Academy Award Winner Lupita Nyong’o as Storm in ‘X-Men’?

Lupita Nyong’o was a superhero sweeping through the awards season, now there are petitions being circulated on change.org urging the producers of the film, to consider replacing actress Halle Berry with 12 Years A Slave’s Nyong’o in future X-Men installments.

Photoshopped images of Oscar winner Nyong’o are popping up on social media sites depicting her with comic book icon Storm’s signature electric silver hair, while on the red carpet at the Oscars.

Although Berry will be hitting screens this summer in the latest X-Men filmDays of Future Past, supporters of Nyong’o and X-Men fans alike say Nyong’o is the perfect fit for the role.

Jamie Broadnax, the petition creator, wrote:

“She has the accent, the look, and the acting chops to play Storm as the comic book intended. Please kindly take this into consideration and respect the demand of Marvel consumers and fans of this amazing franchise.”

This petition echoes the slight trend of Blacks playing the roles of superheroes. Actors Anthony Mackie and Michael B. Jordan were recently cast as Falcon and Johnny Storm respectively.
