The muffled sound of distanced voices was all you could detect, your hearing being the only functional sense you had at that moment. It was like when your body was half-sleep: your eyes were still closed, your body was still numb but you could feel what was happening around you. The only thing you knew was that you were laying on a silky surface and that you couldn't move or speak, you could just listen passively.
"She will get through this," a familiar female voice said a few inches away from you.
"I should have protected her better" a raspy familiar male voice replied close to your figure.
"It's not your fault Zoro. You did your best", she said after having released a deep sigh. You reconned that it was Nami who was talking as you could recognize her delicate, deep voice even from ten miles away.
"How long before she recovers?" you heard him ask after a long pause.
"It's up to her now. Stay close and talk to her, it should help" an unknown male voice spoke from afar.
"we'll do it. Thank you, doctor" someone, who you then recognized being Luffy, said with an unusual, serious tone before hearing the door close with a light thud.
"C'mon guys, let's leave them alone," Nami said before exiting the room with the others a few seconds later.
A long minute of pure silence passed where all you could hear was the loudly ticking sound of what seemed a wall clock above your head, it being the only thing that was keeping you from losing consciousness again. As you were about to give up, you suddenly felt the air shift on your left side before a warm hand intertwined with your cold-laid one, instantly recognizing Zoro's delicate touch. He started to caress your knuckles with his thumb, creating small and soft circular motions on them.
"I'm sorry y/n, I-" he stopped as he sighed deeply, still keeping his hold on your hand."-I should have realized my feelings for you earlier. I should have opened up to you instead of pushing you away...now, you are here, unconscious and all I can think of is how I'm going to survive if I lose you too" he mumbled defeated as his his hold on your hand tightened.
You might have seemed calm and at peace from the outside, but from the inside your heart and mind were aching for what Zoro was saying to you. All you wanted to do was to open your eyes, hug him, and tell him that everything was going to be fine, but you couldn't. You still hadn't full control over your body.
"I was scared to love someone after what happened to Kuina. That's why I was acting like I couldn't stand you. It was my way to protect myself from being hurt again, but now I realize that I was wrong...I love you so freaking much that I would do everything in my power to see you smile again" Zoro mumbled before leaning onto your body, his face a few inches away from yours.
"Please come back to me" he whimpered as he delicately caressed your right cheek with his free hand while his forehead was leaning onto yours.
At hearing his confession, your heart instantly started to frenetically bump inside your chest, pushing your body to wake from your trance state. A little whimper escaped from your lips as you were slowly regaining consciousness, your eyes still closed as you were still feeling numb and weak.
"y/n?!" Zoro mumbled shocked as he cupped your face with both of his hands.
"Z-zoro" you whispered as you slowly lifted your arm to touch one of his hands, your lids gradually opening to reveal a concerned face looking down at you.
"Are you okay? I'm going to call the doctor" he said as he instantly stood up to reach the door, but you managed to stop him by taking his wrist with your hand.
"D-don't leave me" you mumbled out of breath, locking your weak stare with his worried one.
He nodded before proceeding to sit down next to you, his hand looking for yours once again.
"Wh-what happened? Where are we?" you murmured with the little strength you had inside your body.
"What's the last thing you remember?" Zoro answered, still looking at you with concern.
"W-we were fighting in Kaya's mansion and then-" You paused for a second to regain control over your memories and then the image of the weird cat lady hurting you hit you harshly "- I-I was stabbed".
As if your mind was reconnecting with your body, you started to feel an itching, unbearable pain on your left side, which only made you hiss in discomfort and close your eyes for a second.
"Are you alright?" Zoro asked you worried by delicately touching your cheek.
You nodded and then stared deep into his brown captivating eyes, which were so close to you now as he unconsciously leaned towards you a second before. You gulped as his eyes were now roaming over your lips while his thumb was creating small circles on your cheek, making your heart rate increase tremendously. You were craving one of his kisses so much that your free hand instantly reached for his neck and then pushed his face closer to yours, making your lips meet softly. Even if it was just a series of small pecks you were giving each other, it was what you needed after you nearly died in his arms a few hours back. You needed to feel him as he needed to feel you.
"Let me call the doctor," he whispered a few seconds after the kiss ended, his forehead still leaning onto yours.
When he was about to stand up to leave the room you stopped him again by taking his hand in yours.
"I Love you too" you muttered as a small smile was plastered on your weak features.
At first, he stood still with wide-open eyes and furrowed brows, as he didn't know that you heard all the words he spoke to your unconscious figure, but then he widely smiled at you, tightening his grip on your hand and kissing you delicately on your lips again.

"Let's find the others now," you said determined.
You hissed in pain as you started to walk forward, completely forgetting about your dislocated ankle.
"Let me carry you," Zoro offered his help with concern in his eyes.
You lifted your confused gaze to meet his worried one, unable to understand his sudden urge to assist you while a few hours ago he could barely stand you. While you were exchanging looks, a sudden idea came up to you, making your eyes widen instantly.
"Wait a second" you mumbled while carefully scanning the ground to look for something that might have helped you with steadying your ankle.
"Yes!" you exclaimed cheerfully a few minutes after as you managed to find two small branches a few meters from the well, which you intended to put at the sides of your dislocation. Zoro looked at you astonished as you teared up a piece of the silky dress you had worn at Kaya's dinner party, only to use it as a bandage to keep your ankle in its place with the help of the branches as well.
"This should work" you exclaimed with hope in your voice.
He took a moment to carefully observe your medical solution and then looked away, unbothered as he always did.
"Not Bad," he said with his usual apathetic voice, returning to being the usual Zoro you knew.
"Here we go again", you said after you loudly sighed in frustration.
"What?" he replied furrowing his brows in confusion as his head snapped instantly towards your direction.
You narrowed your eyes at him before rolling them up, annoyed by his childish behavior.
"Nothing...let's just get going" you mumbled defeated as you walked passed him, limping with each step you took.
You let out a small piercing whimper as you were suddenly lifted from the ground, feeling Zoro's right arm surrounding your lower back while the other one was resting under your knees. He was carrying you effortlessly bridal style while walking back to the mansion.
"What are you doing?" you exclaimed disconcerted by his impulsive actions.
"I'm carrying you" he mocked you as he stated the obvious.
"You are very perceptive, I see" you teased him by rolling your eyes up.
"Do you prefer being dropped, then? I can easily do it now if you wish, Madam" he exclaimed while slowly losing his grip on your body, which only made you whimper in fear and tighten your hold around his neck, afraid that he actually did so.
As you pushed yourself up so as not to fall on the ground, your face got terribly closer to Zoro's, who was loudly giggling at your behavior. You could feel his warm breath on your lips as soon as his head slightly turned right to meet yours, your shy gaze meeting his piercing deep one. You opened your mouth to say something but nothing came out as you were still terribly close to one another, both of you still trying to analyze what the other one was thinking and feeling. His eyes softened for a second as his stare landed on your pink delicate lips, which were a few inches away from his. Zoro didn't know why, but he had always been drawn to them since the very first day he met you. He always found himself staring at them too much for his usual tastes and that made his mind go in confusion. Little did you know that he acted like he couldn't bear you just because he didn't know how to control his feelings, just because he didn't want to be hurt if anything happened to you like what occurred in the past with his friend. His train of thought was interrupted as he watched you slowly lift your hand to caress his left cheek, making every inch of his skin shiver. A few seconds later he found himself getting closer and closer to your face, his eyes closing instinctively to savour the moment. As your lips finally met, your heart stopped for a millisecond only to bump so loudly and fast in your chest right after that you were afraid it could have jumped right out of it. He sighed in pleasure as you deepened the kiss, your tongues intertwining together in a sweet dance, which was delicate and slow at first but then transformed into a hungry and passionate one. A slight moan escaped your throat as he kept kissing you with need and hunger, his arms tightening around your body to keep you as close as possible to his strong chest while your left hand softly pulled his green hair, making him groan in desire. After a while, you reluctantly decided to interrupt the moment as things would have escalated quickly if either of you didn't do something about it. It wasn't that you didn't want to, but your crew was in danger. You couldn't hook up while the others needed your help. Your swollen lips were still a few inches away from one another as your forehead was leaning onto his, both of you trying to recover from that long passionate kiss, wanting nothing else than immortalizing it in your minds.
"W-we should go, Zoro" you whispered softly to him.
He nodded before giving you a small peck on your forehead and then started to walk towards Kaya's mansion, still embracing you tightly in his arms. As soon as you reached the main entrance, you both noticed that every door and window was shut down by heavy shutters, which made it impossible to get in.
"What do we do now?" you asked him with panic in your voice.
Without saying a word, Zoro carefully put you on the ground before getting closer to the main entryway, attentively scanning it with his piercing stare. You watched as he effortlessly rolled the shutter up with his hands a few seconds later, successfully creating your way in. You had always been amazed by his infinite strength and deep down you had always found it sexy, in fact, you were there staring at him with lost amused eyes.
"Are you okay?" he asked perplexed as he noticed you weirdly looking at him from afar.
You scrolled your head and then nodded, your cheeks instantly turning red.
"Let's go," you said frenetically after clearing your throat and walking past him, still feeling embarrassed.
You heard him chuckle from behind you while he followed you inside the mansion, being careful not to hit your head as you passed under the shutter. As soon as you entered from the main entrance you noticed that the entire building was dominated by a sinister gloomy atmosphere, which only made your anxiety increase.
"I need to find my bow" you whispered to Zoro while scanning the dark hall.
"Where did you put it?" he replied under his breath, paying attention not to make any kind of noise.
"I think Krahador had it delivered to the bedroom that was assigned to me, but I haven't got the pleasure to see where it was, considering the circumstances" you mumbled with a touch of sarcasm in your voice.
"Got it. Stay behind me" he whispered and then delicately took your small wrist in his big hand, slowly pushing you behind him.
When he did so, your heart started to frenetically bump inside your chest as you craved his touch more than anything else you could think of. You both started to slowly walk through the hallways of Kaya's mansion, Zoro in front of you with one hand on his sword and the other one softly holding you by your wrist, to keep you as close to his body as possible. After spending a long ten minutes checking different bedrooms, you managed to find the one assigned to you.
"Here it is" you whispered, before sighing in relief, as your eyes landed on your wooden bow, which was leaning on the wall.
Zoro stood still in front of the door as you quickly hurried inside the room, picking it in your hands a few seconds later after having hooked the quiver to your back.
"We can go now" you mumbled, staring deep into his eyes.
He nodded while he looked back at you with his usual penetrating stare, making your heart skip a bit for a second. You were about to walk past him when you felt his hand surrounding your forearm, softly pulling you back to where he was before making you turn to face him.
"Wha-" you tried to mumble before he slammed his lips onto yours with a rapid movement of his head, kissing you delicately. Although it was just a simple kiss, you could feel all of his love and passion coming through it.
"Why did you do that?" you whispered after your lips departed, staring deep into his brown big eyes.
"I wanted to" he replied softly before starting to walk through the corridor again, still keeping you close behind him.
Your mind was so lost while thinking about the kiss you just had, that you didn't notice Zoro suddenly stopping at the center of the hallway, your body crushing onto his back, making you come back to your senses.
"What?" you asked him quietly as you walked quickly in front of him to meet his concentrated face.
He brought his finger to his mouth as a way to say to you to stay quiet before slowly turning towards the other side of the room. You quickly understood that something was off so you began following him with your bow tight in your hand, an arrow already nocked to the bowstring. After having wandered through almost every corner of the mansion, you found yourselves reaching the main hall again, but this time the gloomy atmosphere was gone. As soon as you both got there, your eyes landed on two weird figures standing at the center of the room, which was lightened up by the wall lamps and the big chandelier above them.
"What the fuck?" you mumbled as soon as you realized that the mysterious weird clothed people were Krahador's assistants, who were glowering at the two of you with swords in their hands.
Zoro's head turned in your direction as you exchanged fixed suspicious looks but, at the same time, you knew what would have happened in a matter of seconds. He gave you a soft look before slowly drawing his katanas out of their covers, preparing for the inevitable fight. As soon as the weird cat lady started to angrily run in your direction with her sword lifted in the air, you shot an arrow toward her, aiming at one of her legs. If it wasn't for her colleague, who managed to intercept your arrow in time with his blade, you would have definitely hit her. Zoro used his body as a human shield as the robust butler tried to hit you with his sword, intercepting it with one of his katanas. He then pushed you afar with his back, wanting to put as much space as possible between you and the weird assistants. You decided that you would have had a better view of the situation from above, so you quickly ran upstairs while Zoro effortlessly blocked each one of their attacks. The cat lady hissed in pain as one of your arrows sliced her forearm, successfully stopping her from hurting Zoro from behind. She glared at you and then snarled at your figure before jumping onto the stairs, and quickly climbing them up. You managed to intercept her hit by lifting your bow before swinging your body back to dodge another one. She shouted angrily at you before frenetically swinging her sword in your direction, which only made you stumble backward as you tried to avoid being hit. You felt a sharp pain coming from your side as she managed to slice you, eventually, taking advantage of a moment of distraction. In fact, while you were trying to survive her attacks, your attention was drawn by a loud groan coming from Zoro's mouth, so you instantly turned your face to look at him, afraid that something happened to him. At hearing your painful lament, Zoro quickly reached you above and knocked the lady off with a single movement of his katana after she tried to attack him a few times. You did the same with the other weird assistant as you quickly shot an arrow at his leg while he was trying to attack Zoro from behind, making him loudly roll down the stairs. Your legs gave up on you after that shot, as the pain that was coming from your wound was unbearable. Zoro's arms embraced your small figure instantly, preventing you from falling onto the ground, your features displaying discomfort.
"Look at me, look at me" He muttered frenetically as his hand delicately held your face, while you were resting inside his arms.
You tried to say something but you were too weak to do so as you were slowly losing consciousness. The last thing you remembered before blacking out was Zoro's worried face staring down at you.
Summary: Zoro and you always tease each other, pretending not to like one another, but you both start to accept your feelings when something happens at kaya's dinner party.

You entered Luffy's crew after they found you trapped in a cage inside Buggy's circus. You had been serving the clown since your village was attacked, and your father was killed while trying to stop them from taking you away from him, but that was all useless. Buggy wanted your medical skills for all of himself since you were known to be one of the best doctors in the entire Oriental Sea. Having healed almost every wound of the residents of your small village after every pirate attack, being placed side by side with your experienced father, led you to become what you were today. Not only were you intelligent and well-trained, but you were also good at archery. You had started training after the very first raid as you wanted to be able to defend yourself and your father at all costs, but that didn't help. They were always too much for you to handle by yourself.
Your train of thoughts was interrupted as Nami asked you with a worried tone if you were feeling okay. You smiled at her and nodded as you didn't want to ruin the good atmosphere at Kaya's dinner party. You always found yourself reminiscing on the old times, especially when someone mentioned the death of one of their loved ones as Kaya did while talking to Luffy. You couldn't help but wonder the reason why she was feeling sick, trying to focus on her symptoms to find a way to cure her. She seemed a nice girl, not deserving of her unfair fate. You looked at your side only to find Zoro drinking his 10th glass of wine, unbothered by the situation as he always did.
"What's wrong this time, doc? Am I drinking too much for your taste?" he said with a mocking tone after noticing your judging stare on him.
"Your life, your choices green-head," you replied sternly, looking anywhere but at him. You couldn't stand his piercing gaze, or at least this is what you were always trying to say to yourself. In reality, you were constantly drawn to them, but you refused to admit it. You heard him shifting in his seat, only to notice his body getting closer to yours a few seconds later.
"Don't look at me like that, then," he whispered a few inches away from your face, making you startle a little.
"Or what? Are you going to slice me with your swords? Who would help you with your wounds?" You taunted him while looking straight at his brown mysterious eyes. At this point, your faces were mere inches away from each other.
"I don't need your assistance, Doc. I can take care of myself, " he hissed, glaring back at you with a darting stare. Your face was so close to his that you could feel his warm breath on your right cheek. The only thing you could think about was how big and delicate his lips seemed. You thanked Luffy for interrupting that moment as the both of you were now looking at him walking on the table with a glass in his hand. You didn't catch what he was saying as you couldn't relax having Zoro by your side, the image of his lips a few inches away from yours still wandering inside your mind. You scrolled your head to keep these embarrassing thoughts away before watching Kaya getting up to exit the room while mumbling about letting the others and you stay in for the night. The striding sound of your chair moving echoed inside the room as you quickly got up, wanting to put space between Zoro and you.
"I'm going to see if Kaya needs my assistance," you said to the crew, trying to look at anyone but at Zoro. Everyone nodded except him, who was drinking his glass of wine still seated around the table unbothered, making your blood boil inside your veins. You left the room with a silent grunt, not understanding why he acted that way with everyone, but especially with you. You thought that maybe you did something that hurt him in some way, but that didn't excuse his behaviour. If you did something wrong, he should have just confronted you about it, but maybe you were asking for a bit too much. He was a man, after all.
After having spent at least 10 minutes wandering around Kaya's mansion, you were starting to think that you were definitely lost.
"Is everything okay, Miss?" the waiter's voice echoed around the hallway, making you stop in your tracks. You turned around before noticing the two weird assistants looking at you from across the corridor.
"I was looking for Kaya's bedroom, I would like to help her with her illness" you answered sincerely while giving them a small smile.
"So sweet of you! unfortunately, Miss Kaya doesn't want to be bothered when she is in her bedroom" the lady with the weird hairstyle answered with a smirk on her face.
"I just want to ease her coughing, I'm sure she won't mind it," you said trying to be convincing, but something about them was off and you felt it. The two of them shared a strange look and then the other one spoke with a grin on his face.
"Krahador already provided Miss Kaya with her healing tea, you don't have to worry about it anymore Miss".
"Maybe I can check her tea and make her something that can help her more" you replied with a wide smile.
"No...I don't think so," the strange lady said smirking. You were about to ask her why she said that, but you felt something hard hitting your head and then nothing else.
An intense muddy scent filled your nose as soon as you regained consciousness. You could feel all of your senses coming back at you as you felt an itching pain coming from both your head and back. You forced yourself to open your eyes only to be met with a horrible sight: Merry was laying down next to you dead. Your flight and fight response pushed you to crumble backward fast but something hit your back hard, which made you startle again. You quickly stood up and turned, shock filling your features as your eyes landed on Zoro's figure laying on the swampy ground of what seemed a very deep well.
"Zoro!", You ran to his side and started to shake his body with your hands, desperately trying to wake him up.
"Please, please don't be dead" you whimpered while cupping his soft face with your hands. His eyes shot wide open as you were about to check if he was still breathing through his nose, your face mere inches away from his.
"y/n? What happened?" he mumbled weakly, still trying to regain power over his body.
"Thank god you are okay, I thought that someone finally managed to kill you," you said while quickly getting up, trying to play the part of the unrelieved one. He got up with a noisy grunt before cleaning his pants with a quick movement of his hand while glaring at you.
"Oh really? so why were you pleasing me not to be dead a few seconds ago?" he said with a huge smirk on his face.Your cheeks instantly became red at hearing what he said, which was terribly true, and you knew it.
"You must have hit your head pretty hard, poor Zoro" you mocked him, but in reality, you knew that your heart stopped for a long moment when you saw him in that horrible state and it was definitely because of a deeper reason. He rolled his eyes and then started to analyze the surroundings, trying to look for a way to escape.
"So why are you here?" you asked him while carefully scanning the area for a way out as well.
"I could ask you the same question, Doc" he replied sternly while picking up his swords from the ground.
"Can you please stop being a sassy queen for a freaking moment? I'm trying to catch up with this situation. " You barked at him, tired of his usual rude behaviour. At hearing your words, he clenched his jaw and then looked anywhere but at you.
"Fine, I don't want to know," you said frenetically as you quickly reached the rocky wall of the well, having the intention of climbing your way out.
"What are you trying to do?" Zoro said with a mix of confusion and annoyance in his tone.
"I'm looking at the stars...What do you think I'm doing?" you mocked him while trying to figure out where to put your foot to start the climb.
"You are going to get hurt" he mumbled as he picked up a grappling hook in his hands.
"No, I won't," you said through gritted teeth as you pushed yourself up, steading your foot on a small rocky ledge.
A small giggle left Zoro's mouth as he watched you aggressively find your way up the wall while swearing under your breath with each push.
"What's so funny Kiwi-head? Why are you standing there doing nothing?" you grunted as you finally reached another small ledge. You were almost halfway through.
"I'm waiting here in case you fall," he teased you with a smirk on his face.
As you were about to tell him to screw himself, you accidentally put one of your feet on an unstable protrusion, which broke under your weight, making you lose your balance. You shouted as you fell tremendously, already feeling the terrible pain that would have followed after that horrible fall, but instead of meeting the muddy humid ground, you felt two muscled arms surrounding your waist and back.
"Are you okay?" Zoro said distressed, looking at you with wide-open eyes.
Your heart was loudly bumping inside your chest as you looked at him with shocked eyes, your faces mere inches away from each other, again.
"Y-yes" you whispered with a shaky voice, still looking at him.
A few seconds passed and he was still embracing your small figure, his right arm tight around your lower back while your left hand was resting on his shoulder. Both of you were still breathing heavily, still a bit horrified from what happened, but that didn't stop you from feeling the multitude of butterflies dancing inside your stomach as he was staring deep into your eyes. You noticed his face getting closer to yours slowly, so you closed your eyes instinctively, already feeling the warmth of his lips on yours. As you were about to kiss, something moved behind Zoro's back, making you both startle, interrupting the moment. You cleared your voice with a slight guttural noise, clearly embarrassed about what would have happened if nothing hadn't stopped you, so Zoro let go of you by slowly putting your feet on the ground. As soon as he did so, you felt an itching pain coming from your right foot but you decided not to care about it at that exact moment.
"So what do we do now?" you asked him perplexed, trying not to meet his gaze.
"Let's see if this works" he replied before throwing the grappling hook as hard as he could to reach the top of the well, but unfortunately he didn't succeed as it came down a few seconds later.
"We need to climb, Zoro. There is no other way," you said defeated after letting out a noisy sigh from your shivering mouth. It was getting colder every passing minute and the high levels of humidity inside that well didn't help at all. He looked at you and then nodded, reaching the rocky wall. As soon as you began to walk towards it, the sharp pain you felt on your right foot became more persistent, making you hiss in discomfort.
"What's wrong?" Zoro said worried, quickly running by your side.
"I think my ankle is dislocated, it must have happened when I fell" you mumbled through your gritted teeth as you couldn't bear the ache. He sighed deeply before carefully positioning your body behind him.
"Hold on my shoulders, I will carry you up" he ordered without hesitation.
"What? How? We are going to fall again" you replied shocked by his statement.
"We won't. Trust me, y/n" he said looking at you with determination in his gaze.
You let out a deep breath and then nodded before carefully surrounding his hips with your legs and his neck with your arms. You didn't know why but your cheeks became so red that your face seemed a tomato. You thanked god that he couldn't see it or you would have buried yourself instantly. Having your body so close to his made you feel butterflies in your stomach again as well as making your heart rate increase. You wondered if he could sense it while he started to effortlessly climb the rocky wall. With every push that he made, a loud grunt left his mouth, his feet and hands carefully moving not to make mistakes while you tried to hold on to him as tight as you could. You could feel his shoulder muscles shift under your chest, making you sweat profusely. You mentally kicked yourself for thinking about it while you were in that horrible situation.
"Everything okay?" you whispered into his ear after he stopped for a second.
"Yes," he said as he let out another grunt while pushing himself up.
You were almost near the top when one of his hands slipped out, making you both lose balance. Thanks to his quick reflexes, he managed to regain control of the situation as he grabbed another steadier ledge.
"Are you okay?" he mumbled out of breath.
"We both should stop asking it, it has become a bad habit" you joked to ease the anxious moment you just had, making Zoro giggle a little.
It was the first time you saw him genuinely smile at you and that made your heart miss one beat. After a long five minutes or so, Zoro managed to reach the top, finally breaking both of you free from that stupid well.
"Thank you, Zoro," you said smiling when you eventually stood on your own feet again.
He smiled back at you and that was all you needed from him.
"Let's find the others now," you said, determined.
