The tea seems to grow bitter, tainted by the thoughts of Kiku in spite of his relative distance. To her, heâs a plague of sorts; on her mind, and on her precious land. Heâs Tokyo and Yokosukaâs problem for the most part, but she still feels disgust more intensely. The tea is put down, she needs a rest from it for now, and though she misses the warmth, she would rather it taste as good as it did at the beginning of the conversation.
