tagged by @bi-ologie to list 5 of my favorite/most important albums. thanks so much for thinking of me! this is hard since I have pretty eclectic tastes and moods for music, but I think these are a good sample:
our lady of the broken spine (2005) by reverend glasseye*
floodland (1987) by sisters of mercy
abattoir blues/lyre of orpheus (double album) (2004) by nick cave
out of the fence (2019) by a tergo lupi
somewhere in the between (2007) by streetlight manifesto
*reverend glasseye was a local (boston) band that was performing mostly when I was in highschool, and I am maybe the biggest remaining fan lol. the album I cited here has very good recording quality but tbh some of the rawer stuff is even more in my heart. their self titled album is great, the last song is devastating. the frontman later moved to austin and released one more album called these golden threads under the new band name gunmother and that album is also incredible. I've been trying to collect every (mostly non-studio) recording of them to document their entire lineup and how lyrics and even compositions of individual songs changed in different performances... don't get me stahtid on "howling jane" and "christiana". streetlight manifesto is also a boston band and I have embarrassing photos of me showing off the black x'es on my hands from going to their shows as a minor lol.
anyway it was agonizing picking only five, I have to give honorable mention to:
red of tooth and claw (2008) by murder by death
lifa (live at castlefest) (2017) by heilung
runaljod ragnarok (2016) by wardruna
burning off impurities (2007) by grails
guy walks into a bar... (2019) by mini mansions
kind of blue (1959) by miles davis
blessings (2021) by anders christensen, laust sonne & jakob dinesen
danzig ii: lucifuge (1990) by danzig
you could have had it so much better (2025) by franz ferdinand
dat rosa mel apibus (2006) by white magic
i'd like to tag @crimsonphantasmagoria, @bog-bitch, @yana-marie, @bugbeds, @honeybeebutch, @terramandm and anyone else who sees this because I'm always looking for recommendations of things to listen to!
