it’s not about phan. it was never about phan and that little nod was lovely, but not the focus. this video was brave and kind and funny because it takes courage to stand up in front of literal millions of people and say ‘this is who i am, accept it or fuck off’. it’s not even like we were taken by surprise, but every time someone says those words out loud they inspire so many more people to do the same. the world is a scary place, especially now. but it’s a little nicer when we all say who we are with love and honesty and give it back to the world. being able to say you’re gay, laugh about it, speak openly about the struggles, is the greatest act of defiance against bigotry out there, and i’m so happy for dan that he was in a place to do it. here’s to many happy years being himself.

the video had so many important heavy hitting points mixed in with humour and a light-heartedness that can be incredibly difficult to feel when discussing these topics. im blown away

dan came out to 6 million subscribers with grace and humour and more importantly was authentic to himself.

So I know Dan mentioned it briefly in the video but if any of you have the genuine audacity to comment “we been knew” or anything like that, FUCK you. He spent forty-five whole fucking minutes in that video explaining harassment he faced, the self hatred he suffered through and the emotional turmoil that affects him to this say because of his sexuality and if you have nothing more to say than “I knew it!” then you’re completely insensitive
