been the only one initiating these encounters; there had been a fair share of times when leon had kissed ren first. but his feelings kept festering and they were going to explode. he had to push ren away so leon couldn’t ruin him, or his clan, or himself again. 

                                                       leon seemed to deflate then, knowing what he had to do next. this was where all their flirting had to stop, where everything had to end. he couldn’t keep messing around with ren. it was dangerous. whether or not ren realized it, leon was wrapped around his finger. somewhere along the line, he had fallen hard for the enigma that was suzugamori ren. but his title, his responsibilities, his job, the hope of his people-- they all told him to break his own heart.

                                                      “ i ... i have feelings for you. feelings that i can’t have. ” he tried to smile, but it was forced, bitter with the words it was about to form. “ i want to be with you ... i’ve wanted to be with you. but i can’t. it’s too painful to go on like this, but it’s too painful to let go. i’m the one who should be sorry, really. i’m sorry i took this out on you. you should ... go home, get as far away from me as possible, so you can be with someone that doesn’t come with ... all of this. i know that the real me is not someone that you want to deal with. ”

                                 ren’s grin turned to a pout when leon moved to go past him. “but leon-kuuuuuun!” he whined, following behind him. “just one kiss! just a tiiiiny one?” he tried to bargain with him. as he drew closer to leon, he felt the wind surrounding him. he had learned that this sort of thing happened when leon’s emotions were too much. had he gone too far?

                                  “you know i’m just kidding, right? i was just joking…” he said, an unspoken apology laced in his words. he hoped it would help calm down leon. perhaps he shouldn’t have kissed leon at all, even if they weren’t real kisses. even if he wanted leon to kiss him, this probably wasn’t the best way to go about it. “are you okay?”

                                  leon stood frozen in place, hands clenched at his sides, nails digging into the palms of his hands. calm down, calm down, calm down. you can’t lose your composure any more than you already have. no matter how angry he was at ren for being so nonchalant, he didn’t want to hurt him. he wanted the opposite. he wanted to hug him and kiss him-- which was the problem. ren didn’t want that-- not in the way leon did. why would he? leon was a mess, barely holding onto pieces of himself while he tried to shoulder the burdens of his clan. it wasn’t fair that ren could just do that, then apologize like he’d accidentally stepped on his foot and have it all be fine. it was never like that for him, always walking a tightrope to make sure he said the right thing, did the right thing, kept the illusion legacy of the souryu child, kept his clan from falling into insignificance again. 

                                                   “ why ... why do you insist on doing these things to me? holding me and kissing me and teasing me like we’re lovers. do you use everyone else as your plaything, or is it just me? ...   ” he spoke through clenched teeth, forcing himself to keep is tone level. “ i’m tired of being disrespected, being seen as an object, being put on a pedestal ... i thought you respected me as an equal, but you just keep doing things like this, and what else am i supposed to think? i - it’s always ... it’s always a joke to you, or something we just never talk about anymore ... do you even like me? ”

                                                        leon turned to face ren, ignoring the tears that burned his eyes. the wind had completely stopped. “ i’m not a toy. i’m the souryu child. i’m leon souryu! a - and if you don’t like me, then fine, just please stop twisting my heart like this! i can’t take it anymore! ”

"leon-kun, guess what day it is!" ren didn't wait for an answer and kissed leon's cheek. "it's kiss day!" he grinned, then kissed leon's other cheek. "you should kiss me too!" he tapped his cheek expectantly. "or if you're feeling bold, you can give me a real kiss!" it was easy to joke about this because he didn't expect leon to actually do it. though in truth, he wanted leon to kiss him. "i'm waiting!"

                                     “ r - ren...?! you can’t just--! ” he fumbled with his words, but it was already too late. ren had already kissed him. on his cheeks, sure, but it was still two kisses. two kisses that he couldn’t mean in any way other than to tease leon. still, he couldn’t help his face heating up. he hated how ren could get him so easily flustered, especially knowing ren didn’t feel anything remotely like that towards leon. he hated being played for the fool. he hated falling for it every time, falling for ren. he pushed past ren, walking ahead of him to get to his room. he had to cool down.

                                                    “ some made up holiday doesn’t give you an excuse to kiss me! and it doesn’t give me an excuse to kiss you! ” leon could feel the wind beginning to whistle through his ears, could feel it all around, a sure sign that he was stressing himself far too much over this. “ wait there forever! it’s not happening! ”

                                 “i’m your cute and sexy maid, master! why don’t you appreciate me?” ren pouted. “i spent a lot of time working on this, you know! i looked at a lot of cute maid dresses, and spent a long time on my makeup!” though he always spent a lot of time on that. he smiles once more as he stepped closer once more, draping his arms over leon’s shoulders. “i did all of this for you, leon-sama! the least you can do is tell me i look good.” it was so easy to tease leon. he couldn’t resist. though at the same time, apart of him hoped that leon may truly like him, instead of it just being general embarrassment. he wanted leon’s love and attention. he tucked a stray hair behind leon’s ear, “so what do you think?”

                               leon tensed when ren draped his arms over him, hyper-aware of how close they were. he felt his heart race even more, his face get even hotter -- they were too close. since ren had come into leon’s life, he’d been roped into all sorts of things he never would have imagined himself in. things that made him strangely happy. but happiness wasn’t something he had time for, wasn’t something that he was just given -- he had to earn it. he had to work harder. 

                                              “ i -- i ... ” ren was expecting a response, but leon couldn’t form the words. his mouth was dry, he couldn’t even look at ren. if this was anyone else, he’d have no problem just kicking them out, but ren --

                                              -- then he felt ren’s fingers brush against him, and all his thoughts vanished. he glanced up at ren, taking in his bright eyes and that lopsided grin. ren certainly had spent a while doing his makeup, and his outfit -- leon couldn’t think about that. as it was already ... “ ... i think you’re beautiful. ”

ren had been waiting for leon to come back, idly playing on his phone. he put on this maid outfit, and leon wasn't even here to see it yet! why were magallanica meetings always so long? he was so bored. fortunately, he didn't have to wait long because a few moments later, he heard the door open. ren jumped up and headed to the door. "welcome home, master! i missed you~" he walked up to him, daring to stand close to him. "how can your sexy maid serve you, master?"

                                   the first thing leon saw upon opening the door was something he never thought he’d see in his life. suzugamori ren, standing only centimeters away from him, in a maid outfit. his face heated up and he pushed ren back, jumping back a bit himself. “ wh - what are you doing?! i - i’m not your-- ugh, i can’t deal with you! go put your clothes back on! ”

the second the meeting ends, ren sweeps leon off his feet and into his arms. "okay, time to go!" he smiles, speaking in his usual singsong tone. in truth, he's a bit worried about leon. he can see the bags under leon's eyes, and can't help but wonder when he last had a good night sleep. he yawns and it's loud and obnoxious. "it's naptime. leon-kun, let's take a nice long nap together! you know, one time i napped outside with a cat. it was really nice! we should see if we can find any cats."

                                  “ r - ren! ” leon doesn’t have time to even pick up his papers before ren picks him lifted him off the ground. despite ( or because of ) the shock, leon ends up clinging to ren’s shirt like a lifeline. he can’t remember ever being in a situation like this, after all. that’s why his face is heating up and his heart is beating so fast. 

                                                 “ now isn’t the time for this! it isn’t professional! ” he protests, though the idea of a nap isn’t so bad ... especially if ren’s there, and before he’s aware of it, he’s leaning his head on ren’s chest. it must be exhaustion. there’s no other reason he would feel so comfortable. he just really needed rest. it has nothing to do with ren. in fact, ren doing this is just annoying and troublesome for him. even if he finds it harder and harder to keep his eyes open.

                                                 “ don’t go too far, okay? they might need us again soon. ”

"and then he was like '’i'd like you to clean the mess you made of my home.' he's SO mean to me. he wouldn't even play along!" ren pouts, his head in leon's lap. "isn't that mean, leon-kun? i even made dinner for him, and he doesn't appreciate me at all! kai is so cruel... "

                                   “ he was probably upset that you were making fun of his crush on aichi. ” leon can never tell if ren does these things to get under someone’s skin or if he really doesn’t realize the consequences of his actions. he spares a glance at ren, which, as expected, leads to no answers. “ ... i can’t blame him, honestly. you do make a mess of the kitchen. ”
