(Not proofread, we die like weems 🤷♀️)
The only sound to be heard in the Addams-Sinclair dorm was the clacking of typewriter keys as Wednesday’s fingers moved across the keyboard, every movement purposeful and calculated. The room had become dim since the sun had began to set, yet neither girl had moved to turn on a light.
Enid loved that she was actually allowed inside Wednesday’s space while she wrote, now, even if she had to be still and silent. She smiled to herself as she remembered the first time.
There was a sudden pause in Wednesdays fevered typing and her head jolted upwards. For a second Enid thought a vision was imminent, but Wednesday spoke, proving her wrong. “Enid, you may sit with me while I write, if you like.”
“Oh em gee, actual wife privileges.” Enid had been laying on her bed, mindlessly scrolling through blog posts, but she soon jumped up at the sound of such an intoxicating invitation.
“I wasn’t aware we got married. If I was in a state of inhibition during our marriage, I can have it annulled.”
Enid rolled her eyes as she crossed the room to Wednesdays desk, pulling up a chair as she skipped up to her roommate. Once sitting, she was silent for a few seconds as she scrolled through something on her phone, but then she glanced up. “Wednesday, this doesn’t have to be a thing you know? Just because we’re dating doesn’t mean you have to do things you’re not comfortable with.”
“I want you next to me. Just don’t distract me.”
Enid had reached out and taken Wednesday’s hand then, just as she was about to begin typing again. “Thank you.” She said as Wednesday turned to look at her, dark eyes locking with blue. “For letting me in.”
“I would class this as a distraction.” Wednesday pulled her hand from Enid’s, but the slightest twitch at the corner of her lips told Enid that Wednesday wasn’t mad, as did the way Wednesday took Enid’s hand in return and gently stroked her thumb across her knuckles before returning her attention to her writing.
“Huh?” Wednesday’s voice pulled Enid from the memory. “What?” A quick glance at her phone told her that Wednesday’s writing hour didn’t end for another ten minutes. “What’s wrong? You still have a few minutes left.”
“I can tell that you have something you want to say to me. I don’t wish to make you wait any longer.”
“Oh, no. It’s not important Wednesday. Finish your hour. Wait, how could even tell?”
“You’re breathing more loudly than usual, you keep checking the time and you’re practically sitting on my lap.”
“I am not.” Enid objected, but as directed by Wednesday’s gesture she looked down and saw that her knee was indeed touching Wednesday’s. “Well, yeah, okay. Sure, I’m a little closer than usual, but to say I’m sitting on your lap is actually ludicrous. Wednesday, you do know we’re dating, right? Our knees touching isn’t exactly … physical contact is something you’re gonna have to get used to sometime. Or do you just not want … cos that’s okay, i wouldn’t ever -”
“Enid, stop. Please.” Wednesday pushed her chair away from the desk and looked at Enid expectantly. Enid wasn’t entirely sure what was wanted of her, so instead she stared at Wednesday, eyes wide, a blush creeping across her cheeks.
This earned a sigh from Wednesday. “Come here.”
Enid stood slowly and moved towards Wednesday a little hesitantly.
“I don’t bite. Well, actually that’s not entirely accurate.” A statement that caused Enid’s eyes to widen, because who even knew what such a statement meant when coming from Wednesday Addams?
Wednesday held out her arms for Enid to step into, then pulled her girlfriend down onto her lap.
Enid immediately relaxed once she knew what was happening. To be held in Wednesday’s arms felt nothing but safe. In that moment she felt that nothing or no one could ever penetrate the cocoon of their relationship. No one could ever harm her - not Tyler, not her mom, not anything on earth. Wednesday simply wouldn’t allow for it, and Enid knew that Wednesday didn’t compromise - except for her.
“It hasn’t escaped my attention that our requirements for physical touch differ, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t wan’t a physical connection with you. I’m merely not accustomed to such. I hope that you can change that.”
Enid nodded. “I will. I can. I just,” She ran the tips of her fingers along Wednesday’s thighs, “I don’t want to rush anything. I rushed with Ajax and look how that turned out.”
“Please don’t compare our relationship to the lack of a relationship you had with that imbecile. The fact that I can form two consecutive sentences makes them incomparable.”
Enid let out a snort before quickly recovering a serious facade and nudgding Wednesday. “Wednesday! Don’t be mean.”
“It’s not mean, it’s simply accurate. Anyway, I know you had something to tell me. What is it?”
“Oh, that. It’s, uh. It’s nothing important.”
“It was important to you. That’s makes it important to me.”
“No, Weds, seriously, you’re gonna actually murder me when you know why exactly you ended your writing hour early.” A nervous giggle escaped Enid
“Enid, it’s fine. My fingers were cramping anyway. Please, just tell me.”
“Oh,” Enid said softly, before gently resting her head against Wednesday’s shoulder. She knew that Wednesday would never give in to a mere finger cramp. She really had paused her writing time just for her. “Um,” another nervous chuckle escaped Enid as she realised how unimpressed her raven was going to be once she knew the reason for the disturbance. “Well,”
“Enid, my patience has its limits, even for you. What is it?”
“Okay, so” Enid lifted her head but wrapped her arms around Wednesdays waist for better anchorage. Where Wednesdays shirt lifted slightly, exposing just a small area of skin, Enid’s Fingers lightly traced Wednesdays exposed hip. She felt Wednesday stiffen slightly in response, but she relaxed. That was enough to tell Enid that Wednesday was comfortable. “I’m kinda worried you’re gonna be mad, but I found this joke earlier and I think you’ll like it.”
Wednesday sighed. “The real joke her is me, for thinking you had something of actual substance to tell me. But as I said, if it is important to you, it’s important to me. Go ahead.”
“What do you call a cat that was caught by the police?”
“I would call him by his name.”
“No, Weds!” Enid playfully slapped Wednesday's shoulder. “You’re not that dense. Do it properly.”
“Fine. I have no idea what you would call a cat that was caught by the police. Please enlighten me, Enid.”
Enid bit her lip for a second, holding back a grin. “The purrpatrator.” Enid held her smile as she searched Wednesday's face for a reaction. She didn’t expect Wednesday to laugh, but … yes! The smallest twitch at the corner of her mouth. It was enough for Enid. “Yes!” Far too over excited she slipped from Wednesday's lap and punched the air. “You smiled! I knew I could make you smile. That’s ten bucks Yoko owes me.”
Then Enid noticed a furrowing of Wednesday’s brows, a look of confusion. “Weds are you okay?”
“This whole thing? Was for a bet? That’s the only reason you did any of this? It was the only reason you felt the need to try to make me smile?”
Was that disappointment that Enid heard in Wednesdays voice? It was easy to forget sometimes that Wednesdays felt as much as anyone else - she simply expressed it differently. “Oh no, Wednesday. I,” Enid took Wednesdays face in her hands, cupping her jaw gently, making sure her own eyes looked directly into Wednesdays. “Wednesday Addams, I love you. I want to make you smile because I love you. The bet was just a stupid joke.” She dropped her hands away and noticed that Wednesday was staring at her blankly. “It’s okay, I don’t need you to say it back. I just needed you to know.” Enid knew that Wednesday loved her too; some days it was hard to remember, Wednesday made it hard to remember, but other days, the days when Wednesday did the little things … like ending her writing hour eight minutes early, Enid knew.
“Enid, I never expected to say these words to anyone. I vowed that I would never allow myself to fall prey to cupid's arrow, but you have been making that vow impossible to keep since the day you first napalmed my senses. I love you too, Enid.”
