"UNO!"
Everyone burst out into loud groans of disappointment. This was the third round in a row that you were going to win. As you held your card up with a malicious smirk, your eyes met with your friend sitting right across from you. Jake Seresin. He narrowed his bold green eyes at you, a small smile gradually growing across his face.
When his turn came around, he put down a color card. "Green and Uno."
The next player put down a skip card, which meant it was your turn again. You scoffed and rolled your eyes. Everyone cheered as you leaned forward and picked up another card. The others took their turn and once it was on Jake again, he offered you a little wink.
"This one is for you [Y/N]," Jake teased, putting down his final green Uno card. Everyone started clapping. You couldn't help but smile at everyone's reaction. "You're welcome, sweetheart."
Everyone started saying good game to each other. In the midst of chatting with everyone, you were tapped on the shoulder by your older brother, Bradley. He asked if you could talk to him. You excused yourself and went into a separate room with him. Bradley closed the door and turned around to face you.
"So...You know how we were supposed to go on a double date tonight?" Bradley asked, slowly walking up to you. You raised an eyebrow. "Well, Charlotte can make it with me but...Damon just texted me and informed me that he won't be able to make it."
"What?!" You exclaimed. You shook your head, clearly upset. "I was really lookin' forward to going with Damon."
"The worst part is that I already have the movie tickets paid for and dinner paid for," Bradley claimed, running his hands through his silky brown hair. "Table for four and also the last four seats in the movie theater for that movie. It was an actual miracle I got those seats."
"Wow," You exhaled. "It seems that I need someone to go with me in about..."
"Five minutes."
"Five minutes?!" You gasped. "Who in the world-"
"Jake Seresin," Bradley interrupted, taking you by surprise. You cleared your throat and glared at him with the "Come again?" facial expression. "Look, hear me out, everyone here already has plans for the rest of the night. I'm pretty sure Jake doesn't. We're desperate. Please."
"You're desperate," You corrected, receiving an eye roll from Bradley. "I'm not goin' out with that brown-nosing, flirtatious little-"
"I'll tell Pete about what really happened at the party that one night," Bradley interjected, making you immediately reconsider. "You wouldn't want Pete to know that now would you?"
"It's always with the blackmail," You sighed. "Whatever. I'll go with Jake."
Bradley cheered and pulled you in to lay a big kiss on the top of your head. You grunted uncomfortably and pushed him off you, but that only won you a headlock from him. Growing up, you and Bradley got into more physical fights rather than verbal fights, but that's just how you two showed your love for each other.
It also helped you two bond and become stronger together.

"I heard the best friend dies at the end of this movie," Jake whispered. You inhaled deeply, trying not to lash out at him. "I'm just sayin' if the best friend dies...I called it."
Dinner was good. Well, the food was. You and Jake had completely different personalities and it was difficult to try to find common ground. It has been that way with him the entire time you've known him. It was hard, but you've dealt with worse people than him. Jake at least treats you kindly. Well, when he's in the mood to.
"The movie should start soon, so we should find out-"
You paused as you noticed a familiar face enter the movie theater. You audibly gasped and Jake snapped his head around to see who you were looking at. He just saw a man and a woman hand in hand with each other. You grumbled some unkind words as you shrunk down in your chair. Jake turned his attention back to you.
"What? Bitter about how you're not in a relationship?"
"Oh shut up," You groaned, throwing your hands over your face. You were on the edge of leaving. You dragged your hands down your face and glared coldly at Jake. "The man you just saw holding that woman's hand was the man who's supposed to be in your seat."
Jake noticed the hurt within your eyes, causing his heart to soften. "Oh, that troll was Damon? Sheesh. Ten bucks she rejects his kiss at the end of the night."
"Thanks Jake..." You softly spoke, lowering your eyes. "I just don't understand why he would say that he couldn't make it when clearly, he could have."
"His loss," Jake stated with a small shrug. "He doesn't have very good taste in women."
"What are you talking about? His date is gorgeous."
"She's not you [Y/N]," Jake declared, making your heart skip a beat. Was he being serious? "And you're beautiful inside and out."
You couldn't believe it. Jake not only complimented you, but he called you beautiful. You were a little confused, but you were secretly into it.
"Also, I was joking about the best friend dying thing earlier," Jake apologized. "I just wanted to see your reaction. I like teasing you."
"Yeah, I know you do," You chuckled. "But tonight, I'm going to allow it."
"Can I ask if you can allow one more thing?" Jake asked softly. "Would you allow me to kiss you at the end of the movie?"
You immediately felt your face increase in heat. Did Jake literally ask if he could kiss you? Your eyes caught Damon who was already making out with his date in his seat. You smirked and returned your attention to Jake.
"Why wait?"
Jake bit down on his lip, his beautiful green eyes fixated on your lips. You closed your eyes as you watched Jake lean in. The moment your lips collided, the lights turned all the way off and the movie started. You thought it was going to be a simple kiss, but Jake continued to kiss you, so you followed his lead.
In the end, you both smiled at each other. He wasn't that bad of a kisser.

"I still don't feel like this is a good idea," Bradley declared, receiving an eye roll from you in response. "Hey! Don't roll your eyes at me missy. You don't think it's weird that your new tutor is your ex-boyfriend?"
"Nothing is going to happen, Bradley," You reassured, crossing your arms. "Nick and I used to be together. As in, we are not together anymore."
"Yeah, I know that," Bradley replied, piercing his deep brown eyes into yours. "But what if he wants what you had...Back?"
"Well, he can't have me back because I'm already with someone else," You reminded, offering Bradley a small smile. "Someone tall and sexy. Someone with the name Bradley Bradshaw."
Bradley blushed at your compliments. You gave him a soft kiss on the cheek, increasing his blushing. Overprotective would be an understatement when it came to Bradley Bradshaw. He was clingy. He was constantly worrying about where you were. He wanted you safe and was willing to do what it took to keep you safe. You found it cute at times, at other times, you wished that he wouldn't worry so much.
You two were really good at communicating. It was one of the big reasons why your relationship continued for so long. In public, Bradley would always be the first one to get jealous if a man flirted with you. You didn't know why Bradley would get so fed up because he knew that you loved him. Nobody else.
Over time, Bradley was able to control it. He knew that you were loyal and he loved you because of your loyalty.
"Do you think-"
Bradley's words were interrupted by three knocks at the front door. It was clear in Bradly's facial expression that he didn't want you to answer it, but you knew that you had to. As you made your way out of the kitchen, Bradley was right behind you. You opened the door and revealed your ex-boyfriend, Nick.
"[Y/N]!" Nick exclaimed, flashing his pearly whites at you. Bradley scoffed at his appearance. "It's so good to see you again!"
Bradley cringed as Nick leaned in and gave you a hug. One that lasted a lot longer than Bradley wanted it to. You invited Nick inside and sparked up a conversation with Nick. Bradley was taken aback by the fact that you seemed to be excited to catch up with him. He was not expecting that.
Subtly, Bradley followed you and Nick into the kitchen. You two sat at the kitchen table and started the tutoring session. Bradley pretended to be doing things in the kitchen as he eavesdropped on your conversation. Bradley would wince every time Nick would laugh. He was annoyed hardcore with Nick and it hadn't even been five minutes.
"Wait, before we start, may I use the restroom?" You asked. Nick nodded. "Awesome. I'll be right back."
You scooted out from underneath the table and made your way to the restroom. Bradley leaned against the countertop and glared at Nick coldly.
"I can tell you're the new boyfriend," Nick commented, turning to look at Bradley. "You've got quite the look. But nothing compares to the way that [Y/N] used to look at me. It's clear she wants me back. Good thing I want her back too."
"I knew you were a dick," Bradley coldly stated. "No wonder you two aren't together anymore."
"It just wasn't our time big guy," Nick corrected, giving Bradley a smug look. "But I want [Y/N] back now so...I decided to sign up to be her tutor on purpose."
Bradley inhaled deeply while clenching his jaw. "You son of a-"
"[Y/N]!" Nick shouted, noticing your entrance. Bradley shut his mouth, but his warm brown eyes still stared cruelly at Nick. "I actually figured out something while you were gone."
You sat down beside him and Nick continued to work with you. Bradley grated his teeth together at the sight of you working closely with Nick. Bradley wanted to lunge at Nick and beat him up right then and there, but that's something that he would have done in this past. He wasn't like that anymore.
Bradley took a deep breath and left the room. As Bradley shut the door to the room he walked into, Nick scooted closer to you. You perked up as you caught Nick sliding his arm to stretch across the back of your chair. He was pulling a move.
"The hell do you think you're doing?" You asked, snapping your eyes at him. Nick cleared his throat and slowly removed his arm from behind you. "You really haven't changed, have you?"
"Oh come on [Y/N]," Nick scoffed, causing your patience to continue to diminish for him. "You really want to be with that giant idiot?"
"He's not the giant idiot. I'm sitting beside the giant idiot," You retorted, scooting out from underneath the table. "Get out of my house."
"You know you want me back [Y/N], admit it."
"There's only one thing I'll ever admit to you," You claimed standing up and peering down at Nick crudely. "I'm in love with Bradley Bradshaw. I love him more than anyone and anything. Nothing will ever change that. Not even little shitheads like you. Now, get out of my damn house."
Nick threw his hands up as if he was defeated. He stood up and left the house. You exhaled a deep breath and couldn't believe that Nick just hit on you like that. You walked back into the kitchen and sat back down. You needed some time to cool down. In the midst of your cooling down session, you heard a door open and close.
"[Y/N]?" You heard Bradley's voice softly speak. You remained in your seat and he walked up to you. "Where did Nick go?"
Bradley lowered himself in the chair beside you and leaned in real close to you. You slowly looked over at Bradley who had his eyebrows furrowed and his good ol' worried facial expression.
"Some people never change," You said with a shrug. "Nick is still the same loser I broke up with a couple years ago."
"I saw that the moment I saw his stupid face."
"I'm glad you did," You chuckled. You leaned in a kissed Bradley on the lips. As you pulled away, you smiled widely at him. "Thank you for all you do for me Bradley. I love you."
"My love for you is never-ending [Y/N]," Bradley expressed with a cheeky smile. "I love you forever."

"It seems that we have the same number," Jake pointed out. "Which means we're going to be in the same car."
"Yeah, no shit Sherlock," You rudely snapped. Jake raised his eyebrows in response to your attitude. "I'm telling Pete to give me another number."
You pushed past Jake and walked up to Pete who was chatting with Natasha. You tapped Pete on the shoulder and he looked at you.
"Pete, I need a new number."
"Sorry kid, I gave them all out," Pete apologized. "I would say you could trade, but the teams are already made."
You were going to ask him another question, but Pete continued to announce that the activity was going to start. You stepped to the side as Pete explained the instructions.
"Alright. I'm sure why everyone is wondering why I'm throwing this activity," Pete called out. Everyone murmured in agreement. "Well, I gathered everyone here because we're all going to go...Camping!"
Everyone broke out into their own little conversations. Some people were unhappy with camping, others were delighted! You were siding with the unhappy people, especially because you didn't want to be stuck out in the woods with Jake.
"Everything is already set up at the camp. It's not going to be a normal camping experience though," Pete declared, capturing the attention of everyone. "We're competing in teams. The number that you received not only assigns your ride, but your team too!"
The moment he said those words, you felt your stomach turn. You didn't know what you did wrong, but you were not having it with where this day was going. It was already ruined by seeing Jake and now it was getting even worse.
"The winners of this competition camp will be rewarded with a free dinner at the fanciest restaurant in town."
Everyone in the room had their jaw drop to the ground. Everyone already knew the restaurant that he spoke of. It was the place that you dreamed of. You knew it would never become a reality, but now that you had a chance, you were willing to take it. Even if it meant trying to get along with Jake.
"If anyone wants to drop out, raise your hand," Pete requested. Nobody raised their hand. Pete chortled. "That's what I thought. Now, let's get this week started!"
"A week?!" You blurted. "Maverick, you can't be-"
"Like I said, everything is already set up. Clothes. Housing. Food. Everything," Pete interrupted, knowing that you were going to say something. "Don't worry [Y/N]. You'll be taken care of."
Pete patted you on the shoulder before leaving. You inhaled deeply and fluttered your eyes shut. You envisioned yourself in the restaurant and the glorious decoration surrounding you. You opened your eyes and nodded. You were re-focused. You left the building and saw everyone gathering around their cars.
It seemed that the cars were specifically decorated with the number of teams. You looked around and finally spotted car number seven. As you walked up to the car, you noticed you were the group's only girl.
"Only girl again, ain't you [Y/N]?" Jake teased as you arrived at the scene. You scoffed in response. Jake furrowed his eyebrows. "Did you just scoff at me?"
"Wait, you know this chick?"
You looked over and up as you saw a tall man with an interesting-looking mustache leaning up against the car beside Jake.
"The name is [Y/N]," You introduced. "Bro."
"Sarcastic," The man exhaled, nodding his head. "I'm sure you and Hangman got along real well."
You lowered your eyes as the memories of you and Jake flashed through your mind. All the laughs. All the times he held you close. All the tears. You were pulled back into reality as the tall man introduced himself.
"The name is Bradley Bradshaw," Bradley introduced. "Rooster is my call sign."
"Rooster. As in like...A male chicken?"
"He looks like one doesn't he?" Jake asked, receiving an eye roll from Bradley. "Now that we've established the obvious, let's get on the road. We have a competition to win."
"I'm driving," Bradley stated, jingling the keys in his hand. "Bob. You're riding up front with me."
"Got it."
You jumped in surprise at the sudden voice that sounded off from behind you. A blonde man with glasses quickly apologized and awkwardly pushed past you to the front door. You were guessing that was Bob. He came out of nowhere.
"Hangman and [Y/N]. You both are riding in the back," Bradley assigned. "Don't worry. It'll only be a three hour ride."
"Three hours?!" You exclaimed. You caught a glimpse of Jake who was softly smiling. "Please tell me it's three seats in the back so I have some room."
Bradley grinned and opened the backseat door for you. You peered inside and saw your whole world crumble. It was two seats. Bradley could tell that you weren't very happy, which was amusing to him. He patted you on the back before heading to the driver's seat.
You gritted your teeth as you climbed into the car, not even acknowledging Jake who was clearly staring at you. You crossed your arms and stared out the window as you heard the other door open. You kept your focus out the window as you felt Jake climb inside. He wasn't afraid and got real close to you.
You snapped your gaze at him and scowled. "Not so close dickhead."
"I can't move any further or any closer [Y/N]," Jake spoke sharply, readjusting his position. You cringed as his skin continued to rub on yours. "You're going to have to live with it for the next three hours princess."
You huffed in irritation as he said that last word. You used to love it when he called you princess, but now you despise it, just like you despised Jake. Jake, on the other hand, knew that you loved being called princess, especially his princess. He was aware that you weren't very fond of him at the time, but he was willing to do what it took to make up for the lost time.
The night he left was the biggest mistake that he had ever made in his entire life, and he wanted to show you that it really was.
"I guess since we're going to be stuck back here together, might as well catch up with each other, right?" Jake asked as Bradley started up the car. You released a long sigh and turned away from him to continue to look out the window. "Come on [Y/N]..."
You didn't give in and kept looking at the beautiful nature that was right before your eyes. Jake asked you another question, but you continued to give him the silent treatment and tune him out.
Bradley chuckled as he put the car into drive. "This is going to be a fun three-hour drive."

You climbed out of your jet and exhaled a breath of despair. You had just finished a training session and it didn't go too great. Your mind flooded with negative thoughts as you made your way back into the building. On the way inside, the other pilots tried to talk to you, but you weren't in the mood to talk. You were your own worst enemy and right now, you were truly hating yourself pretty badly.
The worst part was when you entered the building. Pete was working on one of the airplanes and Pete noticed your entrance.
"[Y/N]-"
"Not now Mav," You interrupted, shaking your head. "I know what I did and I know that I should have done better."
"Now we both know that's not true [Y/N]."
You scoffed and turned around. Pete shouted your call sign, but you ignored him and stormed out. Pete sighed and put down his tools. He had always loved you like you were his own daughter. He pushed you to become the best that you could be. He wanted you to be happy. It was hard for him to see you sad.
You had made your way to The Hard Deck. It was during hours that nobody was there. You were down in the dumps and felt like being alone.
You'll never be a good pilot.
You might as well give up.
You can't fly, so why even try?
You squeezed your eyes shut, mentally screaming at yourself to stop letting those intrusive thoughts get to you.
"[Y/N]?" A voice echoed through your mind. Your eyes shot wide open. You knew exactly who it was. You clenched her jaw and turned around. It was Pete. "Look, I am aware that you want to be alone right now, but I can't stand watching you be sad."
"Thanks Maverick," You softly thanked. Pete walked up to you and sat down beside you. "I'm sorry for blowing you off earlier. It's just..."
Pete watched you as your bottom lip started to quiver. His heart ached for you. He hated seeing you like this. Pete put his arm around you and encouraged you to let it out. You did as ordered and poured out your heart and soul. You expressed her feelings. All of the insecurities, doubts, and confusion.
As Pete listened, he listened with love. You started crying and Pete comforted you. This was the first time that Pete saw you open up like this, and he felt nothing but gratitude. You trusted him and he respected that. Pete had always been someone that you had looked up to ever since you met him. He immediately had your respect because of who he was and how he acted. He showed you love and you showed him love back. It was much like a father-daughter relationship.
"[Y/N], I want you to know something," Pete stated. You looked over at him and he was teary-eyed. "I love you like you're my own daughter, and because I do, I want you to know, I care about you. I am here for you. I know you're an amazing pilot. You are the best of the best."
"Thanks, Pete," You thanked, calling him out by his first name. Pete smirked. "It means a lot coming from you. I look up to you like a mentor and a friend."
Pete smiled. "You'll always be my friend [Y/N]. Don't ever forget that."
You chuckled as Pete gave you a side hug. You wiped your eyes and thanked Pete once more. You felt much better. You were happy that you had such a great mentor and a great friend. Pete definitely helped you out of hard times and you did the same for him. It was a great duo for sure.

As a top gun recruit, you were put with the best of the best. Alongside such a great crowd, you caught the eye of the tallest man in the group. Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw. It started out as a teammate and slowly developed into a friendship throughout your time serving with him.
The longer you hung around each other, the more comfortable you got with each other. You would allow him to spend the night at your place and he would allow you to cuddle up against him during movie nights. You both clearly had feelings, but it was clear you both didn't want to express them verbally.
Tonight started off wonderful, but it soon went crashing down when you saw Bradley with another girl for half the night. Although there were people surrounding you and practically showering you with love, your eyes couldn't help but search for Bradley in the crowd.
Your first thought was that Bradley deserved better, but you came to soon realize that it wasn't that Bradley deserved better, it was that you wanted Bradley to want you, not her. Jealousy sucked.
"You seem down [Y/N]," Jake mentioned, sitting down beside you. "What do you say I get us a couple drinks and we talk about it?"
You took one last glance at Bradley who wasn't even looking your way. You sighed heavily and nodded. Jake smirked and tapped the wooden counter, shouting for a drink for you and him. As you sat there to ponder about your situation, all you could think about was Bradley.
As Jake offered you shots of your favorite alcoholic drink, minute by minute, you could feel the chemicals begin to overtake your body. Jake started asking questions and you started answering. You had no clue what you were saying and you had no idea what he was asking. In the long run, you both were giggling and laughing with each other in the end of it.
The whole crowd started cheering, catching the attention of you and Jake. You looked over your shoulder and saw everyone gathering around the piano in the midst of The Hard Deck. You slid off of your seat and sluggishly made your way to where everyone was at. You started leisurely making your way to the middle.
Your heart skipped a beat as you saw Bradley sitting on the piano bench, his sunglasses barely staying on his face. You could tell that he had a little too much alcohol too. As you turned around to leave, the people started pushing and shoving you. It was as if fate was leading you back to Bradley. You were turned back around and now standing right in front of Bradley.
"Hey handsome," You slurred, clenching his shoulder to prevent yourself from falling. "Mind doin' me a favor?"
Bradley shifted his eyes up to meet yours. You removed his sunglasses, tossed them to the side, and leaned in. Your lips clashed with his and everyone in the crowd shook the entire building with screams, laughter, and cheering. Bradley gave in and started moving his lips in sync with yours. As you removed your lips to get a little breather, Bradley breathed out a name that wasn't yours.
You paused and got a good look at Bradley who still had his eyes closed, expecting you lean back in.
"Oh my goodness," You muttered. "I just made out with Rooster."
Feeling embarrassed, you pulled away. You could hear the disappointment in the groans of the people in the crowd. It was clear they wanted you two to continue. You looked behind you and made direct eye contact with Bradley before disappearing into the crowd. The rest of the night, Bradley looked for you, but you were nowhere to be found.

"Well, it was clear that you all had a fun night last night," Pete announced, looking at all his pilots. Everyone was still suffering the consequences of partying too hard last night. "Some more than others."
Everyone snickered as Pete subtly gave you the side eye before moving on with the subject. You were still trying to process what happened last night, and so was Bradley. The awkward part was that he sat a couple rows behind you. You could feel his eyes burning in the back of your head the entire session. You had ignored him ever since the beginning of the day. You were still a tad bit embarrassed.
The class had ended and you had a plan to grab lunch by yourself. As you stood up, you heard your name get called by Bradley. Your heart started racing as you saw his figure start making his way up to you. You didn't turn around and speedily started shuffling your way out, but Bradley was fast and stepped in front of you quickly. You bumped into him and chuckled nervously.
"Sorry Rooster," You apologized, continuing to avoid eye contact with him. "Excuse me. I need to-"
"So...We're not going to talk about what happened last night [Y/N]?"
"Look, I'm sorry. I was intoxicated and I wasn't thinking straight," You briefly apologized. "I misread the situation and I hope it didn't ruin our friendship. Please don't be mad at me."
"[Y/N], I could never be mad at you," Bradley reassured. "Can you please look at me?" Bradley asked politely. You softly nodded and looked up to meet his eyes. "Let me take you out to lunch."
»»----- ♡ -----««
The restaurant was full of commotion as you entered it with Bradley. It was a seat-yourself kind of situation, so you and Bradley took the last booth in the room. As you sat down, you noticed that it wasn't just a casual place to eat lunch at. Bradley recommended some dishes as you were handed a menu.
After looking over the menu, a waiter arrived and put down your orders. The waiter placed a table marker before leaving. You were at table four. Bradley released a long sigh. You looked at him and raise an eyebrow.
"You're just irresistible, aren't you?" Bradley inquired. You glared at him as if you weren't understanding his question. Bradley adjusted his position and pierced his eyes into yours. "That waiter thinks you're cute."
You scoffed. "Where in the world did you get that silly thought?"
"The way he looked at you," Bradley casually responded. "He looked at you like I look at-" Bradley abruptly paused. "Well...You know. He gave you that look."
Bradley clearly stopped himself from expressing something, which was typical of him. The whole "Who's going to say it first?" Is the game you two constantly play with each other. The thing was, Bradley, did go further in this thought than he usually did. You were intrigued.
It was on your mind, but then you soon moved on as Bradley started asking you questions to give you the opportunity to open up to him. You two shared many laughs. Many memories and added to those memories during the process. The food came and it made the "Hangout" even more fun.
You two were sharing deep thoughts and fun stories with each other. It was clear for everyone in the restaurant to see that you two were having the time of your lives together. After you had finished your food, the waiter came and dropped off the receipt inside the receipt holder. Bradley thanked him and picked it up. He took out the receipt, revealing a small sticky note that was hidden underneath it.
Bradley scoffed at the sticky note, which caught your attention. You asked what it said. He removed it and handed it to you.
If you ever break up with your boyfriend, hit me up:)
The sight of the phone number after the cheesy note of the waiter made you laugh. You looked up and saw that Bradley wasn't laughing along.
"Oh, come on Bradley, you would always laugh when people would mistake us as boyfriend and girlfriend," You chuckled. You noticed that Bradley was clenching his jaw and avoiding eye contact. "Bradley, is everything alright?"
"TIME FOR THE LUCKY WINNERS FOR TONIGHT!!!" Someone screamed throughout the whole restaurant. You had no clue what was going on. You turned around and saw someone pick a number out of a hat. The man then shouted, "TABLE FOUR! TABLE NUMBER FOUR!!!"
You threw your hands over your face. You hated these kinds of things. You weren't going to say anything about how you both were sitting at table four, but the couple behind you loudly pointed it out. The workers walked up to your table and Bradley was turning extremely red.
"Okay! Here it is!" The worker shouted, handing you a ticket. It was a free meal at the restaurant for your next visit! "Congratulations to this lovely couple! What are you two, married?"
"Married?" You snorted, looking at Bradley with a small smile. "That's a new one."
Bradley exhaled angrily and slammed a fifty-dollar bill onto the table, taking you by surprise.
"Keep the change."
Bradley said those three words and stormed off afterward. You awkwardly sat there with the workers standing at the table. The worker cleared his throat. "Surprisingly, this isn't the first time this has happened."

For the next couple of days, Bradley was pretty distant. You had no clue what it was. You two used to talk all the time, but he wasn't responding to texts. He was avoiding you after class. It had to take some skill to catch Bradley after class, and by skill, it meant getting the other pilots involved.
As you planned and put it into action, you were able to succeed with getting you and Bradley alone in a room together. Although it was clear that Bradley wanted to leave, you prevented him from leaving until you understood what was going on.
"You've been acting weird ever since you took me out to lunch the other day," You reminded, making Bradley roll his eyes. "Look, Bradley. I'm sorry that I said anything about it. Please, tell me what's going on."
Bradley inhaled deeply and looked you right in the eyes. "[Y/N]. I don't want to be your friend anymore." An awkward silence filled the air, but he continued. "I want to be in a relationship with you [Y/N]."
"We already have a relationship-"
"No we don't," Bradley cut off, shaking his head. "We have a friendship. I want to take the next step. I want you to be my girlfriend. I want to be your boyfriend. I like you [Y/N. In fact, I love you."
"Bradley, what about that woman you were with all night that night we...Kissed?"
"She played with my heart that night [Y/N]," Bradley admitted. "She was the reason I drank so much that night."
"So...The name that you said-"
"Yes. It was her name, but that's only because she was on my mind," Bradley confessed. "But [Y/N], you were in my heart. You always have been."
In the midst of your thoughts, you didn't let anything hold you back and you walked up to Bradley. You grabbed his shirt and pulled him in and gave him a soft kiss that didn't last as long as Bradley wanted, but you were good at keeping him on his toes.
"It's about time Bradley," You snickered, pulling away from him. "I love you too."

"Well, guess who decided to show up?" Jake asked, his face clearly showing his displeasure. You chuckled nervously as you scooted the seat out from underneath the table. You sat down across from your brother. "Care to explain where you've been dear sister?"
"I was over at Courtney's," You lied, completely avoiding eye contact. You laid the napkin out on your lap. "It was fun."
"I'm sure it was," Jake agreed, nodding his head. He looked over at the home phone and then returned his attention back to you. "Speaking of Courtney. She called just a few minutes ago and asked if you were available to hang out on Friday."
"Oh, really? That's funny that she wants to hang out again so soon," You responded nervously, continuing to keep your gaze away from Jake's. "I guess we had such a great time together she wanted more!"
"Yeah, Courtney asked if you'd be available because she's not getting home from her vacation in Tokyo until Friday," Jake stated sternly. You paused and slowly raised your eyes up to meet your brother's unamused facial expression. "Lying to your big brother. Wow...Where were you really [Y/N]?"
"A friend's house," You quickly responded, not feeling as bad. You were practically telling the truth. Bradley was a friend. "Can you pass the salt and pepper please?"
Jake didn't move a muscle and kept his deep brown eyes fixated on you. The longer he stared at you, you started to recognize the look he gives you when he wants you to share a secret with him. Typically, it works, which in other words meant...You were doomed. You couldn't take it anymore as he narrowed his eyes at you.
"Actually, I lost my appetite," You swiftly exclaimed. You slipped the napkin off your lap and slammed it on the table. "I'll be in my room."
You briefly excused yourself and Jake and his face fell into a frown as he watched you walk away. Did you not trust him anymore? His heart fell to the bottom of his stomach. He felt as if he wasn't as close to you as he used to be. In reality, you didn't want to tell Jake where you were because if he knew, all hell would break loose.
You only believed that to happen because you were in a relationship with Bradley Bradshaw. Jake was unaware that you had a boyfriend, let alone, having Bradley as your boyfriend. It was different because Jake and Bradley knew each other and they knew each other quite well. You knew that Jake would lose his mind if he found out you were dating Bradley.
You shut the door to your room and climbed into your bed. As you curled up, you immediately noticed a missing piece of jewelry. You sat up and started feeling around the bed, thinking that it might have dropped when you got in bed. You had no success in finding it. Your phone suddenly buzzed and you took it out.
Bradley had texted you.
Hey sweetie. You forgot this at my place.
Bradley had attached a picture of him holding the bracelet that you were looking for. It was as if he knew you were looking for it right then and there. You were impressed.
You're a lifesaver. Thank you Bradley. I'll be right there.
Fortunately, Bradley didn't live too far from you. You knew that Jake was downstairs, so you couldn't leave out the front door. You looked out your window and you knew it was a crazy idea, but you've been through crazy things. So...Jumping out a window wasn't even that bad compared to other stunts you've pulled.
You shut the lights off, shoved some pillows under a pile of blankets and it made it look like there was a body underneath it. As you looked at your final masterpiece, you gave it a nod in confirmation and softly muttered, "Sorry big brother." Before opening your window and climbing out of it. Love makes you do some crazy things.

"It was a close call, Bradley," You sighed, sitting beside Bradley on his living room couch. "I almost broke and told Jake that we were together."
"I'm glad you didn't," Bradley expressed, putting his arm around you. You laid your head on his chest. "Jake doesn't need to know about us."
You closed your eyes as you shifted your position to lie your head down on his lap. Bradley took his fingers and ran them gently through your hair. Bradley started talking to you about his day. Your eyes fluttered shut as his soothing voice started to put you to sleep. In the midst of Bradley massaging your head, the rhythm of your heartbeat began to slow down. You were falling asleep and before you knew it, you had fallen asleep on Bradley's lap.
As Bradley realized you had fallen asleep, all he did was chuckle and lean back his head to join you. It wasn't long until he fell asleep too.
Bradley...
Bradley...
ROOSTER! OPEN THE DAMN DOOR!!!
You shot up from your sleep, instantly recognizing the screaming voice of your older brother. You had thought it was a dream, but the loud knocks were as clear as day. It was real life. It had awoken Bradley as well. You shrieked silently and rolled off of Bradley as Jake continued to bang his fist on the door.
"Oh shit!" You muttered, frantically climbing up to your feet. "I'm so dead if Jake finds me here!"
"Hide under the couch," Bradley advised. "As long as nobody sits on it, you should be fine under there."
You nodded, just going along with his advice because you needed to hide as soon as possible. As you shimmied your way underneath the couch, you saw the white-socked feet of your boyfriend make his way to the front door. The door opened and you saw the pair of your brothers shoes enter Bradley's home.
"What took you so long to answer?" Jake asked, leaving his shoes at the front door. "You're usually instant when I knock."
"I was in the kitchen," Bradley lied. Jake sighed and walked into the living room. Your eyes widened as you saw Jake walk toward the couch you were hiding underneath. "What do you need this late at night?"
"It's [Y/N]," Jake huffed, plopping himself onto the couch. Bradley's eyes widened, expecting to hear you react, but you kept your mouth shut. He was impressed. "I tried talking to her tonight, but she was actin' real weird. I feel like she doesn't trust me anymore. You know?"
"Yeah, I definitely know what you mean," Bradley responded, walking up to him. "I haven't seen [Y/N] in a while. How is she doing?"
"She's doing alright. She's definitely hiding something from me though. I know it," Jake indicated, adjusting his posture on the couch. The couch was sinking down a little bit from the weight of your older brother. You could feel it lightly on your back, but you were doing okay. "I just want to know what's going on."
"I'm not sure wh-"
"Wait, I need to show you something," Jake interrupted, reaching into his pocket. He pulled out his phone and patted the seat beside him. "Come. Sit. I found a video that I thought you'd find hilarious."
Your eyes widened. You knew if Bradley were to sit down, the couch would definitely sink down to the point where it would be crushing you.
"Actually, I'm not really in the mood to watch-"
"Oh shut up."
Jake reached out for Bradley's arm and dragged him down right down onto the couch beside him.
"OW!!!"
Bradley frantically got up off the couch and Jake raised his eyebrows. "What in the hell was that?!"
"I uh-" Bradley stumbled upon his words as he tried to think of an excuse. "I-It was my dog!"
"You don't have a damn dog, Bradley!"
Jake stood up and looked down as you climbed out from underneath the couch. Jake's jaw dropped to the floor as he saw that it was his little sister. You hastily climbed up to your feet. You came face to face with a bright red-faced brother. You released a small chuckle.
"I can explain," You softly whispered, trying to act as innocent as possible. Jake inhaled deeply, clenching his jaw. Your eyes widened, knowing what was coming next. You snapped your eyes at Bradley. "RUN!!!"
Bradley reached out for your hand and grabbed it. Bradley holding your hand seemed to have increased Jake's tantrum. You both burst out of the door and started running.
"Where are we going?!" You shouted, running hand in hand with Bradley. "I don't know where to go!"
"Far away from Jake!" Bradley shouted back, huffing and puffing from running so fast. "We'll give him some time to cool off!"
"Yup! Sounds like a plan to me!" You yelled, your heart racing. "Maybe we should have told him instead of trying to hide it!"
"We wouldn't be running hand in hand down some street if we did," Bradley pointed out, tightening his grip on your hand. "In other words, you make life fun [Y/N]! That's why I love you so much!"
You laughed and loudly announced, "I love you too Bradley!"

"There is no way in hell that I'm working with this asshole!" You shouted, denying it loudly. "He's going to kill me before the enemy even attacks!"
"Gladly," Bradley responded snottily. "You don't know even know how to fly worth a shit."
"How old are you both?" Pete asked sternly. You both fell quiet but continued to glare daggers at each other. "Exactly. Shut up. Put aside your differences and work together. This mission requires the skills you both obtain."
"That's funny that you think that [Y/N] has skills-"
"Rooster!" Pete interrupted impatiently. Bradley immediately shut his mouth. You smirked at him, teasing him for being called out by Pete. "Now, gear up and get in your jets!"
You both nodded and rolled your eyes at each other before departing to go get geared up. As you were gearing up, Natasha sparked a conversation with you. You two had a good discussion, but at the end of it, she mentioned the name of the man you despised.
"So is there a reason you and Rooster are constantly bickering like a married couple?" Natasha asked curiously. You fake gagged. Natasha chuckled. "You know, I think that Maverick put you two together because-"
"Say so more Phoenix," You interrupted, putting your hand up. "I don't need to be throwin' up before this mission."
"Oh come on," Natasha sighed, rolling her eyes. "It's obvious that Rooster has the hots for you."
"He had the hots for my sister growing up," You revealed, feeling disgusting inside. "But it's quite obvious that all he cares about is himself. I've hated him ever since he broke her heart."
"Well, that explains your side, but why does Rooster have it out for you too?"
"When I get revenge, I get revenge." You clearly stated, making Natasha smile. "Anyways, let's get situated. We have people to save. Well, unless it's Bradley."
Natasha smirked. "Sure [Y/N]. You keep tellin' yourself that."
»»----- ♡ -----««
"[Y/N]." You heard Bradley call out as you approached your jet, passing Bradley. You clearly heard him, but you ignored him and continued walking. Bradly huffed in annoyance. "[Y/N]!" Bradley shouted louder. You continued to ignore him. Bradley clenched his jaw in irritation. "[Y/N]! I'M TALKING TO YOU DAMN IT!!!"
His voice was so boisterous, it caught the attention of everyone who was there. You came to a halt and inhaled deeply before turning around to face him. Bradley approached you and told you specific instructions as he reached you. You just kept looking everywhere except him, showing him how much you 'cared'
"You know, it's really rude to not look at the person who is talking to you," Bradley angrily confronted. You dramatically looked back into his eyes and fluttered your eyes multiple times. He wasn't very amused by your sarcastic gesture. "I just want you safe [Y/N]. Don't do anything stupid out there."
Your eyebrows furrowed as he said those words to you. It was as if...He cared. Bradley stormed off before you could point out his out-of-the-blue kindness toward you. You shook those thoughts out of your head and re-focused your attention back on the mission. You had a mission to complete and you had a partner to complete it with.
»»----- ♡ -----««
The tensions were high. You and Bradley only had one more pilot jet to take care of. You were out of ammo but had one more shot for flares. You and Bradley were yelling at each other as you kept each other safe. You watched as Bradley successfully hit the pilot, but before you celebrated, you noticed that the pilot had launched a missile before going down.
The missile was going straight toward Bradley. You yelled at Bradley that he had a missile coming toward him.
"Shit! I don't have anymore flares!" Bradley shouted in panic. "Maybe I can-"
"I can't believe I'm doing this," You muttered to yourself, preparing yourself to take the missile for him. You pressed the buttons and started flying toward him. You put your thumb on the button, but unexpectedly, the missile hit you before you pressed the button. "Shit!"
Your head was spinning as your jet was going downward. It was already a bad situation, but having Bradley screaming in your headset was making it even worse. You needed to focus to get your jet back, but it wasn't long until you figured out that you couldn't. You cursed before you pulled the eject button.
»»----- ♡ -----««
Thankfully, you landed smoothly. Technically, the mission was a success. All the enemy pilots were gone and you survived as well as Bradley. As you were getting out of your parachute, you started getting it back into the bag. You perked up as you heard footsteps rapidly approaching you. You dropped what you were doing and turned around.
It was Bradley! He was running up to you...and he wasn't stopping. You were struck with confusion as he got closer. He was fuming.
"Roos-"
Before you could finish your words Bradley shoved you straight to the ground, the impact of his motion caused you to slide a little bit. You were grateful the suit kept you from getting the wind knocked out of you. You were sure it would've been if you weren't wearing all the gear that you were. As you were looking at the sky, it was immediately replaced with the face of an unhappy Bradley.
He towered over you and pointed down at you. "YOU ASSHOLE!!!"
"What?!" You shouted, climbing back up to your feet. You pointed your finger at Bradley. "I saved your LIFE dickhead!"
"YOU ALMOST DIED!"
"WHY DO YOU CARE?!" You screamed back, instantly realizing you really did bicker with Bradley like he was your husband. Bradley paused and seemed to have the look like he had been caught about something. "You may not care about my family, but I care about yours. I don't want your family to know that their son won't return home."
"Of course, I care about your damn family! That's why I left your sister!" Bradley shouted. You lifted an eyebrow in confusion. Bradley groaned in aggravation, running his hands through his hair in distress. "[Y/N] I LOVE YOU!!!"
As those four words echoed clearly through the blue sky, you couldn't remove your gaze from his. You've always wondered what it would be like if someone admitted they loved you, but you never pictured it to be in the middle of the woods and him screaming it at you angrily. You put your finger up to him, indicating that you had to process what he had just said.
Bradley didn't want to wait for another second and continued. "[Y/N]. The moment I met your sister, I fell in love. But the moment I met you, I truly fell in love. You were different. You made me feel things that I've never felt with any other woman in my life."
"Rooster, I don't-"
"I broke up with your sister because she knew that I had feelings for you," Bradley interrupted, throwing you into an even deeper pit of confusion. "I'm an honest man. I didn't want to hurt your sister and I knew keeping secrets from her was going to do that."
"What are you even talking about? You still hurt her! Her heart was broken!"
"Well of course it's going to be broken! Breaking up isn't easy [Y/N]! Mine was broken for months too," Bradley claimed. "But we're both on good terms now. She is still a great woman and she will find that man who will treat her better than I did."
You crossed your arms and removed your gaze from him. You didn't even know what to think about this situation, but you didn't feel against it. Bradley sighed and copied your position.
"This is not how I imagined confessing my love for you."
You raised your eyes back up at Bradley who was staring at the ground. "You really love me?"
Bradley slowly raised his eyes up to meet with you. He gave you a small smile. "Yes. I do. I love you [Y/N]."
"Damn it. Natasha was right," You muttered. "I owe her twenty dollars now."

The beach was somewhere that your father took you numerous times growing up. It was practically a tradition that you would go every weekend during summertime. Well, this time was different. He not only took you to the beach today, but he invited the pilots that he had been teaching.
You adored them all, except the arrogant blonde-haired tease, Jake Seresin. Also known as a Hangman. You were done with him the moment you met him. He was flirtatious, but his attitude immediately changed when he figured out that you were the daughter of Pete Mitchell.
Although you had absolutely no interest in Jake, he actually found that attractive. He was always the guy who wanted what he couldn't have. You were number one on that list.
"You're getting better [Y/N]," Your father complimented, lifting you up from the wet sandy ground. "I think next time you need to focus more on where you're going rather than how fast you're going."
You nodded as you brushed yourself off. You hated wet sand.
"Not the first time I saw you trip [Y/N]," The familiar voice rang through the air. You huffed in irritation. You were not in the mood to talk to Jake. "It looked hilarious from where I was standing."
"Go away Hangman," You growled, shooting daggers into his eyes as he walked up to you. "I'm not in the mood."
"Oh, when are you ever?" Jake scoffed, rolling his honey-brown eyes. "You're always grouchy."
"Only around you Hangman," Your father chimed in, picking up the football from the sand. "She doesn't like you."
"Wait, really?" Jake asked, poorly acting surprised. "At least you don't hate me."
"Hate would be an understatement," You claimed, rolling your eyes. "Now, can you leave? Dad and I were in the middle of something."
"I want to challenge you," Jake stated. "You and me. Whoever gets a touchdown first buys the other lunch."
"I'm not challenging you Hangman," You denied, shaking your head. "Having to see you every day is already a challenge itself."
"Come on sweetheart, show him what I've taught you!" Your father encouraged loudly. "You can take him easily."
Jake scoffed at Pete's comment but continued to look at you, awaiting your answer. You sighed in defeat.
"Fine. I'll accept your challenge."
Jake's mouth grew wider, his pearly whites appearing clearer and clearer. He turned around and pointed out where your touchdown line was and he pointed out where his way. After everything was established, he shouted at your father to kick the ball. Pete let go of the ball and kicked it straight in the air.
The ball came spiraling down and you and Jake were sprinting toward the area that it was going to land at. You took a leap and surprisingly caught the ball in your arms. You could hear the encouragement from your father as you started sprinting toward the touchdown line.
"Better start running faster [Y/N]!" Jake shouted, right at your tail. "It won't be long until I tackle you to the ground!"
Focus more on where you're going rather than how fast you're going.
The words of your father echoed through your mind as you were coming closer to the touchdown line. It was as if time started slowing down as you focused on where you were going. All of a sudden, you noticed a little ditch in the midst of your path. You took one last leap and jumped right over it.
As you continued to sprint, you heard Jake scream a curse word as he didn't notice the ditch and went tumbling down. A small chuckle fell from your lips. You looked ahead and there it was. The touchdown. You inhaled one last breath and gave it your all.
You cheered to yourself as you made the touchdown. You came to a stop and threw the ball to the ground. You threw your hands in the air in celebration. You turned around, only to be unexpectedly tackled right to the ground by Jake.
You both rolled through the wet sand. Once it came to an end, Jake ended up on top of you with sand all over his face. You chuckled at his appearance.
"I beat your ass," You mocked, sticking your tongue out at him. Jake smirked down at you. "You owe me lunch."
"You wouldn't have beat me if it wasn't for that damn ditch," Jake complained. His eyes were fixated on your lips. You could tell what he wanted to do next. "But before I take you out to lunch..."
Your hand started clumping up some sand as his eyes fluttered shut and he started leaning in. You immediately took a handful of wet sand and shoved it in his face. Jake shouted in disgust as it got into his mouth. You laughed as he rolled off you, spitting out the sand. You climbed up to your feet and brushed yourself off.
"There's a time and a place Hangman," You advised. "I look forward to lunch. I'm hungry."
You gave him a small smile before walking away, leaving Jake even more in love with you. He loved games, especially if you were playing with him. He was happy and so were you.
Summary: In which the man who made you love love, ends up making you hate love. You were convinced he was out of your life but an activity thrown by a mutual friend creates a situation that you never intended to happen. You were certain that you no longer loved Jake, but he can't say the same thing about you.

Love Let Her Down Masterlist
Memories by Conan Gray
Moving forward was something you struggled with, especially after meeting the charming Jake Seresin. The moment you met him, you knew it was true love. You not only wanted him, but it was clear as day that he wanted you too. It started off with you catching his chestnut eyes fixated on you from across the room in your favorite place. The Hard Deck.
It swiftly went from catching him gazing at you to gaining the courage to approach you and ask you out. You played hard to get, and he played that game with such ease. He won. It was instant from there. The first date went wonderfully and you both not only expressed your love for each other, but ended the night with a beautiful kiss.
He was hooked and so were you. One month of constant laughs, tears, and intimacy created a delightful relationship. Well, as you've been taught growing up, all good things must come to an end. You went into the relationship not expecting it to end, but it seemed that Jake had other thoughts.
You had to admit, communication was something that your relationship lacked. Mainly because there would be days when you two would be at The Hard Deck and other women would be gawking at your boyfriend. Of course, you had full trust in Jake. You knew he loved you and he knew you loved him.
The hard part wasn't having the women spotlight Jake, but it was when men aimed their attention at you. Jake got jealous real quick. He got protective which would often lead to his egotistical attitude to create unnecessary drama.
There were some nights where you would fall asleep in his arms, but no words to say to him. You thought if you didn't mention it, Jake wouldn't explode like he typically did. Sometimes you had to convince yourself that your relationship wasn't perfect, but there was always that one part of you that wished it stayed as perfect as it could be.
The day after your one-month anniversary, you woke up with no sign of Jake Seresin. No goodbye. No note. Nothing. He had left you. You knew his call sign was Hangman, but you never expected that you would be the victim of being hung out to dry. Days and days went by full of tears, screaming, pain, agony, and feelings of complete betrayal.
Everything that reminded you of Jake, you either burned it or threw it out. Jake clearly was done with you, so you were done with him. Your rose glasses were off and your heart was locked. You were done with love. You hated to love. You felt mocked after your quote unquote break-up because you would see couples everywhere you went.
You saw it as a tender mercy to show you what you could have. It was odd. Jake made you love being in love. He was as magical as it could get in a romance film. It made sense as to why you felt like your whole entire world burnt down and got destroyed because that's what Jake was to you. He was your whole world and when he left, your whole world fell apart.
Dates came easy after your confidence was rebuilt. Men saw your seeking of love and craved it. You stole hearts left and right. It was a great distraction from all the heartbreak. You learned that it was better to leave before you got left. You never wanted to experience that ever again.
After a while of living your best life, a good friend of yours, Pete Mitchell, invited you to an activity. You asked him what the activity was going to be, but he claimed that he wasn't going to reveal it unless you showed up. You took that as more of an order for you to attend rather than an invitation.
The meeting place was going to be The Hard Deck. Once you heard that The Hard Deck was the meeting place, you hesitated. You've had way too many good memories created there, especially memories with Jake Seresin. You tried to brush away those thoughts as you parked your car.
You hadn't seen Jake in a year. It was plenty of time to move on. You didn't love him anymore. You were over him. Plus, there was no way that he would have known Pete. You shook out those silly thoughts as you entered the building. The moment you walked in, you were immediately engulfed by the arms of Pete Mitchell.
"[Y/N]!!!" Pete shouted, unknowingly crushing your body as he hugged you even tighter. You had to repeatedly hit him to get the point across that he was hugging too tight. He released the hug, but kept his hands on your shoulders, piercing his eyes into yours. "You've grown so much."
You smirked. "It's been a while Pete."
Pete smiled and then perked up as if he remembered something. He started patting all around his outfit and took out a slip of paper. He handed you the piece of paper.
"This number is going to be the car you'll be driving in." Pete instructed. You unfolded the paper. The number was seven. You looked back up at Pete who was smiling widely. "I'm excited."
Pete didn't say another word and left to continue handing out pieces of paper to others.
"As I live and breath," An all too familiar voice said from behind you. His voice echoed through your mind, as well as a thousand memories that were re-discovered from a simple voice. "[Y/N]?'
You slowly turned around, only to meet the gorgeous golden eyes of the man who stole your heart, broke your heart, and stomped on it multiple times. Jake Seresin.
"You've got to be shittin' me," You muttered. As you lowered your gaze from him, your eyes caught hold of the piece of paper he was holding. The number was crystal clear to your vision. Your heart dropped as you saw that his number was identical to your number. A small chuckle released from your lips. "I hate my life."
