It's been a while since I've posted about this AU, so I figured I post about it now! Since it's going to be a while until I finish an actual chapter of this AU. I'm probably going to make these kinds of post a series, where I write about the characters who are going to be present in this AU, what they do, and the roles they play.
I have a post like this in my drafts for Becky, but it's a bit long and I want to revise it since I feel like I didn't quite word it as well as I could. Anyways, the characters I will be talking about in this post are: TJ and Johnson.
TJ (a.k.a. "Vanishing Batter") and Johnson (Masked Hero) became a superhero duo in this AU. They became heroes roughly a year or two before the events of the story so they're already pretty well-established and known as heroes in Fair City by the time the story starts. I based TJ's hero identity, the Vanishing Batter, off of his baseball gimmick from his original hero identity (Home Run King) and his camouflage powers shown in the episode The Good, The Bad, and the Chucky. Johnson's gimmick as the Masked Hero is that he wears a mask that resembles the drama masks except without a mouth and the eyes are just circles. So, compared to TJ, Johnson doesn't really have a lot going for him other than his identity being hidden by his mask (although the Fair City citizens don't really recognize TJ as well because, you know, it's Fair City after all).
TJ is the more proactive one of the duo, he's quick to action but has the tendency to make decisions so fast he doesn't get to think about the consequences and outcomes of his choices. While he does well in fights that are more fast-paced, where decisions NEED to be made as quickly as possible, he can easily be tricked by villains who notice this trait of his and use it to mislead him and cause him to fail. Meanwhile, Johnson is somewhat of an opposite to TJ. He struggles to make decisions quickly and prefers to take the time to asses the situations he and TJ get into. An example of these traits being shown would be if TJ and Johnson were let's say in a fight with Captain Tangent, TJ would be quick to rush at Tangent and take away his main weapon (his hook) away from him so he'll stop throwing metallic stuff at them. Another example of mine that also highlights how Johnson plays into their hero dynamic is if the two of them got into a fight with Tobey--TJ knows Tobey and his priority would be to make sure he is away from his remote control. But Tobey also knows TJ, so I'd imagine he'd make a fake remote to trick TJ and capture him--Johnson would notice this beforehand and would warn TJ about it, whether TJ believes Johnson's warnings depends on the situation.
While I have drawn these two in their hero versions before, see this old post, I will probably be redesigning them. For now, I want to talk about the main parts/components of their costumes i.e. the most important details I want to keep in mind when redesigning their hero attires. Overall, TJ's attire resembles a baseball player's attire alongside something (maybe an eye cover or a visor) to partially hide his face. He also has a bat and a baseball. The main components of Johnson's costume would be a cape and of course, a mask resembling a drama mask w/o the mouth and with circular holes for eyes (as I mentioned earlier). I'll be drawing these sometime soon.
Outside of their hero lives, I'd imagine they would not have changed and remain pretty much the same as they were on the show. They still run the International WordGirl Fan Club, but them being fans of WordGirl would be more toned down as they get more invested in their own heroic pursuits. Plus, Rex also becomes an honorary member of their group both in their personal lives (they'd hang out occasionally) and as heroes (Rex, especially during their early days as heroes, helped them out A LOT). Kid Math was also definitely requested by WordGirl to look after TJ and Johnson, not necessarily interfere with their battles, but just make sure they came out alright.
TJ and Johnson's hero names were changed (not really for any important or significant reason, I just wanted to change them)
A running gag with TJ in this AU is that both civilians and villains alike keep bringing up that one time he was the Home Run King, which he usually just laughs at.
Becky KNOWS about their identities, but they don't know that Becky knows and that she's also WordGirl.
Captain Huggyface/Bob gives them advice frequently, but they never figure out that CHF and Bob are the same.
They visit Chuck's sandwich shop a lot, and it's their main hang out spot outside of the International WordGirl Fan club tree house. They also talk to Chuck a lot, since he's stopped being a villain.
