From my little room in the Nurses Quarters I can see the main road through Toowoomba, aka, Warrego Highway aka truck central. I'm pretty damn close. I woke up several times last night thinking I was going to die, purely because of the giant semi trailers driving past. Plus, some guy decided to start mowing under my window at 6:45 in the morning. Welcome to day 2 of six weeks.
I stopped trusting news outlets a long time ago. That's when I became an ignorant young person who had no idea about what happens in our world. I feel a lot of guilt about that. I wish that I was more educated about current events, that I made an effort to understand the world. I could certainly make more informed choices, and I could achieve a greater understanding about my impact. However, the reason I stopped trusting news was because I saw bias. First this came to me via AFL, and the inability to report accurately about my favourite team. I felt this was unfair, but I moved on, Next, I realised how much news papers and television channels had the ability to distort a story. They could report only one view, they could blow minor details out of proportion. I believe that entire elections could be swayed just by the way the media decides to report on our leaders and their policies. Today, I hear headlines, depicting one thing, only for the actual content to tell another entirely. I have always been scared of the influence the media has over the public's beliefs and views. However, now I am deeply disturbed. I am hearing everyday of the chaos surrounding Terrorism. I hear of extreme racism occurring right across the country. I strongly believe this is due to the fear instilled by the media. Our country may be under threat. It also may not be. Regardless, I know in my heart that all people who follow Islam are not to blame. Islam does not teach hate, it does not instil anger. This hurt that is terrorism, is the fault of people who have taken Islam too far, they have misinterpreted the meaning of the Koran, their lives have been damaged beyond recognition for some reason or another, filling them with hate and scorn for the world. They are not every single Muslim person living in your community. They are not the babies in the prams of Muslim mothers. They are not the women who simply want to pick their children up from school. They are certainly not every single remotely dark skinned person in the community. I believe the media makes us ignorant, it sways our views, it makes us fearful and violent and angry in the wrong ways, instead of educating us about our world. I do not trust the media.

This is something I achieved today! With a little bit of encouragement from a friend and so much focus, my feet came a little bit off the ground! Hopefully one day I'll hold it like this!

Never ever ever house sitting again. I am cursed. Shit just goes wrong every time.
What if we just lived our lives with a little more compassion and understanding? Focused on the positive, rather than what should and could happen? Would that make us smile just a little bit more?
My mother is the strongest, most beautiful woman I know. I am so proud of her for everything she is doing for my nanna. I would do anything to be half the person she is.
I think all I ever needed in my life was a man who knows the words to all of Savage Garden's songs by heart.
The music from the party across the road is so loud I could have another party in my own bedroom. Which would be okay if I wasn't sick and miserable and just wanted sleep.
I'm so happy and so in love that I just want to tell the whole world. Like, shout it from the rooftops. I just want to share this feeling.
