West Heights resident Mary Cerruti is missing. She was last seen in the Spring of 2015.
Mary lives on Allston St. in the home behind the Alexan Heights apartment complex.
Police entered her home this summer after receiving calls regarding the residence. Officers did not report finding Mary in the home at that time.
Nearby work crews have told residents that Mary is deceased and that they saw her body removed from the property. So far, both police and private investigators have been unable to substantiate this claim with any public or police records, so neighbors remain hopeful that Mary will be found alive and well.
If you have any information about Mary Cerruti’s whereabouts, please contact Officer Robau of missing persons at (713) 731-5882.

Houston Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone 5 (Memorial Heights) is proposing to annex sections of the West Heights. If you are not familiar with TIRZ’s, you can find a legal description here.
The annexation of this area would mean that increases in city tax revenue over the base year of 2015 would be specifically designated for use within the TIRZ for: infrastructure improvements, parks and related amenities, non-vehicular transportation systems (i.e. hike and bike trials), cultural and public facilities and drainage facilities.
While board members of the TIRZ 5 were unable to commit to specific projects prior to annexation, representatives of the TIRZ suggested that they are looking to:
1) Add amenities to the Rutland Basin (6th St. detention pond) 2) Add a bridge to cross White Oak Bayou near Rutland or Paterson 3) Add connectivity with the MKT Trail
Some of these projects would fall within the current boundaries of TIRZ, and were already budgeted for in the 2015 operating budget.
A public hearing on the annexation is pending.
*Please note that the area near Stude Park is no longer being considered for annexation.

Partial remains of a human torso were found Sunday afternoon in Stude Park in the Heights by volunteers searching for a missing homeless man, according to news reports. Crime scene tape blocked off the area where the badly decomposed shoulder and lower torso was recovered from the park, not far from where the Avon 39 Walk to End Breast Cancer was occurring through the Heights neighborhood. Houston police were unable to determine whether the remains belonged to a male or female.
