Headcanon: Family Affairs, part 1
[The House of Westergard of the South Seas was blessed (?) with the births of thirteen children, all sons. These are the eldest twelve.]
Anders and Asmund (#1 & 2, age 40) are the eldest and twins. Neither are particularly sure who was born first, but rather than squabble for the crown, as small children, they played a game of rock, paper, scissors for the honor of kingship. Anders won and Asmund conceded (their father still remains completely stunned in amusement as to how this happened), offering to work as his chief advisor and all-around stand-in, just in case. Both get along well together. Also, Asmund knows sign language.
Bernhard (#3, age 39) is a rather stoic serious man who works as a diplomat for their kingdom. He is business before pleasure, no excuses. He generally presides over affairs to the East of their kingdom.
[Anders, Asmund and Bernhard share a single mother—the king’s first wife, while the other ten were born to the king’s second wife.]
Birger (#4, aged 37) is sharper and more severe than his brother Bernhard. He works as a judge for the high courts of their kingdom, and pursues all things in life with the same professional ruthlessness. If he feels a slight has been made against their kingdom’s name or that someone is trying his patience on purpose, he will not hesitate to lengthen a sentence.
Christian (#5, age 36), like Bernhard, works as a diplomat for their kingdom, working generally on the Western side of the continent. Christian is come off as rather stuffy and seems like the person who looks down upon anyone in a lesser position, but he’s usually fairly amiable to all he works with. To him, every man works toward a finer kingdom—if they work together, something good will happen. Also, Christian once caught his wife in bed with another man. After expressing his shock at the situation, he joined in. They kept the fellow.
Claus (#6, age 35) is the head of an entire fleet of merchant ships, keeping track of imports and exports, to and from the kingdom. He keeps himself busy around the ports, making sure all goods ordered by the kingdom itself are accounted for and distributed fairly. He used to make routine trips along the coast, but an accident at sea injured him. An infection set in quickly and his right leg had to be amputated from the knee down because of it. He has a prosthetic now and scuttles along fairly well—enjoying scaring children with it when he can. The loss doesn’t really bother him at all, and if you ask him how it came to be, he’ll give grand lies about it, grinning all the while.
Daniel (#7, age 32) was the first in the family to be gifted a military title (Hans was the third). When 21, after receiving a few years of formal training, he was presented into the position of General of the army. It was under his command in a skirmish in the West that his younger brother David was injured. Daniel became withdrawn at that point, blaming himself.
David (#8, age 30) came into the military a year behind Daniel, taking the position of Lieutenant General. Still in his early twenties, under the command of his brother Daniel—though of no direct fault of his elder brother, the men David was leading came under attack. David sustained fairly severe injuries. But though he recovered well and despite having taken no injuries to the head or throat, he appears unable to speak and has not since the incident. When his condition remained the same for over a year, Asmund brought him to a sign language school, and both learned together. David remains in the military, but further removed from the front lines. Generally he serves as a tactician, or instructs soldiers still learning combat techniques (with an interpreter on hand).
[A break here occurs in the dispositions of the brothers in regards to their youngest brother, Hans. Above this mark, any mistreatment received was generally due to the point that while Hans may have still been young, his elder brothers were busy being trained for their new professions. Aside from having little in common with him because of their age gap, they literally had no time for him.
Below this mark, those closest to Hans in age struck up more destructive relationships with him, gauging from playful, but sharp, to downright cruel.]
Emil (#9, age 29) has successfully worked out a deal with one of the Dutch kingdoms and currently helps co-head a tulip growing operation, as well as the distribution and selling of them across both kingdoms. Toward Hans, Emil takes a shifting stance, constantly changing from a playful-yet-smug attitude, to taking the sides of Esben and Frederik, teasing and taunting their baby brother. Because of this inconsistent treatment, Hans has withdrawn from interactions with Emil.
Esben and Frederik (#10 & 11, age 27) are largely responsible for the majority of the mistreatment against Hans, spanning from cruel insults when no others are listening, to malicious pranks.
Georg (#12, age 26) works within the royal family itself, working as the bookkeeper for all financial matters, making sure everything is sound and accounted for. The stuffy little sod does an excellent job, but growing up, he was far from sweet to Hans, whom he was snide and verbally abusive to. It was also Georg, with Esben and Frederik who pretended that Hans didn't exist for two years.
