Kurt Wagner in House of X #6: I Am Not Ashamed
“felt like finishing this one” from Stjepan Sejic. (He has an affinity for titles, eh?)
Deez @Deezer509
Kurt and Logan just sacrificed themselves together to save mutantkind!!!
“When you wake from this earthly slumber my friend, look for me. I will be there, waiting for you. Radiant and with open arms.“
The Logurt feels exploded…

When Friends Know No Better
She sighed laying her head back against the edge. She thinks about the bad blood that not only began when he blasted off her arm, but also for the envy she held for him because he was the one Jean reciprocated feelings to. On top of that, she often was handed reports of Scott’s actions from overseas so as to create a plan of attack in order to protect citizens, both human and mutant alike. This during her time as MI5 of course.
Her stomach felt like there was a heavy pit any time she recieved such reports. He was better than her in so many ways yet he had started to stoop so low. There was no enjoyment upon knowing what he did while she was what was considered at the top. But in the end they had both fallen. Stooping low. Taking another deep breathe, she considered his words. He was right, she cared about them. She tried to do as much as she could for them in MI5, and even now she would continue to do so.
She had missed so much in their times of need. She wasn’t there when they needed her the most. She needed to be here for this one. To help them now, as a way of coming back and making up for it. This wasn’t about Scott and their bad blood. This was about helping the ones she cared for the most. Kicking Scott right where the sun didn’t shine could wait. This event couldn’t. Sighing again, calmer now, the black veins faintly visible now, she turned at him.
“You are right about me caring about them. So how can I help? I’m listening.”
“The whole ‘making a plan’ isn’t really my strong suit. I didn’t get so far as to figuring out how you could help, I just knew that you would be a valuable friend to mutants with all that’s going on right now. Someone we could invariably trust, just so long as Cassandra Nova didn’t reprogram you or something terrible like that.”
he sits back, pressing his back to the wall of the room in Dana’s apartment, shrugging to himself as he considers routes they could take- while Scott is more the strategist of the two of them, now the de-facto leaders of the X-Men, perhaps even mutant-kind in general, Logan knows that asking he and Dana to coexist isn’t going to work just yet, so he’ll have to act as a buffer between them.
“Slim will have better ideas. Don’t worry, I won’t make you talk to him if you don’t think you can. I’ll ask him. As for what you can do right now... we don’t have a telepath. I don’t know if your powers would work with any version of Cerebro, but it could be worth a shot, to find out where the survivors are.”
“First, though, we’ll have to find a Cerebro unit at all. With the school gone, and Namor forbidding anyone from going into the ocean of late, we’re up shit creek without a paddle. Do you have any idea where we could get our hands on one?”
r*senberg: yeah i understand the jean/scott/logan/emma dynamic perfectly. this is exactly how it should be :)
hickman, an intellectual: hold my beer (you too, logan)
Scott: I can't believe we're stuck in this room together.
Logan, swallowing the key: how unfortunate.

When Friends Know No Better
A part of her did feel guilt for him, and unknown to him, they’ve met many times in the past. No matter how small the encounter, she always erased his memories of her. Not to protect her ‘past’ self when he meets her, but out of the memories they had before together that overwhelmed her to do so. She couldn’t handle it, and she didn’t want to face those memories then. Even now as she slowly moves towards reconnecting, she’s not sure if she wants to tell him, or to restore them. But she’s glad he’s here, alive. With her. Now all she needed was everyone else and it would be good again.
Confused, only to shrug she sits down, wanting to rip the band-aid off and traverse through whatever bad news he has. Her eyebrows furrowed in concern as he reveals this news. It did make sense as to why the letters stopped coming in, only to be returned marked in red. She found that weird and this clarified it. It also confirmed that something was wrong, something never mentioned in the letters.
“So I guess now it’s up to us to help them now, isn’t it?” She leaned back sighing, staying calm. “Damn. My step-dad’s got his house in Seattle he might let them stay if we find any. But shit man, can’t believe those fuckers are still around–”
Although she stopped and looked back at him raising an eyebrow, “When you say ‘Slim’ you’re not talking about who I think it is right?” She asked, the black veins in her left arm starting to show as she curled it into a fist.
he pauses and stares at her, taken aback by her reaction to his mentioning Scott- he knows there’s bad blood between her and the mutant revolutionary, but there’s bad blood between he and Scott as well, bad blood just as severe if not for his healing factor being such as it is; all the same, he doesn’t want to argue with her, so he tries to speak diplomatically, though it’s not one of his strong suits to do so to say the least.
“I am. Scott’s one of the few mutants left, and no matter what happened in the past, he’s trying to save mutantkind now. I know you care about mutants. Some of us are like family to you. I know he’s not- but right now, what’s important is a new extinction event.”
(the Schism flashes through his mind; fighting Scott to the death on the shores of Utopia as a garbage Sentinel bore down on them, only neither of them died there that day. it was the beginning of the end, though, in a manner of speaking.)
he doesn’t say it, but he’s thinking of all the things she wasn’t there for- Genosha, House of M, and Utopia, mostly, humans and their power always turned against mutants to try and exterminate them, be that Sentinels, chaos magic, or Dark Avengers and X-Men. there’s been so much extinction- something has to change, if they survive, but, first, they have to actually make it through this new calamity.
he isn’t sure how she’s going to react to this, isn’t sure if it’s going to start a fight or not- he hopes not. he’d hate for the first time he sees her again in years, let alone after dying, to end with them fighting each other and forming new wounds instead of healing old ones.
When Friends Know No Better
She realizes that the Logan she hugged back at the School was not her Logan. The real one was here in front of her, in her home. They last time they ever saw each other was the night she left. The last time she heard anything about him was on the news about his death. How she cried through it all as the details of his death poured from the screen.
But now he’s here, in the flesh. Instead of his usual leather jacket she had been so used to seeing. Now it’s reduced to a measly hoodie. She had never died in her life. Sure there were many close calls fueling her adrenaline. She didn’t know what it was like, only imagining how bad it could be to get everything back together.
“Hey,” She whispered at a loss for words as well. She wanted to do so much more than that, to scream. She was already tearing up as she did with the other Logan. So she walked up to him and hugged him. Wrapping her arms around him, she pulled him into an embrace of reunion, partially overwhelmed at seeing him again in so long and desperately happy to see him.
“Hi,” She repeated again, the emotions lodged in her throat.
he lets her hug him, and even surprises himself by returning the gesture for a moment, one-armed and half unsure about it even as he’s doing it, like this is all going to turn out to be some elaborate scheme to get him to let his guard down- as much as he trusts Dana, he can’t trust the world anymore, can’t dare to imagine that it won’t betray him again; it’s already erased him before, erased him in so many ways he’s forgotten half of them, but now it’s erased most of his family, too, and right when he came back to them.
“I’m glad to see you, too. I wish this was under better circumstances, but this isn’t a social call, Dana.”
when they separate, he sighs deeply and roughly takes a seat on the floor, criss-crossing his legs and patting the ground beside him- he knows she probably already knows about the X-Men disappearing, given the news running cycles on it, but on the off chance that she doesn’t, he needs to tell her while she’s sitting down.
“The X-Men are gone. I don’t know where, and I don’t know how, but the school was destroyed, and they are nowhere to be found. Not even Slim and I can find them, and if anyone could, it’d be us. I think... something bad must have happened. I don’t know what, but something.”
“We’re on our own. There’s not a lot of mutants left, now. Who’s left is having trouble finding will to fight against the Purifiers, and all the others.”

“I’m sorry for whatever way I fucked up your life.” “Oh, you didn’t. You really didn’t. Quite the opposite, actually.”
When Friends Know No Better
@wclvcrinc
She entered her apartment, releasing Lucie into the living room where she sat on the couch with the chew toy in hand. Dana looked at the grocery bag containing blank postcards, a little smile crawling across her face with the intent she had with them.
She set them on the coffee table, as she grabs a cup but as she draws water from the faucet, she noticed the dirt on the wooden floors. How it formed into tracks coming from the bottom of boots. Whoever they were, she had a feeling they were in here now. Not wanting to send Lucie into a full-on ravage mode, she quietly drank her water and slowly followed the tracks into the next room.
Shadows slowly weaved into existence as it took on the form of her sword she is so dearly familiar with. She followed it into the closed room and holding the sword in one hand. Slowly she opened the door, ready to strike.
But she wasn’t prepared for who was in the room. She wasn’t prepared to see him alive. And she stands in shock because he’s someone who had died. The one she didn’t say goodbye to.
Logan.
he hadn’t meant to startle her, but he knows how this looks, him wandering in and then lurking in the room with the door closed when she entered; he hadn’t been prepared to face her on her own turf, not fully, and so he’s off his game when she comes upon him, and stares for a moment before he speaks his first words to her in what feels like uncountable years.
“Hey, Dana. Long time, no see.”
it probably comes off as callous- but, oh well, he’s the Wolverine, and he’s always been callous, and he has more right to be than ever right now, with waking up from the dead and barely seeing his friends again before all of them disappeared and left him high and dry in a world unbridled with anti-mutant hatred; Cassandra Nova’s hate machines had been defeated by Jean, by his understanding, but there was still so much hate he couldn’t be sure.
he had intended for this to go differently; in his vision, he finds her in the rain, the world dim with cloud-cover and the air tinged a grey-blue tone with the shadows of the storm and the condensation it jettisons down upon them in the street; he’s wearing a hooded sweatshirt, his fists stuck in the pocket across the stomach as he searches her out, trying to hide his identity. the Wolverine is known, so he must hide; this new wave of powerful anti-mutant sentiment requires it.
this vision is not what comes to pass; instead, he’s in his hooded sweatshirt with the hood down, and his hands are loose and uncertain at his sides like they’ve never been before and he’s not quite sure how to continue.
he is surprised when she hugs him, not having expected her to feel such intense emotion towards him in this time, particularly not towards a Logan such as himself, one that she doesn’t even know, who hasn’t even experienced the same past that she has- her arms wrapping around him and pulling him in sends a jolt through him, and he stiffens for a moment before softening his stance and bringing his arms up to wrap her in his own tentative hug.
her tears are wet on his skin at the edge of his leotard where it meets the base of his neck; it reminds him of the future, of the humid, gentle rains that would come down from... above, and pepper their leotards and exposed skin as they sat together and remembered.
when she separates from him, he’s unsure how to feel, but then he pushes all of the feelings down inside, because this is about her; it’s not about him, his confused feelings that he hasn’t solved in all his many years of life, it’s about helping her process her grief in this time before he returns to his. she will remain. he will not.
“That you can, Dana. I can’t say goodbye for him, but you can say goodbye to me.”
“You don’t have to be fearless, but I do understand the point. You’re welcome.”
he isn’t good in emotional moments; he’s motivated to stand up and move a few paces away to give her her privacy, but he’s spent long enough with his Dana to know that doing that would only place a distance between them, would only leave her feeling that the time for emotion between them is over, and that she ought to tamp down on the feelings once again.
Logan has suffered enough hiding from himself, has compartmentalized away enough heinous crimes, that he knows how that feels, perhaps knows it to more of an extreme extent than even Dana- because she is unflinchingly good, and he is not, so he must reckon with himself and his past every day.
all he knows is he doesn’t want to leave this moment and leave her, leave her to crush her emotions into a box and shove it to the corner of her mind- this is more important than his inability to handle complex emotional moments the majority of the time, so he’s going to soldier through, because it might not be what he does best, but, shit, for the sake of people like Kitty, like Jubilee, like Dana, he can damn well do it his best.
so he places a hand weighed down by adamantium claws between her shoulders with all the thought in the world, gently patting her back and hoping she understands the implicit-
you’re home.
She nodded agreeing he’s not the perfect guy to explain all of this. Taking the invitation a little warmer, she takes off her eye-patch and leaves it in her coat pocket sighing as she sits next to him. Here, in her home, she had nothing to hide. There wasn’t a need to hide for the time she’s in here. In this garden in her home, her heart starts to calm down as she takes in the flowers’ scent and the trembling starts to stop little by little.
“Oh, yeah. First rule of time travel right?” She asked smiling a little. Whether it was in Back to Future or one of Richards’ lectures on a TED Talk, that seemed to be a recurring rule. But whenever she tried doing that in the early years of her immortality, she was quiet about her life. Whenever she did to her friends, they either laughed calling her crazy and move on, or they died from age and unfortunate circumstances that were the Mob and Mafia.
But the Dana he knew in his timeline…Sounded perfect and here she wasn’t, afraid that everyone around would see her for what she did and how she had the nerve coming back here after everything.
“That doesn’t sound like me at all. Your Dana sounds like she’s well put together better than me,” She admitted, chuckling a little hoping he was kidding.
“No one’s perfect. No one’s that well together. My Dana isn’t. I’m not. No one here is, either. That’s just life.”
“Look, the point I’m trying to make is... my Dana found her way back to us despite what drove her away. I have an idea of what happened here to drive you away, too, but I want you to know that you’ll be okay. You’ll find your way back to- to them. To your family.”
he’s sure this Dana views the mutants as her family just the same as his Dana- because this Dana has sacrificed plenty for them, too, has done plenty for them, just as his Dana has done in his future.
he also doesn’t want to scare her away, though, try to push her too hard with the reminders of the timeline he’s from and what he knows must be true in this one as well, so he adds on another statement.
“You can take your time. You’re their family, too- they’ll understand. If they need you, they’ll call. But they’ll be waiting, no matter what, when you’re ready.”
