so my parents really like this show northern exposure and my dad just told me one of the actors, a native american, was detained by ICE officers who said her tribal id was a “fake”. elaine miles (that’s her name) pointed to the enrolment office phone number on the back of the id card and told the officers to call it and verify that her id was in fact real, but they refused, so she tried to call them herself and one officer tried to take her phone off her. eventually they left her alone (presumably bc they realised they had no leg to stand on) but she says a similar thing happened to her son and uncle and the officers refused to identify themselves so she can’t report them. now i’m no expert on this kind of thing but i can’t help but wonder where they were planning to deport a native american. what the actual fuck
