About Me

I'm a fic writer (@dreaminonao3) and I have a full-time job, so I'm not nearly as prolific a writer as I'd like to be.

I'm over 40, though you'd be forgiven for thinking I'm half that by how enthusiastic I get about my fandoms. :)

I'm a nonpracticing Catholic and I have a lot of issues with the Church. (I'm pro-choice. Despite what the Church says, thoughtcrimes are definitely NOT sins. And a few other issues.) At this point, I doubt I'll ever be back in the Church's good graces, but then it'll never be back in mine either, so we're even.

Besides being raised Catholic, I was raised in a conservative Republican household. 2016-2020 really opened my eyes about how wrong the GOP is, though I was starting to see the light before then. I now vote Democrat but I'm currently still registered as a Republican and I will change it to Democrat when I move. I'm in a very red state but my current county is becoming more and more blue with each passing election year.

I'm very pro-ship. Write whatever you want, just tag it appropriately. Depiction ≠ glorification. Fictional characters are not real people, so you can do anything you want to them since you are not hurting a real person. Fiction is not required to give any moral lessons (or any other kind of lessons, for that matter).

I'm self-diagnosed as having mild ADHD. It's not enough to ruin my life but it really shows in my attention span when it comes to what fandom(s) I'm currently obsessed with and how long that obsession lasts. Thankfully, most fandoms I move away from circle back eventually. It also explains why most of my fics are either short one-shots or multi-chaps I take forever to finish (if I finish them at all).

I'm an adult and I sometimes curse. You know, "adult language." Got a problem with that? Block me.

I love rarepairs, non-canon ships, and canon/oc ships. After being in various fandoms for over twenty years, I'm at the point where I don't trust show/movie writers to not fuck up canon ships. Give me the ships no canon can sink. ;)

The thing is you can have a grassy lawn or even a golf course without it being an ecological disaster, you just have to a: be cool about having the occasional non-grass plant in the mix and b: be willing to live in a climate that supports grass without irrigation.

Golf courses in California are an abomination which is why the sport was in fact invented in Scotland.

I always thought that golf as a sport should be adapted to the local native landscape. I think this will encourage regional pride when local golfers completely trounce visitors at Swamp Golf, Desert Golf, Forest Golf, etc. Rich tourists will be pressured to travel extensively to experience all forms of golf, instead of staying in their backyard country club golf courses. Internet discourse will probably somehow get worse but I think this is a small price to pay.

So my dad was the assistant music editor on Tarzan, and idk if it was Bring Your Kid to Work Day or something but one day he did just that so there I was, this incredibly small 1st grader, in an absolutely cavernous recording studio with a full orchestra and a giant screen playing the scene they were taping the score for, and my little brain couldn't handle the big music and the big movie happening all at once so I started crying and it was the first time music ever brought me to tears and it was too much to take in so we stepped out of the studio and ran directly into Phil Collins, who looked to me very much like my dad, and in my delicate emotional state I became immediately convinced that my dad had been copied and nobody had told me so I started crying harder, and Phil Collins said something that was probably meant to be calming but it was with a British accent so I thought there was a copy of my dad in every country and I absolutely lost it at the notion that other kids would get to have my dad, and my dad ended up having to carry me back to the car.

So.

Sorry for crying very loudly at you Phil Collins, your work on Tarzan was so moving it triggered my first emotional breakdown.

I was once talking to my 75 year old Chinese dad in passing about a trans friend of mine not getting along with her family and he asked why and I said err, because she's trans, dad.

He asked: "Oh, was she the only son or something before *waves hand*?" and I was like, warily, no she has two brothers. And he responded with a great deal of confusion: "Then what's their problem?!?!"

Later on: "Anyway, even if she WAS the only son, that's not her problem, that's THEIR problem. They should have had more sons if they were going to be bothered about it."

Knowing what I know about chinese culture there’s something so beautifully simple about his logic of “no son to carry on family name/look after them in old age/all the other stuff? Skill issue! Should’ve had more sons! Should’ve kept the family unit strong yourself! Blaming your daughter for your own failure of family planning is W E A K!” and then he learns there are more sons and it completely breaks his train of logic because if yes to more sons then why issue?? You have two others and you’re mad you don’t have three?? Whack. Greedy.

I can already envision him as an ancient lord of a powerful house looking down his nose at the latest messenger bringing gossip from the house of his offspring’s friend and going “now they have a daughter to marry into another family for powerful alliances and two sons to take over her former duties and somehow they’re still complaining about their good fortune? They shall not survive the winter.” and then sipping his tea with all the grim satisfaction of someone about to watch an unnecessary soap opera of drama unfold from a safe distance or something
