Scratches on the paintwork of your car? Here’s how to remove them.
Be it a brand new car, or one that has seen a lot of miles in its lifetime, no one likes scratches on their ride. But what does one do about these little scrapes and scratches that seemingly appear out of nowhere? And how to remove these car scratches?
Car scratches can occur because of a variety of reasons. From poor parking to unintentional scratches by things kept on the hood or otherwise – it happens, and we just need to know how to fix them.
Here are 3 scratch removal techniques that will help you out quick and easy:
Regular, gentle car wash
Step 1
Pour water over the surface of the scratch and rinse the car well. If you’re using a hose, make sure the speed isn’t set too high.
Step 2
Use car washing soap or liquid detergent to wash the scratch, and scrub it with a microfiber cloth or a soft sponge. Do not use any kind of powdered detergent because it might cause more scratches as you clean with it.
Step 3
Rinse the car again with clean water, and you’re good to go.
This solution works well for superficial scratches that have barely scraped off the clear coat of the paint. Often, dirt gets accumulated in these surface-level scratches making them look worse than they are. So a regular, gentle wash with liquid detergent and a microfiber cloth should do the trick temporarily.
Using toothpaste to remove mild car scratches
Step 1
Wash and dry the scratched area with car soap or liquid detergent.
Step 2
Depending on the size of the scratch, add toothpaste to a microfiber cloth and scrub the scratches in circular motions. Make sure the toothpaste is a smooth paste (without tiny granules in it) to avoid further scratches during the cleaning process.
Step 3
Rinse out the excess toothpaste after 5 minutes of doing this and wipe with a soft microfiber cloth.
This method is fairly effective for surface-level scratches that are a little more than a tiny scrape, but less than a scratch that has gone up to the actual paint of the car.
Using WD-40 to remove car scratches
Step 1
Spray a generous amount of WD-40 directly onto the scratches on your car, and let it sit for 50-60 seconds.
Step 2
Take a soft microfiber cloth, and slowly (but firmly) wipe it all off along the scratched bits to really work the product in. You should see the scratches start to fade.
Step 3
You may repeat this process if needed, or after every car wash.
Sometimes, lighter solutions like normal detergent or toothpaste might not help all the way through with scratches. WD-40 is excellent in cleaning up scratches that have cut through even the base coat of the paint. In addition to being safe for use on car surfaces, it also adds a subtle shine and an extra layer of protection for the scratches from the dust and also prevent rust.

Blocked sliding door/window? Here’s what you need to do.
Be it for the beautiful outside view, or as a safety precaution – we all want our sliding doors and windows to function smoothly. Let’s understand why they sometimes get blocked or are hard to slide.
Although there are railings both at the top and the bottom of the sliding door/window, the bottom usually does the heavy lifting. That’s where the dust and muck get accumulated. Over time, rust slowly builds up, and the whole situation gets worse. But how do you fix a jammed sliding door/window?
Inspect the frame
Sometimes, segments in the frame come loose, which might contribute to the window/door getting jammed in its place. But mostly, it’s the rust and rubble that cause the issue. As long as the structure of the sliding window/door isn’t broken or physically damaged in any way, you can surely fix the problem at home.
Have the right tools
For cleaning up a blocked sliding door/window effectively and quickly, you will need:
An old toothbrush
A toothpick
A paper towel
WD-40
A dry cloth
Deep clean the railings
The best way to deal with the rust and rubble in the railing is to get rid of it. Here’s how:
Step 1 Scrape off grit and rubble with the toothbrush. Make sure you work your way from the edges to the corners carefully.
Step 2 Vacuum or pick up the dirt with a paper towel. It will seem disgusting at first, given its appearance. But know that it’s definitely worth cleaning up.
Step 3 Spray WD-40 along the railing of the blocked sliding, as well as inside the grooves from both the sides. Sliding the panels back and forth will help the cleaning agent to get under the muck.
Step 4 The WD-40 cleaning agent would have begun breaking down rust and loosening the stubborn grit and muck inside the railing. Use a toothbrush and even a toothpick if needed, to scrape out muck from the hard-to-reach segments. Wipe it all with a dry cloth.
Step 5 Spray another coat of WD-40 all over and inside the railing. Slide the panels back and forth a few times, and you should have a smooth sliding window/door by now.
The maintenance
A lot of people wash their sliding windows with normal detergent and water, without quickly drying it out. Because of this, there’s moisture retention and rust formation. To make the windows slide smoother, baby oil is also recommended by a lot of people. But it isn’t as effective. On the contrary, it attracts more dirt. This is why using a cleaning agent like WD-40 is always recommended. It not only deals with the rust, dirt, and grime but also adds a protective layer to help maintain the smoothness of the sliding window/door.
Door blocked: SOS my lock no longer responds
It’s unfortunate, but it can happen. Locks can get jammed which may cause a blocked door, and you can possibly get stuck inside your own home. Or perhaps, outside. Panicking isn’t an option, but you can’t afford to get stuck with a jammed door for long. Which is why it’s important to diagnose the problem and find a solution.
The reasons for the jam could differ, and so will the solution. So if you can save the trouble (and cost) of getting a professional involved, why not give these quick-lock fixes a go?
Problem: Rubble and rust build-up
Stubborn lime stains? Here’s how to remove them.
We understand, no one likes to get their hands dirty to clean up the bathroom. But time can cause a lime build up in your toilet pot, and other areas of the bathroom (and even the kitchen!). It isn’t a pretty sight, nor is it the healthiest thing to have around. Perhaps it’s just the hard water that’s causing it, and the problem has been overlooked for a couple of weeks/months now. Whatever the reason, it’s important to remove limescale even if you don’t live in the bathroom 24×7. Yes, we know of that excuse, too.
Here are 3 solutions that can help you get rid of the lime build up in your bathroom:
Solution 1:
Using Lemon juice to remove limescale
Although this solution takes the most amount of time, these ingredients are affordable and easy to use. You may either use 1-2 cups of lemon juice for the procedure.
Step 1 Spray/pour a generous amount of lemon juice all over the limescale in your toilet pot/bathroom.
Step 2 Since this solution takes a while to work, allow it to soak for a day. Be wary of using the bathroom during the soaking period, since it won’t be effective if not soaked enough.
Step 3 Scrub the areas with steel wool/a bathroom scrubber, and flush. If you’ve given enough time for the solution to work, you should see a significant difference after.
Solution 2:
Using Baking soda to remove limescale
Often associated with cleaning hacks at home, this solution would require a lot of baking soda, a few minutes of pre-prep, and more than a few hours for it to work. Here’s what you do:
Step 1 Make a thick paste of baking soda and water in a bowl.
Step 2 Carefully apply it all over the affected areas, and let it sit overnight.
Step 3 Once you give it a couple of hours/leave it overnight, it should be ready for a thorough scrubbing. You may rinse the areas with water and liquid detergent right after if you think necessary.
Solution 3:
Using WD-40 to remove limescale
Known for its various uses all over the house, WD-40 is an expert cleaner even when it comes to clearing up limescale. Here’s what you need to do after keeping a clean cloth, a scrubber, and can of WD-40 ready:
Step 1 Spray a coat of WD-40 over the affected area.
Step 2 Let it soak for 4-5 minutes, and scrub away for a minute or so.
Step 3 Wipe clean with a cloth.
Yes, it’s that simple. The best part about using a cleaning solution like WD-40 is that its specially engineered formula works its way under the build-up in no time, making the cleaning process easier and more convenient.
Jammed luggage handles? Here’s how you fix them.
You’ve planned your trip for months and packed your bags in advance. One day before you leave, you realize that the suitcase handle won’t budge! With no time in hand to get that repaired, you’re starting to panic. We’re here to tell you that we have a solution!
Identify the problem
The reason for jammed handles could either be a build-up of debris and rust along with the handles, or maybe there’s an issue with the extension mechanism. As long as you’re sure the handle isn’t broken, there’s nothing to worry about.
Step 1
Open the interior zip of the suitcase, and inspect the joints and bolts of the telescopic extension.
Step 2
Look for any obstructions that may have any pins stuck midway. Identify where they’re stuck, and manually push the pin inside the guide and pull the handle from the outside. To avoid the pins from getting stuck in the wrong guides again, simply lubricate them and tape them up with a strong tape to make the quick fix durable.
Step 3
If this doesn’t work, you will have to remove the extension panel of the suitcase.
Remove the outer panel
If the problem seems to be more internal, and you think the extension panel needs further inspection and lubrication, here’s what you need to do.
Step 1
Unscrew the retaining bolts on the outer panel with a screwdriver.
Step 2
Gently pull the outer panel upwards, fully revealing the extension mechanism of the suitcase.
Step 3
Keep the screws in a safe place, as you will need to put them back later.
Using WD-40 for jammed luggage handles
When it comes to lubricating jammed parts, WD-40 is the best solution. Its active formula is specially designed to get under the grit and rust on the handle very quickly and effectively.
Step 1
Use a flashlight if needed, and check for dust, muck, or debris stuck in the extension mechanism. If so, you should be able to brush them off with a toothbrush quite easily.
Step 2
Place the handle upwards and at full length, and spray a generous amount of WD-40 all over the handle/handle extensions.
Step 3
Pull the handle up and down repeatedly for a minute so that the solution gets through and lubricates the internal joints. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Repeat the process if needed. You should have your handle lubricated and functioning by now.
Jammed luggage handles are cumbersome to operate. But with a quick inspection of the inside shaft and the exterior, it will be easy for you to determine what needs to be done. If the handle is jammed only because of rust and grime, pick up a can of WD-40 and get those handles moving in no time!
