the invisible bat
the justice league arrives at the hidden meditation cavern, whispering like criminals who just realized they broke into a cathedral.
…but bruce is gone.
batgirl whispers, worried:
“he… he’s not here. did he… leave again?”
flash whispers, panicking:
“i think he disappeared. like… poof. gone. he just… vanished.”
green lantern, scanning with his ring:
“infrared, x-ray, thermal… nothing. He is… literally invisible?”
wonder woman folds her arms:
“he’s probably meditating somewhere. Or testing us.”
alfred’s voice, calm as ever, floats in:
“Sir is not missing. He is… camouflaged. Try not to panic, or breathe too loudly. I cannot babysit gods.”
the JL searches everywhere: behind stalagmites, under ledges, behind glowing moss—bruce is everywhere and nowhere.
batgirl whispers to flash:
“he… he’s literally blending in with the shadows. I don’t… i can’t see him.”
flash, whispering back:
“i thought he was half naked… but i can’t even see him now. what kind of training is this??”
green lantern mutters:
“he’s mocking us. This is clearly a test of patience and ego. And he’s winning.”
suddenly—crack.
bruce steps forward. Shirtless. Muscles gleaming, perfectly poised, standing on a rock ledge like he was never invisible. Shadow and glow-worm light cling to him like he’s part of the cave itself.
he speaks softly, terrifyingly calm:
“you were looking for me.”
batgirl whispers, flushed:
“he… appeared out of nowhere…”
wonder woman whispers:
“he is a living embodiment of stealth.”
flash whispers:
“i hate him and love him and fear him all at once.”
green lantern whispers:
“he disappeared for like… ten minutes and came back like… a shadow god.”
alfred, voice dry:
“Sir, now that you are visible again, perhaps you could sit and meditate… on being seen.”
bruce folds his legs, eyes closed, serene. Half-naked. Absolutely terrifying in calmness and power.
the JL stands frozen, whispering, because nothing else can be said.
