In 1981, a pale, towering figure dressed in black was spotted lurking in Mineral Point’s Graceland Cemetery. When an officer gave chase, the "vampire" leapt a fence and vanished into the night. Over the years, this strange creature resurfaced—harassing tenants of an apartment building from a nearby tree in 2004, then terrifying a young couple at Ludden Lake in 2008. They watched in horror as the pale-faced figure crawled from beneath a pier on the lake and chased them into the dark. To this day, no one knows who—or what—it was. The legend of the Mineral Point Vampire lives on.
