A normal person would’ve cheered or congratulated the happy couple. The rest of the room clapped and even shed some happy tears once the man got on his knee and proposed. Not Ethan, though. He watched from the corner of the room, looking at the woman who he had relations to just a day ago. A forced smile fell on his lips once he wiggled through the crowd of people congratulating the couple to shake the man’s hand, giving a forced ‘congrats’ and turned over to the woman and gave her a hug. That was allowed, right? The rest of the room was certainly giving her hugs, so why not him? Ethan was quick and quiet to whisper in her ear. “Meet me upstairs in ten minutes,” He didn’t know how she’d be able to disappear from the room, but he needed to see her privately.
She was never supposed to become one of those women. The kind of woman who stepped out of her relationship without a care, who told a man she loved him and then lied about where she was going in the same breath, who kept secrets from the people closest to her. But she’d never planned on Ethan. She’d met his brother a few years before while she was in college, and Elliot was sweet, and charming, and treated her well, and was everything Lana had thought she wanted. But before she’d met his brother, she’d never actually been able to use the phrase ‘one thing lead to another’ - least of all use it half a dozen times, as if falling into bed with Ethan was just something that kept happening through no fault of her own. She knew she had to put a stop to it eventually, and she had every intention of doing so. Though it seemed the fates decided to put her resolve to the test. When Elliot stooped to his knee in front of his entire family, a million different things flashed through Lana’s mind, but Ethan seemed to be the most frequent. Whatever they were, whatever they had, it had to end now. She was no longer just fooling around behind her boyfriend’s back. She had a fiance. A fiance who’s family adored her just as much as she did them, a fiance who had no clue that his brother had just requested a private conversation with her, and a fiance who easily believed her when she excused herself to go call her mother. Which she would. After she spoke to someone else. “Before you say anything, I had no idea he was going to do that.” she said as soon as her eyes were on Ethan and the door was shut behind her.
