FINALLY a progress update!

Only 4 weeks until concert time and I'm actually kicking into gear on my Lord Huron concert jacket.

WBUB- Broadcasting all night: made one hundred percent out of scraps and offcuts. This one I decided "fuck it, shitty is better than not done" and actually got working.

Then I had enough momentum to do the World Ender patch well! All stash fabric- orange and white are bits of flannel and the lightning bolt is colorshift satin on top of yellow felt. Everything is zigzag appliqued. I might go in with some embroidery near the base and clouds if I feel like it needs more texture, but overall I'm very happy.

Incomparable

We humans can't seem to help ourselves - we're compelled, for some reason, to compare things to other things.

For example, Lord Huron was still wet behind the ears when music critics started scrambling to identify the band's musical soulmates - Fleet Foxes, the Lumineers, Bon Iver ...?

Finally, the folks at the music blog UpToHear have acknowledged that such comparisons add up to an exercise in futility. It's not that the Bubs are more, or less, talented than other bands. Let's just say LH is unique and let it go at that. Here's part of what the UpToHear blogger wrote:

"Finding artists similar to Lord Huron is one of the hardest things we’ve ever tried to do. The usual Google searches tend to recycle the same handful of names: Gregory Alan Isakov, Fleet Foxes, The Decemberists… And we love these artists, but we prefer to venture beyond the algorithm.

"Most 'artists like' articles assume every musician has a dozen obvious peers waiting in the wings. Lord Huron is different. Ben is doing an LH themed art exhibit !!! soooo cool !!! it's such a cute full circle moment with him having studied painting and doing an exhibit before LH was even a thing to now doing an exhibit themed after his successful band with his childhood besties 🥹🥹

Johnnies 11-20!! I mean ok some of these have multiple. But also one is just an eye, one is barely there, and I didn't count the one that is just hands. I think my favorite thing about both sets is the color scheme - they're not all the exact same but there's a satisfying consistency to it regardless.
