He snorted. This guy could think whatever he thought of him. He knew nothing about him. He had a backbone, itâs just wasnât warranting to pay him back. He wasnât some pushover either.
He shrugged casually âMaybe It is my problem. Doesnât mean Iâll fix it. Shit happens and life goes on. I do fight back when I have too. Most people have an bone to pick with me. It comes with the gig. Not surprisingly.â
He raied a brow âDid your mother taught you that along with your potty mouth? And I thought my brother had an mouth of an sailor.â He chuckled. âGood. I wasnât planning on fighting you either. I canât imagine coming somewhere where you had to fight to live. Donât you ever get tired of fighting?â
at least the guy proved he did have a backbone, by the way he handled the situation. usually, at this point, most would get nervous as hell, knees bucking and all. but this bastard was calm and composed. it was rare to come across people like this.
as a smirk carved upon darkened lips, a harsh chuckle escaped from the large captain.    âAlright, alright. I get it, bastard.â      the bastard even decided to explain how it was a common occurrence and how he was only being logical about it. his behavior reminded him of his right hand man, killerâ the massacre soldier. he was always the voice of reason, the calmer one.
another chuckle parted from kid, abrupt and loud, startling passersby.    âPotty mouth? Canât believe thereâs a bastard alive that even uses that. Iâve always talked like this since I could remember.â      kids grew up pretty fast when they roamed around the streets, homeless. he couldnât even remember the faces of his parents.
âTired of fighting?!â      was this bastard for real?! the question seemed completely ludicrous.    âHell no. Thereâs always a never-ending fight in the sea where Iâm from. Itâs either you fight or you can kiss your ass goodbye. There ainât no time to be kissing anyoneâs ass or cowering back in fear. Iâll die before I do any of that crap.â
Sometimes the job required to be calm and composed, it was hard enough to try to talk to wary people in order to get the full story on what they saw and experienced whether or not they believed in the supernatural. He didnât scare easily if it was the guyâs goal to intimidate him.
He crossed his arms over his chest as he listened to him talk though it was kind of hard not to listen when every other word was some curse word. He chuckled as well though he didnât really understood what was so funny. âMy name is not bastard, by the way. Itâs Sam.â He corrected him.
He shrugged casually âWould cursing like an sailor be an better alternative then? Then thereâs still hope to clean out your mouth.â It wasnât like he had an problem with it. Dean cursed like an sailor all the time though he was sure it would be better to speak with an filter, for the sake of everybodyâs ears.
He couldnât imagine what sort of childhood this guy mustâve had. It mustâve been tough on him. He raised an brow at the mention of the sea. Maybe he really was an sailor, after all. âStory of my life. You canât always please somebody, thereâll always be that one person that surely hates your guts and has it out for you. Breaking your back only to be back-stabbed wouldnât solve anything. Is that the only thing to do out on the open sea?â
It was the least he could do to help her out. What kind of person would he be if he just passed on by an person in need? He would try his best with whatever she needed. He smiled gently âItâs no problem. Only right to help out an stranger, right?â
He nodded. âWell, for me. A while is about six or seven months staying in here. It isnât too bad. Thereâs never an dull moment.â He gestured towards their surroundings. He waited for her to gather her bearings before touching her shoulder comfortingly. He could imagine how overwhelming this mustâve been for her. âA home away from home.â He answered honestly âBut to others, it could be like hell.â Not that they would know what hell is like.
He was surprised by how quick she bounced from being serious to bright and cheerful. Not that he was complaining. Plenty of other things to talk about. . With their arms linked together, she lead him over to whatever the crowds seemed to be going. He grinned âAlright. If you have any questions, donât be afraid to ask me.â Â
âI can only imagine. This place really doesnât seem like the type to allow normality.â Not that she knew what normal was⊠her entire life up until this point hadnât been normal. Perhaps she wouldnât feel too out of place after all. âIt depends how you interpret Hell.â Her tone became rather sombre but she wouldnât let that ruin her mood. âMaybe for some, this place seems more of a blessing.â
âIt seems youâve been here for quite a while!â A simple observation but there was a question on her mind she couldnât ignore. âSam⊠I do have one question.â She glanced up at him. Well, he said she could ask, soâŠÂ âWhat of your loved ones back home. Do they know youâre here?â
He actually laughed at her comment. It was funny to him. He grinned âItâs funny, Itâs being here that I finally have an sense of normalcy. My life back home was an mess but here? Nobody here knows me and I can lead the life that I wanted. This my home.â Maybe thatâs what they had in common. They werenât normal.
He hummed in thought âGood point. I can imagine what some of their worlds is like. Having to fight to survive and the like, supernatural beings.â
He nodded âYup. You have an good eye.â It would seem she had an eye for details, doesnât she? He glanced down curiously at her, he would try to his best to provide answers though he shouldâve expected that one. He sighed softly âWell- Yeah, they know. Actually theyâre already here. A close friend of mine. I saw my brother here awhile ago but it was an brief meeting and he acted pretty damn odd. What about you?â He wouldâve loved to get know her side of the story if she was truly Illyaâs mother.
Was the guy expecting him to blow up? He didnât have the quick trigger temper of his father, Dean was more of the ask questions later and fight type rather than being logical and actually thinking ahead of the situation. Sure, he had his moments but those were more of him being pushed to his limits. Heâd rather solve a problem with his brain than fists but it looks like this guy had other ideas.
Was this guy actually looking for an reason to fight? He was sorry to disappoint but he would have no such luck with him.
He raised an brow at the repeated yelling. He waited for him to finished yelling before he spoke âDo you have an problem with me? I already apologized. I wasnât aware I was staring directly at you.â He chuckled as he shook his head âNot always. I donât even put up with my own brotherâs crap. The fights usually come to me. I donât look for them or will I start them. What good would fighting do? Iâm sorry if thatâs what you wanted but if you go to sector three, youâll find what youâre looking for.â
it wasnât that he had a personal problem with the bastard. no, it was more like genuine curiosity carried with some annoyance. curious about why the hell someone would honestly just let themselves be yelled at like that yet not do shit about it? then again, it wasnât entirely too surprising. some people, even back in his own world, just didnât have any backbone and let themselves be walked over on.Â
     this probably was no different.Â
"Maybe thatâs your problem. That you donât fight back and because of that fights go to you.â      the captain was less infuriated now, but still annoyed, not like before. once he simmers down, heâs able to have a civilized conversations. for how long? well, that all depends on what the bastard would say next. he did have the tendency to blow back up again after something trivial. all due to being short-tempered.Â
"I ainât gonna fight you. Wouldnât even be worth it. Fighting is a way to get what you wantâ at least where I come from. Itâs the only way to really survive there."      such was the way of the pirate. it was a never-ending fightâ and he wasnât complaining at all. he welcomed it, even if at times some people were aggravating as hell.

The corners of his mouth twitched as he held back an laugh. He definitely didnât want to be rude to her but after the way Illya described the way she drive, she has much to learn.
He tilted his head âNever? first time for everything, right? The train comes every 30 minutes, so you should have the chance to catch it if you want.â He left her be with her train of thought.
He noted just how small her hand was, compared to his own calloused one. everything about her gave off this motherly feeling but perhaps, he was reading too much into it. He carefully shook her hand before releasing, stuffing his hands in his coat pockets.
He nodded. He felt bad that she was here instead of her home. âWell, Welcome to Hive City. You can ask me anything, Iâve been here awhile.â He smiled reassuringly at her âSame here.â
He grinned. âWhatever you prefer, Iri.â Her name had an nice ring to it. He nodded in agreement. This one time he didnât mind an detour from his books. âI could give you an tour if you like? Plenty of sights to see and things to do.â
âAlright, thank you! Iâll remember that.â These were the kinds of things sheâd have to keep in mind now that she was here; train times⊠even bus times should she ever need to catch one. Sheâd have to find out what sector had what, where stores were, were public places were⊠she had much to learn but she was lucky to find someone as kind as Sam to help her out. Sheâd definitely remember him should she find herself in a spot of difficulty.
âOh, youâve been here a while?â She repeated, a questioning tone lacing her voice. âHow long is a while?â She took her hand back and tucked her silvery hair behind her ear as she glanced around. âWhat kind of place is this?â She asked. âThe city as a whole, I mean. IâŠâ She paused for a moment, her expression turning slightly more serious. âThereâs something strange about this place and I canât quite work out what it is.â The fact she had woken up in a strange lab with a man on a screen was indication enough but she still wasnât fully understanding of her situation. Reluctantly, she had to admit to herself that she felt very unsettled. Especially as she was here alone. However, Sam seemed trustworthy enough so even if Saber wasnât here⊠maybe sheâd be alright.Â
âA tour would be wonderful!â She agreed with a light clap of her hands. The bright tone to her voice returned at the suggestion. Perhaps she could work out why this place was so strange one she wandered a little. With a slight spring in her step, she approached him and linked her arm with his and lead him to where the crowds seemed to be heading. âWeâll start over here!â
He wondered what made the man so bitter towards monsters? They didnât ask to be created as monsters. Maybe he was still naive with an ray of hope still in him. He always tries to see the good in people even if there is none.
He licked his lips in thought. What if John had a point? Being in the life always ended in some grizzly ways. Dying young or growing just old enough to die in the line of work. There was no escape from it.
The angels held little regard to what wouldâve happened to the earth during the apocalypse but he stopped that, didnât he?
He took in an deep breath before finding the courage to speak. âSaving people, hunting things. Itâs the family business. If nobody else hunts the things that goes bump in the night. Who will? I didnât want this life anymore then you do. But you have to suck it up and accept responsibility. So No, I donât think you really know.â
He sighed. He didnât blame Gabriel but the way he handled the situation wasnât exactly helpful either. âI think you got Lucifer and Gabriel mixed up. While he shouldnât have run away to earth and becoming an entirely new entity during the fighting. What more can you do while the people you love fight? Youâre about half right though. Itâs an sad reality. I really though Angels cared about us. We;re the sheep and theyâre the shepherds, right? I think what went wrong was when God went AWOL and Heaven became an mess. They are pricks but you know what? My one true friend is an Angel and he hasnât let me down yet.â
He raised an brow. âYou made deals with the devil?â He heard of crossroad demons but making deals with the actual devil? How odd. He snorted âIâm not one to trust him either. What did you do to pay him back?â Should he out-right tell him? He was sure the man would find out one way or another. So no keeping secrets from him.
He rubbed his hands together. Almost as if just speaking about was painful. âDid you know that in order for an Angel to possess an human they need your permission? Those possessed by angels are called vessels. And for for Archangels, they needed special vessels. Guess who was the lucky winner to be Luciferâs vessel? He taunted me at every corner. He refused to take âNoâ as an answer. He was going to destroy the world if I kept saying âNoâ. I did what I had to do to save the world.â Â
âĄâ His brows furrowed, but heâd listen. John was FORCED to save people, heâd tried his best to use his powers for good, but demons had a way of changing that â he had no faith in them, he knew they were all just using mankind as pawns in a game. There was an inevitable end, and he had tried to prevent that â oh heâd TRIED. Sucking up and taking responsibility - heâd heard that, again and again. In fact, Batman had given him the same lecture just weeks ago. It forced him to lean back and place a cigarette in his mouth, holding his palm to it as a small ember lit from his hands and allowed the smoke to waft away. He exhaled, tilting his head back to avoid spewing smoke in the boys direction, though instead of a normal stream it took the form of a skull. âThey made a bet amongst themselves, kid. Either way, the earth and humanity is fucked. Itâs just a matter of when⊠I delay it, do what we can, but âow far can we push it back for?âÂ
Manny was his friend too â but all angels ended up hurting humans, it was just in their nature. He returned a reply in the form of a sceptical glance.Â
âWhat did I do to pay âim back? Gave âim part of me soul. Heâs got me, when I die I canât go to âeaven, if I had a bloominâ chance in the first place. But he thought that what I âate the most is being âere⊠Soâ he kept me in this hell because when I was down below I took the piss. Iâm cursed, mate.â
Now that was interesting. âI know about hosts and vessels, love. So yer a pure boy, got yeself an angel and played host. Lucifer mustâve âad a bloody field day with you⊠But you beat âim, so good on ya. You make a deal to save yeself?â
In an way, Sam couldâve said the same thing about himself. His father raised his only sons into the life, practically forced into it just for the one goal to hunt down the demon that took away their mother. He knew from an young age this life wasnât normal and he didnât want it, he questioned it at every chance he had but was silenced and was told to follow orders like an good little soldier. With his father gone now, he finally understood why but it didnât change his upbringing at all.
He sat up as well, mostly to straighten up from slouching over for so long but just to study the man. They were so alike but yet had different experiences. Unfortunately, not everybody was an open book but they gotten this far, right? He watched the wafting smoke, glad for the smoke not being blown in his general direction. Though the skull was questionable, he said nothing about that.
He raised an brow âA bet? Of when the earth is supposedly having an countdown to self-destructing? Thereâs enough doomsday sayers as is. I have faith in humanity and while we may not like our jobs, we delay it long enough for people to see the light at the end of the tunnel.â He wasnât one to preach to the choir but this was he truly felt.
He knew Castiel had done some things based of off orders, neither of them were innocent but he had found an friend in him. He still had faith in him and maybe that was his downfall. Cas couldnât even hurt a fly let alone an human
He winced at his explanation âThatâs one hell of an price tag but at least youâre not walking around soulless. You just have an missing piece.â He joked. He had seen heaven, total accident but it wasnât somewhere he would want to go until it was time but even then, he wasnât sure if he had a place there as well. He waved off his skeptic glance âYouâre not missing much. Heaven, you know. It isnât what you think it is. I saw it, once. Total accident. Did you know that everybody has their own little piece of heaven? But Hell isnât much better either. Brimstone and torture 24/7.â He chuckled. Damn, now he was craving an smoke as well even if he wasnât much an smoker himself but it was something to busy his mouth with. He just settled on an toothpick, chewing on it.
He gave him an skeptical look of his own âDo you hate being here? Earth, I mean.â Though he couldâve also been hinting at something else. He laughed. John was certainly something else. âYou donât know cursed until you have an demon blood addiction.â
He shook his head âIâm far from pure and I know that. Nothing can wash away my sins. I believe me, being an meat puppet for an angel is not an honor.â He nodded âYou got that right. but Iâll never forget the bloody sight of my own brotherâs face being mashed to bits by my own fists.â He shuddered but he did beat him in the end, so thatâs what counted.
He hesitated, just silently chewing on the toothpick but when he spoke, he sounded so hollow and empty. Just tired. âHa. I wish. There was no way out of that crappy situation. It was going to be me or some poor sap. Actually, he was already using somebody else but that vessel was falling apart at the seams. I suppose Angels are able to use substitute vessels other than their true ones.â But he was straying away from his point âThere was only one way to stop him. Send him back into the cage where he was originally imprisoned and hide the key. And thatâs how I jump into the pit and spent over an year stuck in the cage sandwiched between Lucifer and Micheal.â Fun times were had.
During his stay in the city, he has met strange and new people. All from different walks of life. Some had magic or abilities that he had never seen before or even thought it would exist. It always pushed him to learn more about it. The world wasnât so small anymore.
He knew staring was rude but he still did it anyways. Mostly when he was thinking and staring out into space, sometimes out of fascination to watch the world go by him. He knew it was common sense to know that most people didnât appreciate being stared at. So when he was caught doing so, he was quick with an apology.
it shouldâve came as no surprise to him when he was called out on it but what was he not expecting was the language thrown at him. Geez, and he thought Dean had an potty mouth. He smiled sheepishly when he was caught red-handed. âItâs nothing at all. Iâm sorry. I didnât mean to stare.â Did he really had an dumb look on his face? Â
well, that definitely was not the reaction he was expecting. usually his terrible mannerisms managed to set people off, which usually broke out into a verbal fight before quickly skipping to him beating the dumbass to a bloody pulp. yet, here was this stupid looking bastard, smiling at him and actually apologizing for calling him out on the whole staring too long issue. he wasnât sure if he should be more angry at the bastard being docile and easygoing or the fact that the bastard didnât yell back at him.Â
the uncertainty did manage to put him further into a sour mood, which caused the bulky captain to click his tongue.Â
"What the hell is your problem??!â      he repeated, this time it was in regards to the guy taking his yelling like it wasnât a big deal and was actually being the bigger person out of the two.    "You always take crap from people without even putting up a fight?â
Her tantrum soon faded as soon as he expressed missing someone he was evidently close to. âItâs not sappy. You lose someone youâre close to, you miss them. Thatâs called being human.â She offered a small smile. âIâm sorry that person is no longer hereâŠ?â She said in an almost questioning tone. Did he mean someone he met here or was it someone from back home. Regardless, she understood how he felt. She too missed people from back home and here in the city. âIf it helps, I know what youâre going through. I grew close to this guy here⊠His name was Shirou, I met him when I was wandering around lost in sector one, I think. He helped me out and ever since we were good friends! I havenât seen him for a really long time so Iâm assuming he left. I hope heâs happy too.â
However, her sympathy was short lived. âMouse? Watch it buddy, Iâll watersmack you right in the face, I wonât even hesitate.â As if to back up her threat, the water orb increased in size and it held still in the air. With a flick of her wrist, she could easily send it flying right at him. The look in those cyan hues only proved she was deadly serious. With a huff and a slight pout, she returned to playing around with the liquid mass. âYeah, you should be scared. I can control fire, earth and air too. If I donât watersmack you, watch I donât throw fireball at you. Or even a rock. Maybe Iâll send a blast of wind at you. Who knows, depends on my mood.â She shrugged, casting him a narrowed stare. âItâs not alchemy⊠itâs an ability people in my world are born with. You just have to learn how to use it.â
At least now he knew that she had an short fuse. How old was she? A bit old to throwing tantrums, wasnât she? But at least she understood him, everybody has somebody that they miss back home or here in the city . He offered her an small smile back âYouâre right. It canât be right helped.â At her questioning tone, he offered his explanation. âOh! They were somebody that I knew here. You knew Shirou too? I wasnât particularly close to him but I was fond of him. i was more closer to his sister, honestly. Sometimes I wonder if it was my fault if they left.â
He covered an laugh behind his hand at her disapproval of her nickname. he reached over to ruffle up her hair. She reminded him a little of Dean. âAw. You didnât like that? I thought it was fitting! Or do you prefer shorty?â Normally he wouldnât be so teasing but it was an nice lift off his shoulders to not think about it. He chuckled âI thought you just said you had to earn back those abilities? Iâm afraid you might have to wait to beat me with your all mighty elements.â he looked her right in the eye, daring her to splash him. Soon enough, she backed down. âEverybody is born with this ability then? Sounds like an interesting world.â

He couldnât very well turned her away. Not when she was just as connected to Illya as he was. Itâd be like walking away from her. Hopefully she didnât notice the look on his face but if she did, he would play it off.
He moved over to her side to read the tiny slip of paper. He nodded âYup. Not very far. Itâs about an 30 minute train or car ride there.â He waved her off âItâs no problem. Take all the time you need. Weâre in no big hurry, right?â He smiled gently at her as he held out his hand towards her. âYou must be new here then.â Funny how once Illya showed him the ropes, now it was his turn.
Ah- She wasnât Illya then. He wouldnât deny he felt an slimmer of disappointment but perhaps, this woman was related to her? âPlease to meet you, Iris. If thatâs okay to say? Iâm Sam.âÂ
âOh, Iâve never taken the train before⊠I do like to drive, though. I wonder if I can get a car hereâŠâ She trailed off, a hand placed to her chin in thought. That would make things much easier, especially if she got lost more than once. However, that was a worry for another day⊠right now, her priority was finding this sector two. Luckily, the stranger had provided her with positive information. âIâm glad Iâm not too far away!â She added with a smile. Her own gloved hand clasped his in a gentle hand shake before releasing it as she nodded at his question. âI arrived here just a little while ago. Needless to say Iâm still very much confused by this place. Iââ She stopped short. She wouldnât go into too much detail just yet. She didnât even know him! âIâm not used to large cities.â That should suffice and besides, it wasnât exactly a lie.Â
The nickname caused her smile to soften. âIris is fine⊠or perhaps even Iri, I do not mind either way. Itâs nice to meet you, Sam. Youâre right, I donât suppose there is a rush! It would be nice to look around a little too, wouldnât it?âÂ
For all his time in the city, there was always something new to see or somebody to meet. He was always on the hunt for an library, his home away from home. He imagined a person not used to the technology and the new sight would experience an pretty mean culture shock.
He hummed as he stood on an crosswalk, waiting for the light to change. Across the street was an bookstore and it had his name on it. Just as the light had chaned and him getting ready to cross it, he felt an small tap on his shoulder. Curious to know who couldâve approached him, he turned to face the stranger only to swallow an lump in his throat. He had to take an double take. This was no coincidence that this woman had an similar appearance to Illya but he really had his doubts.
He smiled politely âOf course. Iâll try to be of assistance. This is sector One. Where are you heading? I know that feeling, this place feels like an never ending maze but youâll get used to it. Just be careful of the streets.âÂ
Ah, someone willing to help! Irisvielâs smile shifted into one of relief. âThank goodness,â She said and gave a slight bow of her head. Of course, that look upon his face lasted just a second but it did not go unnoticed. She chose to remain silent, that warm smile never once faltering. Instead, she reached into her pocket and revealed the slip of paper with her housing information. âIâm supposed to be in sector two,â She explained, taking a moment to glance around. âIâm right in thinking that isnât too far away?"Â
She paused for a second and caught herself. For his generosity, she hadnât even introduced herself! "Forgive my haste⊠this city is rather overwhelming. Iâll be sure to remember your advice, though.â The last thing she wanted was to run into trouble, especially when she wasnât in total understanding of her situation. âMy name is Irisviel, itâs nice to meet you.â

The city was incredibly overwhelming. For someone like Irisviel, who had very little experience with the outside world, curiosity was a given. However, having been thrust into this strange world, perhaps she found herself a little too stunned with how⊠advanced this place seemed to be. With a map in hand and her housing information tucked away safe in her coat pocket, she remained motionless on the sidewalk, ruby hues scanning her surroundings for a friendly face. And so, having spotted a man up ahead, she turned on her heel and briskly hurried toward him, extending a hand to tap his shoulder in order to gain his attention. âExcuse me!â She called, a soft smile upon her face in the hopes that he would be of assistance. âPlease, I wonder if you can help me. I find myself a little lost⊠this place is incredibly confusing; can you tell me what⊠sector this is?â

why the hell was this bastard staring at him in confusion for so damn long? he didnât appreciate being stared at, especially for this long.Â
arms folded across his almost bare chest, clucking his tongue in vexation as painted lips curled. he forgot that in the hive, the people here had the habit of staring at him like crazy. unlike back in his world, they had the tendency to tremble in fear, nearly pissing themselves at the sight of him since they knew right from the get-go who he was. but here, at the hive, was a whole different matter. and he didnât like it one damn bit.    "The hellâs your problem, bastard? Whatâs with the stupid look on your face.â
