Brightly was Charlie Gleason, a musician, programmer and computer science dropout. He threaded together folk, electronica, and surreptitious recordings of children screaming in airplanes with projects that explored the intersection of technology, music, and art.

Ten Years • Brightly

So, this is it. One For Sorrow, Two For Joy. For two years I dragged it around, from a snowstorm in Iceland to a sweaty summer in Melbourne. I cried and laughed and thrashed and paced with it, doubted it and fought for it. Mostly, I am proud of it, so I should probably just let it go and stop being so emo about everything.

Thanks to Nic and Josh, the very best musicians and mates. To Tom, who sang along and inspired me to keep writing stuff. To Ony, who took it from a something and made it a real thing. To Duffy and Pete, who really, properly listened. And as always, to Ian, for putting up with it all.

But most of all, to you. You made it, with your money and your high fives and your patience and your kind words.

London based Aussie Brightly aka Charlie Gleason is gearing up to release his stunning new LP, One For Sorrow, Two For Joy (out this coming Friday, June 17).

Recorded in an isolated cabin in the depths of an Icelandic winter and completed in London, One For Sorrow, Two For Joy is incredibly dynamic, both intimate and vast, equally icy and cosy. Featuring masterfully crafted indie rock tracks filled to the brim with rolling crescendos and skittering rhythms it’s truly a triumph from the talented (now) solo songwriter.
