El-cian makes even less sense as a pairing. There’s been two books before ACoSF now with nothing furthering this pairing except they have a mate bond. Elain still wants zero to do with it and Lucien. The seeds have been more there for Elriel so them being revealed to being into each other in Az’s POV is not a shock.

I like Gwyn! I hope she’s not an angst device or being used to add conflict into an Elain/Az pairing. If Gwynr*el do end up endgame I would hope it’s given justice in the writing to support it. Right now there’s just the stuff with Az’s shadows playing with her cold breathe/song and him leaving her the necklace that elain appeared to give back to him, and him smiling to himself imagining her liking the gift. Which yeah, I can see how people can ship and run with that. But he literally is also right before clearly shown to be enough into Elain to risk going to war for her.

Buuuuit actually what’s really pissing me off is the basically gross assumption Elain and Az won’t get together because of her pelvis, and people who want El to end up with Lucian so Gwynr*el can happen, and are like “she hasn’t even really given Lu a chanceeee!” That is some yikes on bikes to me in terms of El’s own agency when it’s been show clearly since ACOWAR Elain doesn’t want to be his mate, doesn’t want anything to do with him, becomes less herself around him, and frankly, she doesn’t owe him shit in terms of “she should try to know him/give him a chance!” Again, she doesn’t owe him anythiiiiiiiing bond be damned. Would people even ship them if there was no bond? Yeah prob not as that’s literally the only thing tying them. Oh but he’s heir to Day Court and elain could rule there with him because she’s soooo liiight and day court is perfect for her! Again, that wouldn’t make her happy at all, she does not want to be with him at all and it’s getting kind of gross at this point to expect she will without the story actually supporting it and honestly for some who want their Az with someone else ship to happen so Elain needs to be with someone else. And because of like one line from Cassian’s (sorry wrote nesta before) POV that black makes Elain look lifeless/rediculous in it doesn’t mean she’s not doing well at Night Court or miserable or belongs in other courts. Yeah Hewn City is sketch but remember Velaris is depicting as beautiful and night court as a good court and full of good people, not super darkness gloom and doom. Like spring court sounded pretty at first but then we saw it’s a pretty lie and was rotten inside. The other courts aren’t perfect either. I feel like people are really latching onto Elain not being able to be happy in or handle Night Court for shipping reasons and I feel that really underestimates her as a character and make me wonder if people actually like her as her own character or just want Lucien to have a happy ending or another ship outside of Elriel to be endgame because otherwise if some of these things thrown out make me think no, some people do not care about elain herself.

Bridgerton series reaction (from a fan of books)

Okay, I’ve watched all 8 episodes and here’s my take.

The series respects the world of the books while also being its own thing.

Some characters have different or amped up personalities compared to the books, like Nigel and Mrs. Featherington.

By contrast they definitely made Lady Danbury nicer and less cutting in the TV show.

They also added storylines for the other Bridgerton siblings that weren’t in the books to give them more story and feel for their characters before their own main storylines kick in, which is nice.

The main story, Daphne and Simon’s romance, felt on par with the books and the actors definitely have chemistry that’s smoking later on when they get physical.

I was surprised the show included the controversial scene in the book between Daphne and Simon that many readers did not like, though it’s interesting how the show handled it as being more a discovery or confirmation stemming from sheltered naivety (which still doesn’t excuse Daphne’s actions at all)

Overall I enjoyed it and the bumblebee at the end had me delighted as I’m sure it’s a nod to Anthony’s story next since bees are a big part of that.

Two quibbles tho- where the fuck is the Smythe-Smith musicale? And next season better have Pall Mall played.

I actually like the overly embellished costuming, there is a light fairy tale/fantastical feel. The visuals feel like gorgeous confection
