Hero’s
"Heroism is a matter of choice," Richard Cohen. This quote is distinguished. For example, you don't have to pick up garbage off the street or give food to people in need, but it would be considered a virtuous act. Heroes are not people with powers they are just average people who do the right thing. A hero is defined by its function, with examples and negation.
To start, the function of a hero is to give people hope and improvement in our lives. Here's an example from my life. When I was a newborn, my biological mother couldn't take care of me anymore because she was high and didn't know how to take care of a baby. She went to Jail a lot, so she couldn't keep me. I got adopted by my mom when I was two years old. If my biological mom still had me, I wouldn't be alive today. I would probably be dead from the moment she would have been supposed to start taking care of me. My mom today and my biological mom are heroes. My mom today is a hero because she stepped up and took care of me. My birth mother is sort of a hero too because she gave me up so I wouldn't have to suffer. Even if people do bad things, they can still be considered heroes because people aren't perfect.
Second of all, three examples of heroes are Melanie Adele Martinez, Alec Benjamin and Gigi Gorgeous. Melanie Martinez doesn't care what other people think of her. She stands up for what she believes in, even if the whole world is against her. Melanie doesn't want to be like normal people because some of the normies judge others because there different. "I'm not a piece of cake for you to just discard" ~ Melanie Martinez. This quote means you shouldn't use someone to get what you want; you might hurt other people by doing that.
Alec Benjamin was born on May 28, 1994 in Phoenix, Arizona. None of his family was associated with music. He was a loner in school and preferred not to get close to anyone. He didn't really care for music back then, however when he started listening to music such as Paul Simon, Eminem, and Dr. Dre, he became interested. He started his involvement with music by singing on his own. His father played music as a hobby. Alec picked up his father's guitar and started playing music. He never gave up on his dreams and he set a goal for high school to study music for college. Once he graduated high school, he stated emailing some artists to determine if they were interested in his music. If he just gave up he would not be in the position he is in today and heroes don't give up that easily.
Finally, there is Gigi Gorgeous. Gigi is a trans-person, one could use the term transgender, and it would be okay, but for her, she advocates for the term trans-person. Gigi has been through bulling, but she won't let those people bring her down. At birth Gigi was named Gregory Lazzarato and was identified by the medical staff as a male. She has always felt like she has been in the wrong body since she was a little boy. Gigi would want to play with dolls and play with the girls on the playground, even though her dad would try to make her play with monster trucks and baseball. Soon Gigi's family realized this wasn't just a phase and began supporting Gigi on her journey. Gigi started getting surgery and got put on hormones. She changed her name legally to Gigi. By the time she turned 19, her mother passed away. It was a tragic time for Gigi and her father. Her mother always stood by her side. Gigi's father explained to Gigi, "Not only have you saved lives, but you have also shown that you accept who you are then it will be easier to stand up for yourself." Gigi would say to the haters in the world, "Happy people do not tear people down; happy people build people up." She explains how people just want to feel good on the inside, so bullies attempt to tear people up to make them feel as miserable as they do.
A hero is defined by its function, with examples and negation. In my opinion, a hero is someone who has empathy or compassion for another person. Compassionate people challenge themselves to smile more, open the door for someone, motivate others, practice acts of kindness and bond with friends and family. People who are compassionate say encouraging words, share a hug or high-five, say thank you and please in their daily routine, help others with their to-do lists and taking time to listen to others. Most importantly, compassionate people respect the privacy of others and volunteer to share their time. Some ways to become a more compassionate person is to open up to others more often, listen, offer physical affection, focus your attention outwards and withhold judgement. Other ways to practice compassion include offering help, practicing curiosity with strangers around your age, volunteering, challenge yourself, using your imagination, practicing your experiential empathy, and treating others as important as you are. We could all use practice enhancing our compassionate natures.
