Happy World Cephalopod Day! 🐙
This sucker for adventure feels its way through the world!
With thousands of chemical receptors and millions of texture receptors packed into each sucker, the giant Pacific octopus has a real sense for exploration. Our aquarium biologist, René, shares a unique bond with the amazing animals in his care. Delve into one of our most-viewed YouTube videos to learn how René engages with our giant Pacific octopus using target training and other unconventional enrichments like a sea-cret morning salsa music routine! 💃🏻

DITL of a veterinarian at the Aquarium
Let’s take a journey behind the scenes into a day in the life of Dr. Ri Chang (they/them), one of our two fintastic Aquarium veterinarians. From checking a turtle’s shell to looking down a shark’s throat—and beyond—they do it all! Dr. Chang's passion for their work shines through as they navigate care for diverse species, marine research, and education. 💙 🩺🦈
You’ve heard of the porcupine, but what about the thin-spined porcupine (Chaetomys subspinosus)? This nocturnal critter, also known as the bristle-spined rat, is found only in parts of northern and central Brazil. Unlike many porcupines, this rodent's quills are more like bristles than spines. On average, this species weighs around 3 lbs (1.4 kg). It’s herbivorous and dines on leaves, fruit, and nuts! Photo: ultimosrefugios, CC BY-NC 4.0 DEED, iNaturalist

A young girl asks her father, “Daddy what does the word ‘corruption’ mean?”
“Bring me a beer and I’ll tell you.” “But mummy says you shouldn’t drink!” “Get yourself a nice ice cream as well while you bring me beer.” “Oh, okay!”
