New Circular
Working in the darkroom to perfect a print, trialling with and without contrast filters at different times to increase the depth in blacks and make the whites pop.
Journal entries over the last few months of work.
Photography 1 - Photograms continued...
I then started work on final prints for Assessment 1, working with 8 x10 paper. My goal was to make five.
Towards the end of week four, I used the darkroom to make some prints, with a recent roll of 35mm negatives, I set the enlarger up and made a few standard prints.
Naturally, I was keen to combine the two techniques, so I did.
Once I worked out my rhythm I moved to 8 x10 paper and printed the below for my final series.
Photography 1 - Photograms
During this class, I have kept a physical journal for my work, below I will detail out my process throughout Photo 1.
In week 2 we were encouraged to experiment with other types of photo making methods, not just photogram’s. Whilst flicking through Photography without a Camera the library, I became interested in sunprints and painting with fixer. Which I tried out,
I wasn't able to achieve anything similar to my reference and wasn't satisfied to I moved on.
From week three + four I went back to working on straight up photogram’s, using objects that manipulated light in certain ways. Using things like plastic cellophane, liquid and a HOYA FX lens that I had for my Nikon. At first, I was putting this lens on the paper and exposing it, it wasn't doing anything that exciting...
But once I used the lens from above, I saw something different, so I kept working. At first, there was black with some small variations in light.
I moved the enlarger closer to the paper, to make a smaller area for the light to bounce and minimized the exposure time. At this point I was processing the paper at super quick speeds through the developer and fixer, causing this pinky warmth around the outside...
Use a piece of technology in a ‘broken way’
Wrapping what is inherently a brutal object in something soft. And also not using wool “properly”.

emotional baggage - task 2 submission
How about a wall of wool to make you feel a little more comfortable. Come a little closer... Just there. Press your cheek up against it, wait... Don't touch the artwork! fall asleep, green is the colour of love. Alright alright, for real this time. I had to whirl up a bit of chat to fill out this concept statement.
Soft rebellion has become the paradigm which drives my practice. The term soft rebellion refers to subtlety disobeying the hierarchy of established art norms. It questions class and taste and the status of the artist verses the artisan. The Ben Quilty's verses the spotlight-nanas-country-crotchet-CWA-club. It's the war. Art versus craft. Exhibiting craft in realms prior reserved for fine art is more challenging because of the close proximity the two worlds sit within. To some extent exhibiting craft is more rebellious than showcasing things further removed from the art world, which has been seen with the readymade. The main motivation of this idea is to include rather than exclude people from this beautiful thing called art.
The choice of wool as the core material in my work Emotional baggage reinforces the inclusive nature of my practice. Alright we'll just talk about wool for a second. We've been wearing cardigans and shepherding sheep since day dot and it's completely inoffensive. We use it for bedding, clothing and furnishing it's all around us, familiar and can be re-purposesed however you like, in this case latch hooked, framed and hung as emotional baggage.

Humanising home appliances
Can readymade still be considered interesting or push thought in the contemporary art spehere?
Is humanising everyday objects a form of rebellion?
Latch Hook work in progress. I have constructed an original piece using netting and a crochet circle and have also bought a 2nd hand latch hook template from Etsy which I will try to redesign keeping in mind the rebellion theme I start during task 1. This craft already heroes my colour palette of cream, yellows, oranges and browns
Some ideas
- genitalia with extra long hair falling from the work.
- boobs
- monochrome - all one colour
Exploring new materials and mediums for task 2. I recently found the craft latch hooking and am exploring how this can be translated to fine art.
