DEFYING GRAVITY.

Kurt Hummel As you could have guessed, the name is Kurt Hummel. I'm currently 17 years old and (unwillingly) living in Lima, Ohio. Junior at WMHS, which means I'll be out of there soon enough. Sounds like you’re about as done with this year as I am.  Looking forward to the break from the jocks?  Coming back and starting new?  I think I’m just ready for this year to be done.  And when I come back I’ll be a senior.  That alone is extremely satisfying.

I’ve been done with this year since September, Sebastian. But yes, coming back as a senior will totally be great. It won’t make much of a difference, but we’ll finally be aloud to think out loud about getting out of here. I don’t have that many plans for this summer yet, though. Probably work with my dad a little so I can work out some refurnishing ideas for my room. How about you?

It sucks you’ve been knocked down for the count like that Kurt, but it’s good you’re feeling feeling better then. I don’t think you’ve missed all that much, finals are just around the corner though so if anything I think as long as you cram in some studying you’ll be okay.

That was the good part of that week, though: Getting ahead of my studying schedule. I’m going to rock those finals. Or so I hope. How about you? Having a good eye on it?

See! And the wonderful Miss Pillsbury decided I needed to go in and see her to ‘talk’ when I was away for a week because I was all flu filled and shit. No matter which way, you can’t win. Sorry you’re sick though, dude.

Hmm... Maybe you should test out my theory sometime. Talk about mister Schuester for as long as you can and see if you can get out. I’d test it myself, but I haven’t needed a ‘talk’ yet. Hey, I’m better now, so that’s okay.

I’m pretty certain that’s just common logic, but unfortunately a lot of people at McKinley don’t follow that. They come to school sick, and then blow off other days claiming to be sick when they’re perfectly fine. If you haven’t gotten caught up already, I’d be happy to lend you my notes, Kurt.

That pretty much sums it up. I mean, it’s not like I don’t get it. Some people just can’t afford it to miss those last couple of weeks because of the amount of info given out. But it still sucks. I got caught up for the biggest part, luckily. But I’m still missing a chapter from English, I think. So that would be very nice actually. Thank you!

I can’t give you any updates on assignments, but if you wanna know any gossip, you’re kinda dating the best person in the school for that. I could also be totally awesome at playing nurse.

Ah it’s just the end of the year… aka when the teachers realize how little they’ve taught and try to cram it all in hodgepodge style. Glad you’re feeling better.

You’d think they’d learn after a couple of years... The good thing is that I (and hopefully many others) did learn, and used this week to prepare myself. Now just to hope they don’t cut those chapters. So am I. Though I wouldn’t have minded a few more days at home.

There should be some kind of rule that states that everyone who is sick should just stay home to prevent others from getting sick. With the minimum on hygiene some people know, I’m surprised there hasn’t been a new epidemic yet. Long live the flu! (Please note the sarcasm) Anyway, I’ll be back on Monday and if anyone has any updates on assignments or things like that, it would be very welcome.

Admittedly I can get behind some of the 50s fashions, and maybe, maybe the music.  But the mentality?  Getting married so young and having 2.5 children, with a wife at home and the husband works himself into an early grave… yeah that’s not my style.  My mother stayed home but that was because financially it didn’t matter if she worked or not.  I don’t really know a lot of families.  It seems Sugar is on her own almost as much as I am.  I can’t really picture Dani sitting down with her family a whole lot either.  I don’t really cook, but we have a lady that comes in a couple of times a week and tidies and takes care of things like the dry-cleaning.  And she’ll make a couple of meals and toss them in the freezer for father or I to reheat as needed or wanted.  One night a week, thanks to her, I get a home cooked meal that I don’t even have to reheat.

To some marrying young and having 2.5 kids might just be the dream. Maybe not the working yourself to the grave part, but knowing you found someone who loves you and having a family... How could that be bad? Family totally is important, though. Maybe you could surprise your dad with a meal sometime, wait to eat with him and just talk about nothing important.

Your loss.  Oh, you are, are you?  Right, because it seems like living in a time when being gay was all about keeping secrets seems like right up my alley; all the class and fun a guy like me can stand really.  Do families really eat together?  It seems like such a foreign concept to me.  I guess, but even when maman and Marie-Pier were still here, it was often just us eating with out Father.  And when MP was really young, just maman and I, or she’s make me eat with MP early and then she and Father would eat together later.

I’ll live. And yeah... Why wouldn’t I? Okay, I might have looked over the whole ‘gay being a problem’ part of it all. But just imagine the style, the music and the mentality of the 50′s, without those kinds of things. Things would be so much more beautiful. All the families I know eat together, at least. Eating alone is kinda... lonely. Unless you’re right in the middle of a good episode or a good movie. Please tell me you at least take the time to cook for yourself.

I think the real question here is do you want me to corrupt you, Hummel?  I wouldn’t go so far to say you were right in what you were thinking exactly, but I will admit that it was not a hotel bed.  Thank you but I had enough of the 50s or whatever during our time spent on Grease; I’ll stay in the present now.  My father and I rarely share a meal together unless we’re out at a restaurant so excuse me for finding it foreign that families still do that kind of thing, even if it’s only one night a week.

Nah, I think I’m perfectly fine with the way things are now. And you’ll learn soon that I’m right a lot of times. Oh come on, you can’t tell me you wouldn’t enjoy the 50s. Everything was just so much classier and more fun back then. One night I a week still is a very low number if you compare it with most other families. Doesn’t it get lonely, though? I mean, dinner is always much more fun with company.

Totally get good weird, don’t worry! I like being that way.. Better than being normal, I think. I can’t imagine myself as a good girl show pony like my parents wanted. Just… Not me. There ain’t nothing from with that. I mean, I wouldn’t shoot alcohol in the foot when you get older and shit, because it’s fun and having a drink or two doesn’t hurt anyone.

Brett’s…Kinda screwed, yeah. We used to be buddies but even when I’m stoned, I don’t get him. Maybe it’s just because he’s uninteresting

Definitely cooler than just being normal. And definitely better than some good girl show pony. There are enough of those at school already, and it gets pretty tiring after a while. Okay, maybe I shouldn’t say never, but they have often proved themselves as the source of bad decisions and I’m very good without those. 

You actually used to be friends with him? Wow. But yes... being weird and not having anything really worth saying is one thing, but does he really have to combine that with being so... homeless-like? He does have a home, right?

Oh, no, it was definitely worth it. And I think my mom was mostly just pretending to be mad because that’s what a parent is supposed to do, because she started asking me all kinds of questions about it afterwards. And they were not the interrogation - she seemed genuinely interested. But anyways - I’m glad to hear you had a good time. 

It is! Oh God, yes, I can totally imagine. It’s going to be so amazing to finally be able to go everywhere by myself, whenever I want. Thanks, Kurt - I’ll make sure to keep that in mind. Does your dad also sell parts? ‘Cause I need a… well, something. I can’t remember what it’s called. Do you still help him out sometimes?

Your mom sounds pretty cool. I sometimes forget that our parents used to be young too, and may have even given secret birthday parties themselves. Maybe that’s why she was so curious. 

Even the ride to school gets cooler, trust me. I didn’t know you were working on a car with your dad, though. It sounds like quite a job. We don’t really sell parts, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be a problem to order in some extra stuff if you want to, though. Just send me a text when you know what it is, and I’ll ask my dad. I do help him out sometimes when things get really busy, but I mainly do the basics. I’m not exactly a mechanic.

Hey… I’m very discrete.  And I’ll have you know I could very well have been talking about some fabulous five star hotel bed for all you know.  It’s not my fault your mind automatically went other places.  Although I take a small amount of pride in the fact that it did; maybe you are corrupItible.   Sing-a-longs?  Friday night dinner nights; are you sure you haven’t stepped straight out of some 1950s time portal?  I’ll try but I make no promises.

You are going to need a lot more to corrupt me, Smythe. It’s not because I still have a white sheet in front of me that I believe everyone else has. But something still tells me I was right, though. Hey, the 50s were pretty cool, so why not take the best parts and still celebrate them. Our Friday night dinners probably aren’t as fancy as you think they are, though. Just an old habit, I have always known it that way... Good, and if you do, at least treat yourself with the best parts of crashing too.

Your stories do always sound pretty weird, indeed. But not in a bad way, just to be clear. And thank you, but I don’t think that’ll ever happen, though. Alcohol and drugs don’t really sound like my thing, so yeah... that’s probably never going to happen. I’d never go to Brett though. At least you’re still living on planet earth. He’s just a lost cause.

I’m alive

I really am, I swear. I just didn’t have a phone these past few days - blame my parents. I had a bit of a Cady Heron moment, but instead of finding tribal vases under the sink, my dad found a boot in the pool and several beer bottles between the flowers. Oops. 

On the bright side: I’m not going to have to wait on the car I was forced to fix am fixing, but I’ll be getting one next week instead. Otherwise it would take forever, as that thing is too far gone to actually make it a fully functioning car again, if you ask me. I tried singing Greased Lightening to it, but all that got me was a Sue Sylvester-esque look from my dad.

Oh God... That really sucks. That’s really not the aftermath your party should have had, but I hope this doesn’t change your mind about it being worth it, because I thought it was great. 

Ooooh, your own car. That’s always an exciting moment. That thing is going to become your baby for the first couple of weeks, mark my words. And hey, if you ever need some help with that other car, you know where to find me. I happen to know some things about them, which is part of how I earned mine.
