Y'all so I love Gaara and i'm tired of people not talking about how genuinely strong that guy is.
When he talks about how he was able to change, he always gives all the credit to Naruto, saying, "he saw my pain and reached his hand out to me, he saw me as a friend even though i had just tried to kill him"
But in reality, all Naruto said was that he understands gaara's pain but can now live happily because he has people who accept him, and that he can be so strong because he fight to protect those people
Now i'd like to point out, Gaara had previously seen people protect the ones they love from him, but that just made him more sad and angry
Naruto didn't even actually see Gaara as a friend, he just saw him as someone he can relate to (of course until Gaara reached out on his own)
Which means, the only thing that Naruto showed him was that even someone like him can be happy
Y'all, after all that pain, suffering and angst, all that boy needed was to see someone like him being happy
Most people would get jealous and feel even more hatred towards someone who's like them but is happy, yet Gaara saw that as a chance to become a better person.
From seeing Naruto, he realized that what he needs to do in order to be so happy too, is to find people to protect and love.
Most people would wait for people to accept them again, but he took it all in his own hands, accepted that he was wrong (which is, by the way, extremely hard for most people), went from wanting to kill everyone to loving everyone, became the leader of the people who had aways hated him, earning their respect. He was able to change his mindset, his entire being just because he saw one boy who was like him but happy and loved.
If that's not true strength, i don't know what is, change my mind i'm ready to fight
