It is devastating to Wesal that she has lost her main account, @shahdgazza, which was very important to her. Especially at a time like this when Farah is doing so badly.

Farah is not okay. She is suffering a lot from what her body has been through - the lack of potassium supplements, the flea bites, the inflammation of the open sores that these resulted in.

And then, as an autistic 15-year-old, having to be in the hospital all day, going from one department to the next. This has exhausted her, resulting in her lying on the bed crying - because she has no other way to express her emotions.

"My child is so tired, Oedie. No one can feel what she's going through like I can, because I'm the one who sees her, understands her, and understands her cries even if she doesn't speak words. Farah isn't okay and I'm not okay either."

I have been talking with @shahdgazza for a while now. They've had two fundraising campaigns from which the money was stolen, which means they haven't been able to buy the medication that their daughter Farah needs.

I have a friend who has a chronic kidney disease. He recently started dialysis for the first time and had to start working part-time. He's waiting on a kidney donation now.

Fun fact, I actually tried to donate my kidney recently (indirectly, i.e. to someone I don't know; my friend doesn't want a kidney from someone they know and I decided it entirely independently from their situation as well; chances are we aren't even a match anyway), but unfortunately I will need to have a steady income before I can actually do it, so I'll have sick leave while I'm recovering.

I still very much intend on donating a kidney as soon as I am able! I was completely cleared medically and everything!!

So it's almost like fate (if I believed in such a thing) that I ended up hosting Farah's fundraiser. Farah is a fiteen-year-old autistic girl from Gaza with chronic kidney failure. Her kidneys leak potassium which has caused hypokalaemia. Hypokalaemia weakens the muscles, which can affect the heart muscle as well. She desperately needs to take medication to avoid her getting any sicker and potentially die, but her family can currently not afford it.

"I cry bitterly, the war is back"

Today I was able to send the first batch of money to Wesal (@shahdgazza). It should reach her soon, and she will be able to buy medicine for her daughter Farah, a fifteen-year-old autistic girl with chronic kidney disease.

I cannot thank you enough for standing by her side by sharing her fundraiser and donating to it. They have been without any support for so long, and you have shown that this is no longer the case.

What I've sent her should allow her to buy at least enough medicine for a month for Farah, which is very necessary because her condition has been deteriorating and her body cannot handle much more. But she will need more in the future.

In the meantime, Israel has started bombing Gaza again after Netanyahu told the military to "carry out powerful strikes". Wesal told me they were bombing for four hours straight. She sent me a harrowing sound clip of people screaming in what I imagine was the aftermath of a bombing.

My heart breaks when I hear this. Do not forget the people in Gaza. They are still going through the worst of times and need your continued support!

Farah, a fifteen-year-old autistic girl with chronic kidney disease from Gaza sends her greetings to you all, and thanks you for sharing this post.

Farah desperately needs medication for her kidneys. They leak potassium, a chronic condition for which she is usually medicated, but her parents haven't been able to afford it over the past year. This has caused hypokalaemia, which has affected the muscles in her legs. If she is not properly medicated soon, it could also affect her heart.

The medication she needs is available, but her parents cannot afford it right now. That is why I started a fundraiser for Farah, to raise the money to support her and her family. You can also donate via Paypal.

"I want to say to everyone who has mercy in his heart, take action for Farah. What are you waiting for? She is an innocent child who does not speak, but her tears are more honest than all words."

This is what Wesal, Farah's mother, told me to tell you all about her fifteen-year-old daughter Farah, a fifteen-year-old autistic girl with chronic kidney failure.

Her kidneys leak potassium, for which she hasn't been properly medicated for over a year. Farah needs to take two pils 3x/day, but because her parents cannot afford to buy more, her mother can only give her one per day now.

The longer this goes on, the worse Farah's health will get, until her heart gives out. Cardiac arrest is a very possible and extremely serious complication of severe potassium deficiency, which is what Farah is suffering from now.

So you can understand how scared Wesal is that she will lose her daughter.

Something that people who have never had periods might not know is that it can be quite a bit to manage. Not only because it is a bloody mess (literally), and you need access to and need to be able to afford period products. It can also be the cause of physical discomforts that range from slightly irritating to completely disabling.

Personally, I'm pretty lucky in that department. My period is fairly regular and lasts five days. I use a menstrual cup and period underwear. I have bloating and light cramping, but nothing that a paracetamol can't handle. When I needed a new menstrual cup recently, it was very easy for me to get one, and I had no trouble affording it. The only thing I really have to worry about is emptying my cup regularly on my heavy days.

What about you?

Farah is a fifteen-year-old autistic girl who lives in Gaza. She depends on her mother and older sisters for everything, from food to washing to clothing. Her mother, Wesal, told me that Farah needs double the attention when her period comes, and those days are very expensive, because a single diaper is $3 these days.

Farah is, of course, an innocent in all this. She deserves to be healthy and happy. Her mother deserves to not have to worry about money to afford not only Farah's diapers, but also the medicine that she needs for her chronic kidney failure, and for which she is currently insufficiently medicated.

Wesal (@shahdgazza) and I are basically the same age. She is 37, I am 36. But we have lived entirely different lives.

She lives under occupation, and I have no idea what that's like. She has six children, while I am child-free. When she had her first child, I was entering university. When her daughter Farah was born, I moved to England to further my education there. I have never been homeless. I have never known hunger. I have never known war.

When we talk to each other, we often say to each other, "Do you understand me?" because we are talking to each other only by the grace of an online translation service.

And yet I never fail to understand her.

When she talks to me about her children, I can feel her love for them reverberating through every word. I can feel her pain as she watches her daughter's health deteriorate. As she sees her life reduced to watching people go about their day, and playing on the phone.

Farah is an autistic girl with kidney failure who is currently not receiving the medication that she needs. It is weighing hard on Wesal, who is fighting so hard to keep her daughter alive.

She even sacrifices her own health, sending out messages all night instead of sleeping, suffering migraines because she wants to spend their little amount of money on her children instead, and carrying fifteen-year-old Farah long distances because she has muscle weakness in her leg due to kidney failure.

"Try to take care of yourself as well, Wesal," I tell her. And she does, she tells me. She does try, because she knows that she has to if she is to be a good mother. And she is.

"But," she says. "Farah's status is above all else. She has the priority."

And I understand. Despite how different our lives have been, I understand her perfectly. Don't you?

I was finally able to create a fundraiser for my friend Wesal (@shahdgazza)! First and foremost, the fundraiser exists to support her fifteen-year-old daughter Farah, who has been unmedicated for over a year for both kidney disease and autism.

Farah's most immediate need is medication for her kidney failure. Her kidneys leak potassium, which means she now has a deficiency. This is very dangerous because it can cause cardiac arrest. Farah has been prescribed Slow-K, which is a potassium supplement. Wesal has told me that this costs $200 dollars for a month of medication. So far, we have been able to raise half of that via Paypal.

Here are some doctor's notes from when Farah was taken to the hospital earlier this month, because she was experiencing muscle weakness as a result of her potassium deficiency:

The fundraiser also aims to support the family as a whole. They are currently very low on food, have no clothes for the winter that is coming, have no home and no income at the moment. Once we are able to stabilise Farah's health, the aim of the fundraiser will be to get this family back on their feet.
