WeSnap has been Acquired

We’re happy to announce that WeSnap has been acquired by Akkad, an international company based in France with divisions in USA and Bulgaria.

It’s been a great ride over the years! Looking back, we got top voted on Product Hunt, celebrated important days with our loved ones, even though we weren’t next to each other.

We would like to thank our global team of over 20 passionate people with diverse roles, who worked tirelessly to bring WeSnap to life and made it a great company.

We would like to thank our community; thousands of creative people using our app to post amazing split photos that motivated us to keep working harder.

We would like to thank everyone who believed in our mission to create memories without borders and helped us along the way.

We couldn’t have achieved this success without you. Many thanks to all of you. I’m forever grateful.

Saturday mornings only mean one thing to a child. SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS! So it is fitting that we bring this post to you today. On the WeSnap app, today is #CartoonDay. “Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?” Some argue the most iconic part of a cartoon is the theme song. Each decade is defined by different cartoons. 90’s kids grew up on Rugrats, Hey Arnold, and Spongebob. The 1960s had the Flintstones and the Jetsons. There have been a handful of shows that have been in the lives of children across multiple generations. Shows like Looney Tunes, the Simpsons Tom and Jerry, and Scooby Doo can still be found on the television today despite their 20th century origins.

It was not until the 19th century, when people discovered and started using color photography; before then, the public merely captured photos with the colors black and white. Join us on a trip back in time through sharing your creative ideas of black and white photos on WeSnap!

While the idea of simply black and white might sound a tad dull, these creative WeSnappers, @hayal and @dwight have created a Snap below, demonstrating a sense of seriousness and an eerie atmosphere, which colored photography, may not be able to capture.

Seeing a photo in black and white can be said as seeing a purer version than the colored one. How is this so? Black and white photos can eliminate the biases we have about certain colors. Removing this bias allows us to perceive a picture with the same standard.

New App Update!

We are excited to announce a new update to the WeSnap app! The update, located on the second tab of the app, allows for an easier way to search the most popular WeSnap images and hashtags..As you can see from the image below, there is now an additional bar with captions reading “Popular”, “#WisdomWednesday”, and “#BlackAndWhite”. The bar continues to scroll to the right and reveal more of the most popular hashtags.

When you click on one of the hashtags, you will be able to see every picture created where the individual hashtag was mentioned in the WeSnap image comments.

Under “Popular”, our app leads you to another page. This time, the posts are not categorized by a certain hashtag but by the most liked. The user can select an individual time period of the day, the week, or the month. The images are then arranged in descending order from most to least liked for that time period.

Check out the new update and tell us what you think! We are excited about making the content better for you as the consumer and we believe we accomplished that.Stay tuned to our blog for future updates of the WeSnap app and for reports on our theme days.

MLB All Star Week

“Take me out to the ball game! Take me out to the crowd!” It’s time once again for the “Midsummer Classic.” Also known as the MLB All-Star game, the event will battle the best players from the American League and the National League. At WeSnap, we want to see where your allegiance lies. Post a photo featuring your favorite players and teams today and tomorrow using the hashtag #MajorLeagueSnaps.

Led by perennial All Stars like Albert Pujols and Josh Donaldson, this year’s Home Run Derby is set up to be one for the ages. The main attraction this year is the Angels’ first basemen, Albert Pujols, who has competed multiple times in the event before but has never taken the crown. This season, Pujols leads the American League in homeruns and hopes to translate that power into the Derby. The Home Run Derby is featuring two rookies this year, Joc Pederson and Kris Bryant of the Dodgers and Cubs respectively. They each hope to use this game to showcase their talent to the country. Tune in to see if these potential stars rise under the pressure of the Home Run Derby!

The All-Star game takes place tomorrow night. Featuring the top talent in the Major Leagues, the game should be a showcase of skill in its purest form. Bryce Harper of the Nationals and Buster Posey of the Giants led the National League in votes, while Josh Donaldson of the Blue Jays and Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers led the American League. All of their players hope to lead their team to victory tomorrow.

NBA All-Star 2015 is here!

Calling all basketball fans!! The game you wait for all year has finally come. All your favorite players are divided up into either the Eastern Conference or Western Conference to compete against each other in the NBA All-Star game. Once a year, the best of the best come together to play in a game to see who really is the greatest. This year, the game will take place at one of the greatest arenas of all time, Madison Square Garden. And who better to host the games other than the big apples own New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets.

With a whole weekend of NBA All-Star events starting Friday February 13, we’ll be keeping you up with the latest details and best moments of the competing players. Pick which side you want to root for, and pick wisely. Feel free to post your own creative halves to complete the photos as well. Go ahead and get creative when completing the halves and show your true fan spirit!

The starting lineup is composed of two guards and three frontcourt players. They were chosen by a fan voting, and the players with the highest amount of votes became the starters. The starting lineup for the Eastern Conference is John Wall, Kyle Lowry, LeBron James, Pau Gasol and Carmelo Anthony. The starting lineup for the Western Conference is Stephen Curry, Kobe Byrant, Anthony Davis, Marc Gasol and Blake Griffin.
