Three hiphop albums I would take with me to deserted island:
A Tribe Called Quest: Midnight Marauders
Wu-Tang Clan: 36
Nas: Illmatic
It is crazy to think that the first two albums actually came out on the same day Nov 9th 1993 (Illmatic came around six months later). And that is over 25 years ago. Which means that 93-94 was the best time for hiphop. And that I am starting be really old.
This is interesting mix, putting wu-vocals to Midnight Marauders beats. Works suprisingly well!
Again quality anniversary mix from Chris Read. Mecca and The Soul Brother is a flawed classic and has some fillers (as a whole I prefer Main Ingredient) but naturally the best songs are best that Pete Rock has ever done.
Rap Dads is an ongoing film photo series and hand written account by yours truly and dads who rap, produce, and work in the hip hop industry.Over the past year I've traveled to the homes of individuals in the hip hop world and photographed them with their children on film, had the children dra
Rappers are getting older
Art of Rhyming: Lyrical Breakdown Artist: Eric B. & Rakim Song: Eric B. is President This week, 30 years ago, hip-hop music changed for good. While it would be easy to list the top 5 Rakim songs, or do another “goat” listing with him at the top, I thought it more important to breakdown…
Good article showcasing how Rakim was ahead of his time: true pioneer.
Das EFX was quite gimmicky, but still had stellar songs in all their three first albums. The debut album was of course the best and kickstarted the whole diggidy craze.
The most trusted voice in music.
Posthumous review of Supreme Clientel
One of the all-time best jazz albums and one of the most sampled as well. Great mix by Chris Read
My man Stoney took over the tables once again. Here's what you get when you mix beats rocked by Lord Quas, Tha Dogg Pound, and many blunts.
Smokey mix comprising mostly of slowed down G-Funk classics
Laidback LA jam from Berner & B-Real
The best video of the year. Young Thug goes on meta level.
Listening to the new Lox album got me into rabbithole of old Ruff Ryders -songs. This party staple from DMX´s second album set Woodstock on fire. I think we sometimes forget how huge DMX was on his prime.
This Savage-beef is reaching Inception-level heights. There is no only 21, 22 but also 23 Savage
The New Lox album is quite underwhelming (no surprise there), but this Dj Premier -produced song got my head bopping.
Rest in peace, ODB
Although new De La Soul -album was a disappointment, I can always go back to their four first albums (which are not in Spotify or other streaming services, but that is different story). Good short documentary of those great times.
Nice vibe on this one. Oakland goes to London.
