Wesley Kading: NCSC Nurtures Next Generation of Sales Stars
Formerly an account executive with UPS, Inc., Wesley Kading serves as a project strategist and outbound sales director with Reputation.com. While earning his bachelor of business administration at Loyola Marymount University, Kading participated in the National Collegiate Sales Competition and finished in the top 20. Founded in 1999, the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC) holds recognition as the longest-running sales role-play competition in the world. Promoting professionalism and talent, this event welcomes students from across North America who are enrolled in university sales programs. Corporate sponsors, such as FedEx and Automatic Data Processing (ADP), Inc., send representatives to the contest to observe up-and-coming sales professionals. The NCSC also features networking possibilities where students can interact with their peers, sales faculty, and potential employees. Taking place over four days, the event features undergraduate and graduate competitions. During the undergraduate portion, participants make sales calls to fictional businesses and must either obtain a second meeting or complete the sale. Judges evaluate contestants on approach, presentation, rapport, and other elements. The graduate section features two-student teams and places them in three different scenarios: Needs Identification, Team Sales Call and Negotiation, and Follow-Up.
