I know it’s a common thing to kinda keep in the tara/amber dynamic as (ex) girlfriends but ALSO consider this: unrequited feelings on amber’s end. it’d still fit quite well with the way like half of the things amber says in the film is either to or about tara (lmaoo) and how I think amber is definitely fixated on her in some capacity. like...just thinking thoughts.

as much as it’s obvious that amber can be a bit snarky and annoying — it’s worth mentioning that she can also be quite caring and protective. how much of that is always genuine?? up for debate...but I think she just kind of feels and acts in such extremes that sometimes lines blur between genuine care and concern vs the facade she puts on.

Amber did care for Tara, but in the way that somehow it was both too much and not enough. The thought of anyone hurting her filled her with so much anger, her selfish sister, the stupid boys at school. And yet, the thought of her being the one to kill her barely even made her flinch. When she visits Tara in the hospital, after being the one to attempt slicing her open in the first place, she finds it easy to lie. To smile and dote, to ask how she’s doing.

❝I just wish I could’ve done something,❞ Amber says. Such a good liar. She’ll play the part she needs to play, the worried lover, the protective best friend. She’ll lie through her teeth and it’d be okay, Tara would be okay. Because Tara was strong and hers, always hers. Even if that meant eventually she’d have to be the one to kill her.
