Yo, while I fully don't agree nor support a lot of decisions Sophie has made, I find it interesting that so much of the fandom is coming for her when everyone in the history of this series make awful choices.
All this Sophie hate is continuously eye opening and reinforcing how color struck and masc/androgynous adverse a lot of the queer female community is even tho most pretend that's not root of many issues
Sophie is complicated character that keeps fucking up but ALL the adult characters are complicated fuckups:
Bette: Serial cheater/liar, emotionally cut off
Dani: Emotionally cut off, emotional cheater, conflict avoidant
Sophie: Cheater, controlled by emotions
Shane: Cheater, left her fiancé at the alter and went on a sex and drug binge
Alice: outed a man because she felt she had the right to
Finley: Under developed sense of maturity, destructive coping mechanisms
Golnar/Gigi: Is perfect
Micah: Is perfect, character is underdeveloped
Most of this cast of characters are extremely flawed human beings and we've been watching their, mostly misguided/bad/very human, decision making for almost 20 years and I don't recall the same amount of vitriol for any other character.
Let's be honest, the show is sex filled soap opera and that's why most of us keep coming back because all of the characters are messy
